Spotlight#82: Girls Have A Blog

Have you ever wanted to live the dream with your friend? If so, Sarah and Tara's Girls Have a Blog that will be the perfect WEBTOON for you!

Summary

Call destiny or coincidence, but former college students Sarah Bollinger and Tara Kurtzhals have decided to take the world by storm by trying to make their comic studio! The only problem is really what to write!?

Characters

Tara: Our one half of a whole. Tara is usually the most conscious and wary of the 2. She suffers a lot from anxiety and self-doubt despite her rather outspoken nature, but it also makes her the hardest worker of the 2.

Sarah: Tara's other half, Sarah, is the more calm and rational one. She is relatively more outgoing and low maintenance than Tara.

Overview

Once again, this is a slice of life and comedy, so I don't have the most to say, but I'll try to spice things up. Let me say first off that it's refreshing to have one of these duo comics feature best friends. Nothing against couples, just saying it's refreshing to see 2 friends live and try to tackle life together similar to Waffles and Pancakes. Girls Have a Blog features a style replicating Saturday morning comics with light red over tone mixed with deep blacks. With the stretched out features, black eyes, and curved proportions, we can often get some particularly memable faces.

The best description I have on the series is honestly that it feels comfy. From the characters to the low-energy stories, this webtoon really does feel like the adventures of 2 relatable characters trying to live their lives. Which means we can really create a lot of down to earth chapters. It's honestly really comforting to have 2 adults be just as clueless as we are in life. It also dosen't hurt we get to see them loop their friends into the fun as well.

Effectively this series has one message that I feel like we all need. You're doing okay, even when you think you're not some days. And I hope I can do a lot better to embody that message. Because no one knows your own worth better than you.

Epilogue

Overall, Girls Have a Blog is a bit of a throwback, but I think it's a fitting way to end Women's History Month. It's a webtoon I'm glad I turned back to, and I hope I can bring in more webtoons into the light as we keep going into 100. Who knows maybe their other project Knight and Beard might appear next?
