Leaving the Forest

As Alex walked back out of the cave with Winnie, he had to face something that made him very sad.

Most of this sadness was coming from his connection to his new pet. Alex looked down and saw Winnie nudging his mother's cold body with his snout not completely understanding what was happening. Alex looked into the bears sad eyes and he couldn't help but reach down and pet him.

As Alex bent down Winnie's nose twitched and he looked between Alex's pocket and the body of the bear confused. Alex realized that the cub probably recognized the smell of his mother coming from the beast crystal resting his pocket.

Once again, he pulled out the crystal from his pocket unaware if it would help or hurt Winnie's mental state. However, once it was withing his eyes Winnie immediately swallowed the crystal from Alex's hand.

"Ahh... Isn't kind of cannibalism or something" Alex said in disbelieve.

"Most animals instinctively consume crystals because it gives them energy and makes them stronger. In advanced animal races that comprehend what is going on they believe eating a family member's crystal after their death will make you closer to their spirit so it is a very ritualistic event." Lu explained.

"How do you know that Earth didn't have any of these crystals." Alex doubted what Lu was saying but it seemed to match with what was happening in front of him.

"Thats because these crystals are where magical energy is stored that's why when you find larger one's from more powerful foes, they give you more power. And I am a god, I have been around for a very long time, I wasn't always assigned to watch your backwater boring ass world." Lu said in anger.

Alex was shocked by everything he had learned; however, he didn't feel the heart wrenching sadness anymore and when he looked at his now slightly bigger cub, he saw it resting its forehead on his mother's before looking up to Alex.

The bear seemed to nod in acknowledgment telling Alex that he was ready to move on and started walking out of the cave before Alex had the opportunity to understand everything that was happening.

Alex sighed for what felt like the millionth time in his new life and said "Great now I have two people following me that don't listen to me before acting."

When the pair made it out of the cave, they continued moving to the southwest until night fall.

"What are we going to do I don't think I can carry that bear up the tree." Alex said while looking up before his eyes widened in shock. Winnie had already started climbing and only stopped when he found somewhere, he could rest.

Alex quickly followed him and gave him on of the last 5 crystals while petting his head and complimenting his intelligence. This made the bear feel really happy, which in turn left and impression on Alex's mind. "Wow I should praise you a lot in the future you take it much better then someone else I know."

"Ha like you have ever praised me. Go to bed so we can leave this stupid forest." Lu scoffed and Alex's comment about him. Alex did just that and quickly fell asleep.

When he woke up Alex felt Winnie's large body resting on his lap and felt content. The bear woke up and nuzzled his head against Alex before they both made their way down the tree. They continued on their journey out of the forest.

After another week of travel Alex had feed the rest of his incompatible crystals to Winnie. He had also discovered that the crystals work as food for the cub however, they did have to stop at a few streams to give the bear water. Alex had also taken this time to clean his clothes and take a drink even though it wasn't strictly needed.

Over this week they had defeated many slimes and even used Alex's spears and tactics to defeat groups of wolfs that came after the at night. Over this last week Winnie had shown the ability to completely decimate wolfs at the same level as him however he didn't have the ability to take many of them on at the same time yet.

Alex looked happily at the bear next to him that had been growing slightly after every crystal. The bear was deep black, came up to Alex's thighs, if he stood on his hind legs he would reach about four and a half feet, and always looked at Alex with round eyes and happiness in his heart.

Alex looked triumphantly ahead where he saw the trees start to get a little further apart before they turned into a vast plain as far as his eyes could see. He also saw the village he had been traveling to for the past few weeks.

The village had a thin wooden wall completely surrounding it apart from a small gate on the only flat part of the way. The gate was guarded by two armored men holding spears Infront of it and a guard in a tower behind the walls overlooking the plain.

Alex walked forward and finally took his first step outside of the forest.

(A/N I don't know if I ever explained this, I think it was pretty obvious but all of these notifications are ethereal and semitransparent screens that appear in Alex's vison. I also added some spaces between lines and the skills I forgot about so let me know what you think.)

"I wonder how powerful I am compared to most humans? Does everyone gain strength the same way I do? How powerful are the people of this world? So many questions, the only way I will get answers is going to that village so let's not waste any more time." Alex said while he made his advance towards the village.

"You think I should give you a mission to wipe out this town and start you down the path of becoming a villain that is hated everywhere around the world." Lu said in a joking voice

"That actually seems like something you would do because of how 'exciting' it would be but you don't have to give me any crazy quests. I am sure I will get into enough trouble without your help. If I go by any MC to ever exist in a novel with a story similar to mine, I am probably already pissing off the some of the most powerful people simply by minding my own business." Alex said sarcastically

Somewhere far far away from where the town near Alex there was a dark room with a rounded table and 14 men surrounding it.

"Everyone in this room felt the same thing. There is no way someone could have produced that amount of divine energy and survived that is probably why it disappeared so suddenly." An old man stood and spoke.

"Just because it went away doesn't mean the culprit is gone"

"Then why hasn't there been any other events or signals in the last few weeks."

"There is nothing in that part of the Great Forest that could require that much energy to defeat. It had to be a fight between two people that is why it was so strong"

"Why would not one but two people that were strong enough to accumulate enough divine energy to use even go to a place like that it would waste their time.

"Even if it was two people that energy far surpassed what any two people in this room could muster even if their attacks combined and exploded"

The room erupted in arguments with all of the elders, in different robes bearing beautiful and terrifying insignias, arguing over the subject of the conversation.

"ENOUGH" Suddenly the man in the center seat stood and released a terrifying aura that spread through the room and everyone retook their seats.

"As the nation closets to the Great Forest we have a definite leg up on anyone else in finding out what happened. If we get lucky no one from a different nation that was powerful enough to notice the surge of energy was nearby. As the 13 Great families and Sects of the Stulator kingdom I expect all of you to support the crown in finding the source. Remember to be friendly to any suspicious and powerful people from that area until we are sure the person is out of our kingdom. Dismissed"
