She cannot

"Excuse me, do you know where the lady is who came with us few minutes ago for patient Mr. Richen Morley?" A teenager's frantic voice was heard in the hospital corridor.

"She left a minute or two ago with the officers, as they needed to talk about patient's accident."

"Can you please tell me which way she left?" Ray asked as the hospital had two exits opposite to each other.

"Sorry. I didn't notice." Receptionist shook her head and started working again.

Ray fumbled through his pockets to find his phone, he wasn't sure if he bought it in hurry. Finding his phone in his jacket pocket he visibly relaxed with a sigh 'Thank god I had it." He switched it on and searched for Miss Mary's contact and called.

The called was picked in 3 rings.

"Miss!!" Ray called out Miss Mary as soon as call was connected. "Miss where are you, I will come to you." He spoke without giving Miss Mary a chance to speak.

"You kid! Why don't you stay with others and wait for Richen's news?" Miss Mary said to stop him from getting into this messy stuff at police station. She didn't want a teenager to come at place where one could see thugs and other criminals in lockup or see families wailing complaining about there problems.

"Miss Richen is my friend, please tell me I will be there soon." Ray completely ignored the reasoning behind Miss Mary's words.

"*Sigh*. Come to the police station at Blaine street." She knew he won't listen. None of those 5 do if it's related to Richen, thus she didn't bother convincing him anymore.

"I will be there soon." He ran out of hospital to the nearest public cycle stand, picked one of cycle and made his way to the police station. The police station was nearest to street 63 so cycling all the way from hospital would be really tiring, but who knew how strong friendship between these 6 were to make him cycle continuously for 3km in such cold and windy evening.

He parked the bicycle in nearest public cycle stand to the police station and ran the rest. It took him 15 mins to reach police station from hospital. His face was flushed red and was panting heavily.

"*huff* *huff* Miss what happened, what did the officers say?" Ray asked Miss Mary as soon as he saw her.

"Let's go out and talk kid, I just completed the paperwork here." She hurriedly pushed Ray out of the station. She herself didn't want to stay at such a place how could she let a teen stay here. That's why she asked the officer to complete the procedure faster. Ray couldn't understand why Miss reacted in such a way but obliged and walked out.

"Miss did you got to know what happened with Richen?" This question was bugging all of them, all this time.

Miss Mary nodded her head slowly with a glum expression. " According to surveillance footage police acquired, the fault was clearly of the rich kid who was driving in high speed. He knocked Richen who was going to cross road. Because of high speed Richen was thrown quite far on the road. And the car sped all the way leaving Richen lying there on road. He didn't even bother to stop the car and check on the injured. Police is pressured to keep the case down and don't let victim or his close ones pursue the kid." Miss Mary told in once.

"And you just agreed?" Ray's anger could be heard clearly in his hoarse voice . He was gritting his teeth and his hands were clenched in fists, his body was visibly shaking after listening to her.

She shook her head 'I can understand how he must be feeling, I want to help that kid too. But how can people us with no power or money easily pursue someone with both.' "We can't do anything kid. The surgeries your friend is going through right now for staying alive are expensive. Neither you nor I have that much money, even if all you 5 as well as I add the money we have we cannot afford it. That kid's father is willing to pay Richen's hospital bill till the day he discharge only if we agree not to pursue his son anymore by any legal or illegal means. He has enough power to get the evidence tempered which is in police's hand." Miss Mary explained.

"What about the people who saw the accident. We have eye witnesses too." Ray still couldn't agree, even though he knew right now Richen's life was on stake.

Miss Mary sneered, "One who could temper with concrete evidence in hands of police, cannot take care of few eye witnesses with?"

Ray's eyes started getting tears, he was frustrated and angry he wanted to help his friend. But he couldn't, he just couldn't.

Miss Mary could only pat his back to comfort him.

Suddenly Ray lifted his head, his eyes had shine which was lost a few moments ago. "What about the person who called ambulance, someone must have done it. Or wouldn't Richen be...." He didn't continue his sentence but Miss Mary understood what he meant.

She shook her head in refusal. "She cannot."
