After the events of the last couple of days everyone including me wanted to spend the next few days resting and engaging in "non-life threatening activities" as Dismas put it. Everyone wanted to take it easy but I was still thinking about asking someone if they wanted to help me explore and possibly map out some of the other rooms in the building.
A cool draft caused me to stir and eventually wake up from my sleep as I lifted myself out of my newly formed bed. I took a deep breath and immediately stretched my very sore arms and legs resulting in multiple popping noises briefly filling the quiet room. "I have no idea what time it is but atleast the sleep was amazing." I brushed a few strands of hair from my eyes as I scanned the room looking to see if anyone else was awake.
< Your welcome for the clean up by the way you guys looked like you needed it and it didn't take much either. You'd be amazed at what you can do with little magic and a decent amount imagination. >
I checked the beds both Dismas and Reynauld were still fast asleep, the only one I didn't see was Audrey which did bode well given the current circumstance. "We were only here for one night, do you think someone could have followed us here or could it be that she just wandered off?" I rushed over to the door and found the wooden board we were using as a lock sitting on the floor. "At Least this means the door was open from the inside but why would she leave one of the only safe places in the building on her own no less?"
< Don't know, but she couldn't have gone too far seeing as this place contains her friends and a safe place to stay complete with food, water, and refuge from religious zealots. Then again she did mention something about being a graverobber so she could be pulling the jewelry off some random corpse as we speak. Like Reynauld said the lower regions of this place is riddled with reanimated bags of bones and coins which sounds like a virtual haven for someone who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty. >
"Do you honestly think she would go into possibly undead infested areas just for the chance of finding money?" I approached the door slowly picking up one of the hanging lights letting it shine through the darkness of the vacant hallway. Stepping over some small bits of rubble I began making my way down the corridor to my right. There weren't any nearby windows but the few beams of light I could see let me know that the sun was at least out.
< It's not just a chance, rich people love being buried with as many riches as they can fit in their silk-lined caskets. The idea of taking one's valuables with them to the afterlife can be very popular with wealthy people and judging by the decorum even as decrepit as it is we can probably assume the previous owners had their fair share and then some. >
"I guess I just don't see the appeal of digging through some random person's remains, I'm sure she has her reasons but the concept just doesn't sit well with me." I continued to walk through the halls letting the occasional chirping bird and rustling leaf act as a melody to walk to. "Since it's just the two of us do you mind explaining everything that's happened since we first left the withered forest. So much has happened in such a short time and I don't even know the full range of my abilities yet."
< I guess we're safe enough to talk but are you sure you're ready for the amount of exposition I'm about to figuratively shove down your throat, the explanation could be a bit boring. >
"I feel like I've been waiting long enough just tell me it'll make this journey so much easier."
< As I said when we first met, you were chosen to take the place of a deceased god and the "initiation" process was done once you absorbed a spark of divinity aka the leaf you ate. The spark gave you limited over things related to the godly gomain you rule over now it's your job to train your mind, body, and soul otherwise this body we're currently in will go poof. Remember that pain you felt before, the feeling is a lot like that except it won't just be your body getting destroyed. >
The memory of that moment sent a brief phantom pain to my chest, causing me to briefly lose my footing. This caused me to lose my grip on the lantern sending it clanging and rolling down the rest of the hall. "This isn't helping my current situation." As the light hit the walls I saw something I hadn't noticed when we first entered. To my right stood a statue of a hooded figure with feathered wings gripping a golden sword in both hands. It looked like it was made from the same dark stone that made up the rest of the building.
"Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't sleep in."
