Chapter 262

Across the table from Felix is Vanessa, but sitting next to her is Shen. In order to strike Vanessa, he knew incapacitating Shen was the first step. Escaping after would be a pain, and he could even be captured but to him, it was worth the risk.

The artifact on his finger began to glow as a spell circle began rotating in Felix's left hand, and the right was conjuring a dagger of magma to be hurled. As the spell circle was aiming toward Shen Lenora lifted her hand in his direction.

Lenora's head was still resting on the table, but the instant she raised her hand Felix froze. The spells forming in his hand dissipated, and his limbs began to contort. Felix slowly turned to the culprit as the pain intensified dropping him to a knee.

"Did you just try to hit big bro?" Lenora lifted her head from the table revealing her red eyes.

"Using b-blood magic on a member is forb..."

Lenora faded into mist rapidly kicking Felix in the chest as he flew back into the wall spewing blood. While walking forward the hood fell down revealing a young vampire with curly black hair, and scarlet magic in her palm. As her hand began to close the sound of bones crunching echoed in the hall followed by Felix's shrieks.

---

Long ago Lenora was a regular girl living on a small farm with her family. It was the dead of winter, and they were huddled together around the hearth as usual. While their bodies trembled together for warmth a dark figure broke through the boarded windows.

Being huddled under the furs made it difficult to discern the intruder, but Lenora's father assumed it was a bear reaching for his crossbow as a gurgling sound filled her ears. When looking over Lenora witnessed a hand impaled through her father's throat. There was a dark figure darting across the room as blood spewed into the air.

It was all over so quickly Lenora can't even remember their final moments together. The vampire who burst through her window was starving and in a feral state. By the time it got to Lenora the man regained his senses and noticed the trembling youth within arm's reach. Examining the hands drenched in her family's blood a sense of guilt sunk in.

If the vampire truly had compassion he would've escorted the girl to a nearby orphanage, and been on his way, but the man had wicked intentions. Examining the appearance of the child, and noticing a resemblance between the two he turned Lenora to be his own daughter.

There is one major flaw in this plan. A vampire who is turned by a bite can never age. Only those born through a union will have this trait, and it will cease before the body starts to decline. This was a flaw he was willing to overlook even if it meant hiding from the council's retaliation.

After being turned Lenora had an insatiable thirst that a lake couldn't quench. Every part of the body ached, but the worse pain was the loss of her family. Their bodies still laid at her feet, and have long grown cold. There would be no more nagging older brother or overbearing parents, and the man responsible was offering Lenora a trembling human her age.

The hunger was overbearing, and the loud thumping of the boy's heartbeat was only making it worse. Lenora lunged forward tearing the man apart and allowed the boy to escape to safety. She was still grieving over her family when faint lights began to gather at a distance.

On the way to the house was a mob, but thanks to her new senses Lenora managed to escape their capture. Leaving her family was the hardest thing Lenora ever had to do in her long life, and the hardships she faced had just begun.

After a century Lenora finally broke and was ready to be done with the cursed body. She found a nice hill to watch the sunrise. Both eager, and afraid of see the sun again a teen approached Lenora. After attempting to scare the observer away, and failing Lenora sat quietly at a distance pretending he didn't exist.

The boy next to Lenora began to talk to her, and there was no way to chase him away so she listened. He just convinced Lenora to find another way, but the sun was starting to rise. After rekindling the desire to live the sun racing across the hills was terrifying, but he comforted Lenora.

The boy was only sixteen, but he possessed an affinity for magic. Before the sun could reach them the chant finished, and a pair of beads went flying into the air. In that instant, the beads broke apart and sunk into the earth. Each bead began to glow creating a hut around them narrowly beating the sun.

That was the morning Lenora met Shen, and since then they have been inseparable friends. Shen's promise to never leave her alone led to him conquering mortality, and anyone attempting to hurt her family would receive no mercy.

"The tenets of the guild mean nothing to me in comparison to big bro." Lenora declared while aiming her claws at his throat.

Felix was stuck writhing on the ground in fear at the look on Lenora's face. This was a slacker who was always sleeping and never taking anything seriously. Regardless of these personal opinions, his body had an unbearable pain surging through it, and his garments have been soiled. The claws steadily drew closer to his neck till a trickle of crimson ran down his throat.

"I can handle it from here," Naki stated.

As Naki stepped forward to apprehend Felix the ruby eyes darted in her direction, and the look sent a chill down her spine halting Naki in place.

"I wasn't in any danger, but thank you for the concern," Shen told Lenora.

Upon hearing Shen's voice the hand lowered, and the expression went back to its playful nature. Lenora yawned as she walked back to the table while placing her hood up.

"Sorry Shen...I just need a few more minutes promise." Lenora muttered as she crawled under the table.

Lenora worked her way into the seat and resumed her snoring upon the table. Felix's limbs were damaged, but there was still a slight urge to resist. Naki ran her hand across the rings on her arm as the glyphs ignited, and the bands expanded. Three of them shot off her arm with lightning, fire, and wind being generated as they spun. The gold rings appeared above Felix as he attempted to support himself with the wall.

'Shit' Felix tried to roll to freedom.

The three rings shot into his side as Felix shrieked in pain, and they reappeared around his body. Felix was no bound in the three rings as his body was lifted to Naki's side floating next to her. She casually walked towards the door unbothered by his taunts.

"I'll take Felix to the dungeon, but I propose that Vanessa returns to her post in Eden," Naki told the circle.
