While I continued waiting for Ethan's response, he seemed to be lost in his thoughts. After a while he spoke up.
Ethan : "At the moment I am not sure if there is alternate way to get there apart from increasing your energy and protection level. Even if there is one, only the upper tribes lead may know of it . If with all the protection we get there, the chances of us finding a way for you to go back may not be that easy to find. You seemed to appear out of thin air"
Rachael: " Okay, looks like I have to look through the rituals you mentioned earlier. I will have a look but before that I'll learn how to use this Webopedia" I had no intention of continuing this conversation with Ethan any more and felt I had to put in more effort.
Ethan: " Sounds good. I have some work in another place and I may not come for the next 2 dia. There is enough Tropi to last for 2 dias. So I guess you should be able to manage"
From the context I understood "dia" meant day. After that Ethan stood up to leave, he picked up the bowl and the sticks to take it to wash. I told him to leave the bowl on the stool and that I may eat little more of the Trofi. I was actually not comfortable with him washing the bowl which I had used. This was one habit which was taught by my parents since Ray and I were kids, unless we were eating out. He quickly did a head wobble to say okay.
He then walked towards the kitchen and then towards the exit slowly closing the door behind him. I was relieved that I had enough time for the next 2 days and I planned to gather as much data as possible today . First I decided to check how many hours did make up 1 day.
I just sat there silently for 5 mins before slowly turning on the Webopedia and performed all the steps till I reached the instructions page. First things first. I had to clear the history. I slowly and carefully started going through the instructions page so as to not miss any details.
It clearly stated to go to the home page to clear the history. I also looked at how to navigate between windows. There seemed to be back and front arrows at the left bottom of the screen and not actually on the window and as obvious as it was, had to select the forward arrow to go to the back and back arrow to the next page. I felt like I had to unlearn everything and learn stuff again.
I then went to the search page , searched for home page and quickly looked around to see a protruded button out of the screen with the text "Clean Hist" written on it. Now that I was aware I was not on earth, I had to get used to weird things like a protruding button out of the screen. I gently placed my finger on it and as soon as I did it, I felt a cold sensation and then the button started glowing with a mild fluorescent green for few seconds and then it stopped . The screen flashed "Hist Cleared" and I was relieved. Now with the protruding button the challenge was how to go back. This was crazy.
I guess it must have been 10 mins since Ethan had left. I placed the fragile tab carefully on the cot allowing it to turn off on its own. I then pulled the phone out of my pocket to check the time. It showed 7:45 pm and I compared the time in the tab. It showed 1@@45 power. Now what is this new time ? I just felt like pulling all my hair out.
Some information like time was relevant for this place and I just had to remember it only till the time I am here. I planned to segregate the data into two parts.
One into temporary category where information specific to this planet like time and may be the usage of this tab which would not be of any use once I get out of this planet, would go in. And the other category I named it as Goal which will have information which I can use it during my journey to find Ray. I planned to feed the goal category details into my phone.
I saw the tab had turned off as expected. Although to reach the search window it took so many steps which I started feeling a little tedious, I finally decided to ask Ethan again on the instructions. That way he would think I was a dumb head. And may be he knew a faster way to get around using the tab.
Finally the search window was open and I searched for time format on this planet in earth language. The screen flashed the below.
60 pixcet = 1 pixcel | 60 secs = 1 min
55 pixcel = 1 power | 55 min = 1 hour
18 power = 1 dia | 18 hours = 1 day
30 dia = 1 mes | 30 days = 1 month
12 mes = 1 anos | 12 months = 1 year
I felt a little better seeing this as time on this planet was ahead of earth time. I pulled out my phone , turned it on, opened the calculator app and roughly did a quick calculation. There was 6.5 hours less in a day compared to 24 hours in a day on earth. It took me close to 30 mins to finally calculate that the year out here was short of 3.5 months on an average.
This calculation had exhausted my brain already and I concluded to only follow the time as per this planet just to keep track of Ethan. For the days and date I will still follow the earth date on the phone or else I may not know how many days I will be loosing. And as I hated calculations, I would take the effort of calculating only when it was absolutely required. So I closed the calculator app and checked the date it said " November 1, 2019". 2 weeks had just slipped by.
I was thinking if there a way that I could synch the mobile with this tab , so that I could perform search on mobile to avoid any risk of getting tracked. But i knew it was a silly thought at this moment, as even if there was a way to do that I had no time to research around it, and therefore I brushed the thought aside.
As I had planned to segregate the information into two category I wanted to make sure I captured every small information to eliminate any foul play. I sat down and started recalling every conversation I had , everything I had for food , all the inscriptions I had gone through in the last two weeks.
I remembered Ethan mentioning about the food required to enhance the running speed to get out of this forest. I should have asked him about the green noodles he cooked today. All these days he was giving me soupy food.
"Why did he change the food all of a sudden?"
He mentioned how he had cooked it but never told me what was it used for. I had not really given much attention to it but I did not remember him mentioning words like "run" or "energy"
I felt like a miserable fool as I had missed asking him. Going forward I should not miss any detail. The information may come handy any time. You never know.
"Holy crap now how would I figure what vegetable it is?"
The tab may help again. I was feeling tired but I just wanted to check this out before I end the day.
The tab screen had switched off again. I turned it on again and went back to the search window. This was becoming a pain but I had no choice.
Quickly I looked around for topics that would help me scan vegetables. This time around lady luck seemed to be smiling at me. The first topic on the display screen showed details on how the objects could be scanned and the information around the object will be displayed. I quickly memorised the steps.
Then went back to the home screen to quickly clear all the history. I had to make sure I cleared history after every search. This will be an important step which I noted should never be missed. Once I had cleared history I had no more patience left to check for instructions to go back from home page with the protruding button. I again allowed the tab to turn off on its own. I turned on the tab again and i again I repeated "Index" thrice again and the index screen popped up. I had intentionally done this to log history such that it would look to anyone who may me tracking that I would not have gone beyond index screen.
My body was slightly aching and I had fed enough data to my brain for one day. I planned to execute my next steps tomorrow. Now that I had 2 full Zon days for me, I did not have to worry about Ethan suddenly popping up. With this thought in mind, I laid down on the cot and within seconds I had passed out.
