Chapter 55

"Butterfly, we're here."

I woke up to Ms. Cat's voice. She held on to my hand as we got off the ship. It was a great chance to escape, but I didn't take it.

If I run, where am I supposed to go? Who will help me get back?

Maybe that's why people make a lot of friends. Besides companionship, knowing many people puts you at an advantage. It was for survival.

Unfortunately, I only had a few friends.

"Do you remember this place, Butterfly?" Ms. Cat asked.

"No," I answered bluntly.

I examined my surroundings. The docks were bustling with activity. The air smelled of the salty sea and freshly caught fish.

Busy people everywhere.

The port town had a hint of familiarity, but it wasn't something I fully recognized. Maybe I had been here before.

"You used to like coming here when you were younger," said Ms. Cat.

"I did?"

"You always begged your father to let you come here with the cooks. Finally, he allowed you to come here as long as I was with you."
