Nathan let his mind go through memories of her. The nights she had come to his dorm room to study, the nights he'd adored her body and ensured she knew she was loved, the night he'd told her about his kind...his mind settled on that memory and began to play it back.
*Start of Flashback*
"So...Thank you for coming to the cabin with me. It means a lot to me that you decided to spend the first weekend of winter break with me." Nathan's dark hair was still damp from his shower.
She sat on the rocking chair near the fire. She looked up at him and smiled. She was wearing a hunter green cashmere sweater over a black polo neck and dark blue leggings. Her feet were covered by socks and in cute pink fuzzy slippers.
Her smile made his heart skip a beat. He sat on the shaggy rug at her feet. His dark blue sweatshirt matched his eyes perfectly. He hoped she wouldn't freak out and he hoped she would still want to be with him.
They had been dating for months now. He wanted to claim her as his own but he had wanted her to get to know him. She had been dating him exclusively for a while now but he wanted her to be sure that this was it for her.
It had been so hard not acting on basic instinct and making sure no one ever looked at her wrong again. He wanted so badly to make her his in every sense of the word but he was certain the waiting would be worth it. He cleared his throat.
She looked down at him. "Oh, God. If this is where you tell me you're gay I will kill you."
Nathan frowned. 'She thought he was gay? He had taken being a gentleman too far.' He shook his head.
She looked guilty and sighed. "Look, if you are gay. It's okay. I am not homophobic."
Kneeling so that they were almost face to face Nathan put his hand on the back of her neck and pulled her toward him. He kissed her lower lip. She whimpered. That sound spurred him on.
He ran the tip of his tongue over the same lip. She sighed. Her sigh sent a sensual jolt through his nerves that pooled in his groin.
He angled her head so he could get closer. Her hands were on his shoulders and her arms were shaking. Her tongue ran lightly between his lips as he pressed his lips against hers firmly. He groaned as their tongues connected. She slid off the chair as if she was boneless.
His arms pulled her closer. She let him explore her lips, mouth and made little noises that drove him crazy. She tasted so good. Every touch seemed to electrify his nerves.
Every moan turned him on even more. Her hands in his hair and the way she pressed against him made him want to take her now. Her hips undulated in a way that had him happy and crazy at the same time.
After what felt like seconds and forever all at once he broke the kiss. He knew that if they continued he would strip her on the rug and...he couldn't even think about it without the ache intensifying throughout his body. He kissed her cheek and forehead.
"I hope that shows you how where my sexual orientation lies." His voice rumbled in his chest and a shiver ran through her body. He wanted to smirk. He looked down at her face. For several seconds her eyes stayed closed. Then they opened lazily. The desire there almost undid his restraint.
"As long as you don't kiss another man like that I can guarantee you are sexually attracted to women."
"Trust me. When I look at men, all I see are bodies and potential rivals. When I look at you..." He looked out the window and let out a heavy sigh. He looked into her eyes. "All I want is to make love to every inch of you."
Her eyes widened. "Oh." He heard silence before her heart resumed beating just a little faster. He wanted to trace her lips with his finger and watch his finger touch her teeth. His pupils dilated as he imagined his finger disappearing past her lips into her warm moist mouth.
Nathan bit his lower lip. "You're right though. There is something I need to talk to you about." He put her back on the rocking chair. Her hair was messy now. She looked like she had been thoroughly kissed. If he had his way she would look very thoroughly- the concern on her face snapped him out of his lustful thoughts.
He held her hands. "Firstly, I have been in love with you since I saw you leave church four months ago. I don't see myself with anyone except you for as long as I breathe." He looked up at her. She smiled and her hand came up to his face and stroked his left cheek.
"I don't want to be with anyone except for you either." Her voice eased the tension in his body a little.
"Thank God. I have been a hair's width away from killing some of the guys who have been hitting on you including that friend who trails you to church every Sunday." He closed his eyes for a second. He looked at her again.
"But?"
"But I am not your average guy."
She snorted. "I already know you're a genius. Mr-I-have-seven-degrees-and-I-am-not-yet-thirty."
He blushed. "This is a bit more serious. I am a werewolf."
She laughed. Out loud. Very loudly. When she saw he was still serious she raised an eyebrow. "Really? Like Twilight or whatever that book series?"
"Not exactly, I can moderate my wolf size and there's no mental difference between my wolf form and my human form. We share the same name. I tend to be more aggressive in wolf form but not much more different than I am now." He looked at her, she didn't quite believe him.
"You know I am scared of dogs right?"
He grinned, "Yeah but I am not a dog. I am a wolf. Much sexier."
"Okay, Wolfie. What else do you have to tell me?"
"You don't even believe me." He frowned. Looking at the rug he sighed. Her hand tilted his chin up. She kissed him on the lips.
"Wolfie...I don't even read werewolf stories. If you are one then, I am okay with that as long as you don't decide to go all Cujo on me. One day you can show me. Okay?"
She was telling the truth. He could tell. She didn't care...well at least she wasn't freaking out, yet.
He might as well just tell her everything now. He'd be able to tell when she reached her information threshold. He sighed.
She looked at him in surprise. "There's more?" He nodded. His eyes watched her carefully.
"I'm from a very special line of wolves. There are those considered to be from the oldest families of my kind. My father's people are from Africa."
She raised an eyebrow. She was getting irritated now. He continued to talk, "I know with blue eyes and Caucasian looks I don't look it. Folklore has it that each continent had its protectors and those who meted out justice were the guardians of the continent. When slavery hit its peak it was decided that all help needed would be sent to the United States.
"My ancestors were among those who were sent. We've been here since. Our familial gift is the Tongues of Man. I can talk to anyone in their language as can anyone with my family's blood. Unlike the tales of today, it was a blessing to be chosen to protect the earth." He smiled. "It's one of the reasons I decided to be part of the police force to give strength to the Law and ensure Justice is sought and met."
"Saka, pese apa ndaigona kutaura zvangu (SO all this time I could have spoken to you in Shona)?" She asked
"Ndithu, ukhoza kuyankula ndine (Truly you can speak to me)." He replied in her mother tongue.
Her mouth hung open in shock. Then she grinned. "Okay Boy Wonder, what else can you do?"
He smiled, she was taking this very well. He hoped that this wouldn't backfire on him. Some people just couldn't handle the truth.
*End of Flasback*
In the end, she had taken everything he had told her about him very well. So well that he had woken up with her in his bed; although he hadn't made love to her that night, he had been content knowing she hadn't rejected him. He was grateful that he had been her first. He was determined to be her last.
He would make up for the loss in time. Just one more year...He looked at the clock across from the bed. The nurses would come prep him for the surgery.
He needed to make sure Billy would be safe at all times. He had put a team on 24-hour watch over him but the boy would need to know how to defend himself. He knew just the person to train his nephew. He picked up his phone and dialed.
