The Slight Pain

Arsh's took a few steps back in fear as the wolf slowly stepped out of the darkness. It was bigger than he imagined. He was feeling like an insect in front of the animal.

He slowly pointed the spear at the wolf with shaky legs and arms. He had to think of something to defeat the animal or at least, get out of there safely.

The villagers all came out of the bushes with the weapons in their hands. They all were scared as well.

The creature was drooling from its mouth, the deadly fangs were visible which could rip apart their flesh and even chew the bones.

Before they could think of anything, it started taking a sprint towards the villagers. The villagers ran away showing their backs. Some of then even left their weapons.

"Run for your lives!" One of them shouted and disappeared.

It was a chance for Arsh and Rena to sneak away from there.

"We should get out of here," Arsh suggested to Rena while whispering.

Rena retorted, "Are we going to run away?"

Arsh was not liking how she was presenting it. "Our lives are more beneficial than two silver coins," He answered.

"It's just a wolf. You defeated an orc," She countered. While they were talking, the wolf turned and looked at them while drooling.

"I did it because of y…" He paused before finishing his sentence, making Rena stare at his face with a slight smile. "I mean… it was just a one time wonder," He added, awkwardly.

"Even if it was a one time wonder, you did defeat an orc. A lone wolf is nothing in front of an orc," She countered again, making him nod his head sideways before letting out a sigh.

"How are we going to defeat it then?" He asked.

"We will fight, of course," She replied and took her stance. She had a pair of daggers in her hands.

Arsh understood that this could be his last moments in this world. It hadn't much time since he arrived.

The wolf approached them with slow and steady steps while groaning and sshowing its fangs.

"Do you know how to fight with those daggers?" He asked as the creature approached them.

Rena replied, "No…" Arsh got his eyes widened as she was being a brave heart for no reason. If she had a death wish, she should have died alone. Why dragging him into this? "…but we just need to pierce its fatal organs."

Easier said than done. Arsh pointed his spear towards the wolf again. He didn't want to take the risk of fighting it, rather he would find an opening and take a run.

The wolf jumped at them with its mouth open. Arsh somehow blocked his teeth to reach his body from his spear. The wolf pushed him on the ground while holding his spear from its mouth.

"Arrgh…" It was continuously pushing Arsh on the ground. He knew that he must not let go of the spear or the wild dog would tear him apart.

"You creature!" Rena cried and stabbed its back from her dagger. It left Arsh's spear, turned to look at Rena and groaned. Rena was shaking in fear as well. She was taking back her steps as the animal was slowly approaching her.

Arsh stood up and thought about the possibilities of him killing the wolf and returning from there alive. He knew one thing, for sure, he wasn't going to return from their unscathed.

If it became too difficult for his life, he was willing to leave Rena and escape from there. Loss of one life is always better than the loss of two.

Rena was taking back her steps while starting into the blood-red eyes. As it was about to attack her, Arsh poked the spear in its back as well.

It squeaked which gave them the indication that he managed to hurt it. But it was even more dangerous now. It was wounded and blood lusted.

It jumped at Arsh with full force. He didn't have the spear as it was stuck in the wolf's back.

"Argh… Get off me, you filthy creature," He said, while holding its jaws from his arms. It was constantly trying to grab his beck but he was barely managing to stop it. It grabbed his shoulder with its teeth making him cry in pain. "Aaah!"

Rena had another dagger in her hand. It was her last chance to kill the creature and save Arsh.

"Aaaa…." She screamed while running towards the wolf. As she was about to stab it, her foot struck a stone in the way and she fell to the ground.

Arsh somehow pushed the creature aside, turned and took a sprint to save his life. He knew he won't be able to outrun the wolf but he had to run.

As the wolf turned to follow him, a stone struck its head. "You dog! I am your prey!"

It was Rena who shouted those words and three the stone to gain its attention. Arsh totally didn't expect it that she would put her life on the line to save him.

He stopped his steps as the wolf turned to her while groaning. Grr… She gulped as her feet stepped backwards.

Arsh had got the chance now. It was the perfect moment to escape from there. But for some reason, his feet were not moving. He couldn't understand what was happening. He could feel a slight pain in his chest as the wolf was slowly getting closer to Rena.

"Fuck it…" He muttered. He clenched his fist and gritted his teeth before turning and running away without looking back.

As she was stepping backwards, she fell on the ground as her feet again struck something. She slowly slid back while looking into the creature's eyes. She was trembling in fear.

Suddenly, the wolf opened its mouth and was about to jump at her, but…

"Flying axe thunder slash!!" A voice echoed in the silent grassy fields before an crushed open the wolf's skull.

Rena had her eyes closed when this happened. She was expecting to get devoured by the animal but opened her eyes when she heard the weird sentence.

"Arsh?" She blurted when she saw Arsh keeping his one foot on the wolf's head. An axe was stuck in its skull which belonged to the villagers who ran away. One of them must have dropped it.

She noticed that the blood was dripping down from the fingertips of his left hand. He was bitten by the wolf on his left shoulder earlier.

Rena stood up and hugged him tightly as he saved her again like a hero. Although, it was her who saved him this time.
