Chapter 55

Yacchan P.O.V. 1st Person

The teachers called for our attention as they gave us instructions for the courage test. "From here on you'll keep straight until you get to a restroom. You are prohibited to use it! Be careful though, because there is a ghost along the way. It seems difficult, but it will actually be very fast. After that we'll make a bonfire." Matsumura-sensei snarled at the students bursting into chatter, "This is important, so listen carefully! If someone gets lost on the path do not go and look for them! You will only get lost yourself. You must return immediately and tell me or the other teachers. If you feel like anything strange is happening please also come back immediately and tell us."

(y/n) didn't seem bothered in the slightest, but I was trembling. I glanced towards Yu who was talking happily with his friends, (y/n)'s pink haired senpai and that dark haired boy were fooling around, the blonde haired senpai near Itome was smirking at Itome, and then to Tamura-senpai who also looked nervous. So many people just were so confident though.

The first group started and I was growing uneasy. "Are you okay?" (y/n) asked me.

"Yeah, I'm just not feeling well. This is making my stomach hurt…" I furrowed my brows and stared at my feet.

"Scared? You know you've always got me." She grinned confidently.

I watched as Tamura slithered behind her. "Boo!" He exclaimed, clinging onto her waist. She flipped out, and I glared at the male. "That scare you or something? How childish," he chuckled.

"Oh, so toilet-senpai was the ghost?" I forced my best fake grin. Suddenly, I felt a lot braver standing up to him.

"Says the one afraid of ghosts, it looked like you were about to piss yourself a minute ago," he retorted. But a rustling in the bushes made him stop. "What's that?!"

I clung onto (y/n), my hands clinging onto the fabric of her shirt as I buried my face into the crook of her neck. "P-protect me!" I screeched. Even Tamura seemed to cling onto her.

But out of the bushes a cat crawled out, this time not Yuri. We both pulled away from the (h/c) haired girl and acted as if we hadn't been scared, but she couldn't stop laughing at us.

"Yacchan! (y/n)! Come on, Group E is leaving!" Toono shouted. His eyes widened, "Eh? Tamura-senpai? Aren't you in Group G? They left already."

The blue haired boy frowned, "I'll just go with Yuri's group."

"Is that even allowed?" (y/n) asked.

"Of course it is, you should come with," Tamura told her. I slammed my foot on top of his as he yelped in pain

"Whoops, sorry. But she is already going with me." I sent him a glare as I pulled the girl with me into the forest. But as we were walking I kept thinking of ways to escape this predicament, but I would just have to take it.

We talked to help make it less scary, but it felt like we all were nervous. Just when I'd convinced myself that nothing was wrong something jumped out behind me. I let out a screech, but it was just Konno-sensei with a white sheet over his head. Itome grabbed a hold of him, knuckling his face, "Kon-chan that's too much."

"Hit him harder, Itome!" Shikatani cheered to the side.

The teacher kept apologizing until they finally let him go.

We kept going down the trail, but I was still nervous. I reached out and grabbed (y/n)'s hand. I smiled nervously, "It's dark and dangerous, I just don't want you to get lost." She nodded, sending me a reassuring smile. Her small hands clutch tightly onto mine, so she was scared too? How did she hide it so well? But having her hand there, transferring those emotions to me, I felt so calm and safe.

She stumbled over some uneven rocks and I caught her in my arms, my hands accidentally grabbing a breast and her hip in a way not the most appropriate, "Sorry. Be careful." She didn't seem to care; she was so quiet. I screamed and panicked when I was scared, but she seemed to be the type that froze up and tried to pretend there wasn't a problem.

"For real?" Shikatani hissed. I glanced up to see the problem: it was starting to rain. "There might be a storm."

"What should we do?" (y/n) asked.

"It'll stop soon," Shikatani added, "Let's just keep going."

"No, let's go back. This could get worse," Itome interrupted. I was agreeing with him. I was ready for this nightmare to be over.

But as we started moving, I noticed Toono hadn't followed. I tugged (y/n) with me. "Toono, what's wrong?"

"Thunder…" he muttered. So he was afraid of thunder. A bolt of lightning hit one of the trees as we all jumped back.

"Careful, get away from the trees!" Shikatani shouted. But Toono stumbled.

(y/n) reached out and pulled him onto the path again but tripped and stumbled into the trees. And of course, I fell after her. Stumbling against the rocky mountain side before it all went black.
