Third entry

At this point I might as well convert this into a diary instead of book confessions. For now no one seems to know.

Anyway, it has been months since the incident with White Unicorn and there is nothing to indicate any potential problems. A representative of the Crimson Company sold the ship to the town that we turned into firewood. Nobody wants to use a cursed ship even if it would never happen again and we could use some actual ships. Though some lumberjacks were upset because they lost some income, but I am sure they will bounce back. Official investigation of the incident has found nothing and has been silently dropped. And that's about it really. Other than this incident becoming an inspiration for new scary stories to tell children to, the town has moved on. And at a perfect time.

As I speak, the colonial army under the command of Prince Arius has been sighted east of here with several weeks of march ahead of them. Many people are feeling some excitement because of it. The rumours of him clearing up the island seemed to have been confirmed so some think we should join up with Metzaca and become a proper colonial state for once. There are a lot of people who were here 20 years ago when the town was founded so they can finally feel they are part of the kingdom even though Prince is all that's left of it now.

Anyway some merchants, including my parents, have decided to take advantage of this and reorganized themselves into the official merchant guild. Some were reorganizing the trade in the region under our control, while others like my parents have decided to risk it and sell the merchandise in Metzaca. With that bandit clan being a shadow of their former selves the roads should be safe enough to travel.

Of course they are those who think we should remain independent and they are voicing their opinions loudly. I am the most concerned about those idiots from the garrison. From what I can see, they are planning to split the army in case the Prince decides to conquer us. I already have my doubts since most of our bows have been handed out to our hunters so we can't use our walls for cover. Seriously, if there is one thing we can scare people off, it's the threat of elven archery. I am also concerned they might be dumb enough to take over the governance of the city. We shall see what happens when the Prince arrives.

Remind me that I believe in my first instinct when it comes to idiots in uniform. It has only been a few days after I wrote the earlier part and I was proven wrong. The council has decided, or should I say forced to decide, to officially oppose the Prince and refuse any unification with Metzaca.

As I write this, Elfriede Arnile, commander of the City Guard, has ordered all nearby villages to evacuate to the town and to prepare for siege. Half of the army has been sent to protect the mine and it's surrounding area. If I saw it correctly, he sent the cavalry and mages away. So not only is he abandoning the walls since we don't have any ranged companies for the defence, but he isn't also having any mobility for the battle. What a complete idiot. At this point all I can do is pray for the lives of the men and women who are about to lose theirs. I just hope Prince won't retaliate on the innocent civilians for this. Though, depending on how the battle goes, the singing corpses of Sur Carys might make another appearance.
