Chapter 7

Everything was perfect after that; I and Brian hung out and got closer. I would help my sister with her problem and help with anything that made her stressed. My life was great; and then suddenly, everything went to hell.

"Hey, Jay."

"Hey, Valentine."

"Dude, why."

"Because you freak out."

"Also, happy birthday." I handed him a hand-drawn picture of us.

"Whoa! You drew this?"

I nodded and grabbed chocolates for us to share.

"My sister made this; she'd thought she should give us both a valentine. There's caramel for you and dark chocolate for me."

"Sweet!"

We ended up skipping and ate the chocolates on the roof of the school. Valentine's Day was never really my thing because I didn't get much love and attention; besides my sister and not to mention I'd rather spend time with Brian. I know that if I'd give him a gift; especially on today of all days. He'd probably think it was just a regular gift and nothing more. I mean, the picture was a birthday gift, but even if I gave him everything; Brian still wouldn't understand how I felt. It was actually pretty nice hanging out all day; we just talked. After school, I dropped by Brian's place and I was destroyed…

"Brian…?" I walked in on him kissing a girl with chestnut hair. He never told me he had a girlfriend; I knew he was straight, but I was still hopeful.

"Mark?!" He looked very shocked and confused. I pulled him outside and talked to him.

"Why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend?"

"Sorry, she caught me off guard. I didn't expect her to come by."

"Who is she?"

"Her name is Charyl. I met her over Spring Break…"

He met her over Spring Break...I couldn't believe my ears; my best friend had a girlfriend, I mean...I was happy for him but mostly angry. He was so happy and I didn't want to ruin it.

"Think you can get along with her?"

"Sure...as long as we can still hangout."

He gave me a big hug and went back inside.

"Mark?"

"Yeah?"

"You wanna hang out with us?"

"Nah, go be alone with your girlfriend. You deserve it."

"Alright." He closed the door and I went back home.

"Mark? What are you doing home so early; I thought you and Brian would be playing video games and watching anime by now?"

"Heh." I made a soft small smile.

"You okay?"

"I'm fine." I went to my room.

Why wouldn't he tell me he had a girlfriend? The thought replayed through my mind all night. I didn't understand.
