Chapter: A Conversation

The cell gate rumbled as Sergeant Duncan pulled it to a close. The keys clattered and the lock snapped shut. Zane was brought to the underground base where he and the other accused had been placed in cells.

Zane sat silently on a small, soft white bed as he watched Duncan do his job. Sergeant Duncan was afraid of meeting Zane's gaze. This was for two main reasons;

1. He did not know if Zane was just playing helpless. If this was the case, nothing was stopping Zane from catching him in hypnosis— since he was not aware of whether or not Zane had the ability.

2. He could not bear to look at Zane due to how he was feeling. He felt as if he had betrayed the trust of Layla and everyone else with whom he had partnered with. The shame he felt made him feel too embarrassed to look at Zane.

"Duncan, was it?" Suddenly asked Zane in a neutral tone.

"Yes... That's right..." Replied Duncan timidly— who still avoided eye contact.
