I went inside mom's house, and went to my old room with Hawaiian theme wallpaper and bedroom. I touched the coconut and palm trees sticker on my cupboard. I looked at the mirror in the middle of the room, and stared outside where the beach was. The window was wide open, and the white satin curtains ruffled with the wind. I had memories of my childhood here, when we went to the back yard and played hide and seek. There was a green bean bag beside my small white framed bed. I sat on the bean bag.
"You can stay as long as you wanted here, Jane," Mom said. "I'm going to prepare some lunch for both of us. Luckily, Ben is on a work trip for the last three days, so it's just me and you." She winked at me, and left the room. I knew where I took my flirtatious attitude from.
I looked around, and bounced on my bean bag, then I remembered Peter who I left on hold. I was worried of what he thought of me after dad kicked him out of the house earlier. He must have been mad, or disappointed. I felt my stomach twist, and tried to distract my self from thinking about Peter. I walked to the bookshelf I had stacked with books. fiction novels the one my mom and I picked together. Unlike, dad who usually picked business and finance books for my bookshelf back home. Reading them was super boring, but dad thought that if I learned enough about business, I would be accepted into his dream school, Harvard University. I was happy with his plan, because I would be hours away from him, and he won't be able to control my life when he's not around. By Peter and I would be far away from each other. Still, I wasn't sure if he would forgive me anyway.
I went to the living room, and turned on the TV to watch some movies. I saw mom at her small kitchen, cooking lunch. Frozen pizza. It wasn't as good as our chef's cooking, but it was enough for me to eat something, because I was starving. The smell of the pepperoni pizza reached to the living room.
I covered myself with the blanket on my mom's favorite couch, and chose a horror movie to forget about Peter. Mom brought the pizza in two different paper plates, and some juice. I gave her the other side of the blanket to cover up beside me, and eat together. I nibbled from the pizza, and watched a movie called The Dark Side of Suzanne Lee. It was part thriller and horror, which was our favorite genres of movies.
"So what happened back there with John?" She asked, with a full mouth.
"I met this guy, his name is Peter. We met after I went out of dad's office, then I gave him my number. He called me later and planned to visit me, so I dressed up and went from the back yard. Then the sprinkles worked while I was sneaking out. Peter saw me, and then I went back to the piano hall and dad told me he told Peter to never return again," I explained.
Mom sighed. "Oh, god, what have John done to you two?" She asked.
"It was a bad idea anyway. Peter should have never came," I said.
"Don't give in, that's what your dad always does. He tries to control everyone around him as he pleases," She said. "You need to stand up to him sometimes."
I rolled my eyes. "I can't wait to get accepted into Harvard," I said.
"Oh, and let my baby be away from me?" She asked.
"It's not like I would never visit you two," I explained.
"What about Peter?" She asked.
"I think it's over. He won't forgive me for what dad did," I said, and felt total sadness.
"You never know," She said, and smiled. "Why don't you call him?" She wrapped her arms around me, and felt her warmth.
"Somethings are meant to be broken," I said, and remembered mom who said this phrase after the divorce. She sighed, and looked shocked for a minute. My answer must have hurt her.
"I'm sorry, mom," I said. "But Peter might not give me another chance."
