CHAPTER 2: KATE SHUT UP

On my way out to get some fresh air, too angry to even look where I was going.

I mistakenly bumped into someone. I was about to apologize, but when I looked forward I realized it was my sister. She wore a black sleeveless V-necked pencil dress. She looked rather amused.

"I take it you've met Sam." she smiled one of her mischievous smiles. I immediately knew she was up to something.

"You knew Sam was going to be here?" I asked her in annoyance.

"But of course sis, everyone knew Sam came back to manage his uncle's business but you." my mouth hung open in surprise at her statement.

"Mr. Caphas is that loathed man's uncle?" I asked with surprise evident in my voice. Kate looked even more amused than before.

"Of course. Only you would call Sam loathed. If I wasn't seeing someone I would totally go for Sam. Do you think I should dump my boyfriend for Sam?" my eyes widened at her statement. This girl surely is crazy.

"Kate shut up. You can't break up with your boyfriend for an idealization of Sam. I thought you said you loved him?"

What's actually going through her head right now, did she take drugs or something? I can't believe what she's saying to me right now.

She waved her hand in a dismissive gesture at my face.

"Yes I do but that doesn't make me blind, besides I've always had a crush on Sam and we sort of went out a few times. Well it wasn't a date date but I may have stolen a kiss."

Whoa I can't believe Kate has kept such a thing away from me for so long. I felt almost betrayed. It wasn't the fact that she kissed Sam at an early age that bothered me, but rather it was the fact that of all the people she could have kissed, she chose Sam. And as if that wasn't enough, she kept it away from me.

"You kissed my bully Sam? You knew how much I disliked him. How come you never told me this until now? I thought we told each other everything. I've told you practically everything, but I guess you couldn't extend the same cutesy towards me." I whisper yelled at her. I could see guilt written on her face, but I am so not letting her off the hook easy.

"Let's be honest here sis, Sam hardly bullied you. I wouldn't call it bullying when you retaliated to practically all of his pranks," she paused for a while, probably to study my already angry expression before she continued. "If you're reacting like this now imagine how you would have reacted then if I told you. And besides it was a onetime thing. After that Sam friend-zoned me completely. I blame you for that, he probably did not want to have anything to do with your sister."

I raised my eyebrows at her. I seriously could not believe what was coming out of her mouth right now.

"Do you even hear yourself talk right now," it was more of a statement than a question "I can't deal with you right now Kate."

I walked away from her immediately after saying that. I walked to into the main hall of the party. I talked with a few familiar business associates for a few minutes, before I decided to get some fresh air. I just wasn't feeling the party anymore. I really did need to get what Kate said off my mind.

I walked to the garden of the place where the party was held.

After spending a few minutes in the garden, I began to calm down. It was after I calmed down I noticed the beauty of the garden. The garden was very nice. Whoever designed this must have been gifted. The garden had some well tendered red and purple flowers that formed a Square. Inside the square of flowers, the ground was carpet grass and in the middle was a swing. To top it all up, it had sparkly lights hung above the swing.

I stayed there for about thirty minutes before finally deciding it was time to go.

I stood up and made my way back into the party, ready to go home. I grabbed the door leading outside.

"Jess!! Jess wait up." I turned around towards the source of the voice and saw Kate running towards me. I patiently waited for her to reach me.

"I'm so sorry about tonight, I was out of line. That crush ended a long time ago and I'm sorry I didn't tell you then, but right now I love Josh and that's that."

She seemed very sincere, I couldn't help but cave in and forgive her. Though Kate is my sister, I was glad to hear her say she loves Josh. He's really and nice guy and he deserves someone that can love him equally. I just hope Kate is the one for him.

Gradually I smiled and she came in for a hug.

After the hug I looked at her big pair of grey eyes. I wish I had grey eyes, unfortunately I got stuck with dad's brown eyes, not that I'm complaining.

"I'm going to stay at the hotel tonight. I have a lot of work to get done." My shoulders slumped at the thought of the amount of work I was going to be doing tonight.

Kate signed before nodding. She always disliked it when I stayed over at the hotel which was becoming more frequent over the last few months, especially with my cousin in the picture.

"Sure sis, see you later."

I pulled her in for another hug before I finally made my way out and left.

I got to my hotel room later than I predicted . I pinched the bridge of my nose when I discovered how much work I had left compared to the pile I've completed.

After some more hours of working, I finally decided to get some sleep at about 3am.
