Chapter 23 Tsuki

A fuzzy haze of blue-grey over my vision, pounding in my head, an ache all over my body; they were all familiar symptoms, and when I first started to climb up that steep slope from sleep, I almost slipped back down. I'd woken up from beatings with that same feeling too many times. It was almost comforting- something I was used to. A far cry from the shocking revelations and swirling mix of pain and betrayal of late.

My half-formed thoughts had me groaning softly, attempting to roll over only for blinding pain to shoot up my arm. I gasped myself awake, bolting upright with a strangled sound of panic and fear. Hands met my shoulders as I tried to get up, my feet swinging through thin air, and I was gently pushed back against the thin mattress I had been sleeping on.

"It's okay, Tsuki, calm down." A low voice hushed the words at me, and I obeyed without thinking, trusting the command without clearly recognizing the person who spoke.
