It was hard to breathe. Not because his furry head was on my chest, but most likely due to the poison running rampant through my system. Each breath was ragged and sounding as if my lungs were filled with liquid. Coughing hurt like hell but I couldn't stop it when the shallow breaths grew too clipped to handle.
At some point I had even curled my good arm around the wolf that had stretched out next to me. His heat was amazing, so hot that it was making me shiver from the cool night air that brushed the side he wasn't on. As I lay there, I drifted. Sometimes I was fairly sure I drifted off into deeper bouts of slumber because Alyx's tongue would drag me back into consciousness he lapped at my face and neck.
