Back Home

Despite how long the line looked, their turn came up surprisingly quickly. Zack was the first of them to get examined and searched since he was in front of everyone else. Two people in uniforms walked up to him and patted him down. One checked his upper body while the other did the lower. While searching Zack, a third person asked him questions such as his name, age, the reason for being in the building, etc. Every answer that Zack gave was written down.

The entire process was fairly fast and before Jean knew it, Zack had already finished being examined and the next person was called up. Samantha walked up and put her arms out. The two people who were in charge of searching gave her a surprised look as she was almost an entire head taller than the both of them. Samantha's turn was over fairly quickly as well and the next in line was her.

"Name?" the man asked as Jean stepped up to the plate.

"Jean Rella."

"Spell your last name for me please."

"R e l l a."

"Thank you. Also, please stick your arms out to your side."

"Oh sorry." Jean didn't realize that the other two were waiting for her to do that so that they could search her. She put her arms out as she was told and the two started patting her down.

While they were doing that, the man with the pen and paper continued asking questions. She answered all of them without any problem. After seeing that she had nothing on her, quite literally nothing as her dad took all her belongings home, they let her go. Jean was surprised that they didn't question why she didn't have anything on her at all other than her phone, but it was whatever.

Jean went over to Zack and Samantha who were waiting for her and everyone else a good distance from the laboratory. As she approached them, she saw that there were a lot of people around. The majority were spectators who were attracted by the sound and fire. There were also several crews consisting of cameramen and news reporters gathered around the vicinity of the building.

"Heya," Zack waved to Jean.

"Should we change locations?" Jean asked the two. The place was starting to get crowded, and if they continue staying here, sooner or later, reporters would come to them and question them about what was going on.

Samantha shrugged her shoulders. She didn't really care. Zack looked around and saw what was happening and agreed with Jean. "Yeah, I think we should probably go somewhere else. Reporters are flooding this place."

The three got up and went to a different location where there were fewer people. They chose someplace in the open where Jean's father could find them after he was done. The place they moved to was surprisingly close to the cafe they were at earlier this morning. It was unintentional but Jean took out her phone and looked at the time. The day was already a bit into the afternoon.

"Woah, what a mess." A familiar face walked up to the three and sat down next to them. It was the cafe owner. "Were you all in there when it happened?" he asked them.

"Yeah, we were," Zack answered him.

"Well, I'm not going to ask about what happened or what you all went through." The cafe owner got back up after sitting down for only a few seconds. "These things are starting to happen too frequently. I really wish they would stop, it's really harming my business. Well, not that I had much of one to begin with anyway considering that I have very few customers." The man sighed and started walking away but stopped after a few steps and turned back around.

"Oh, by the way, my friend that I told you all about this morning just arrived a couple of minutes ago. He's in the cafe right now, so if you still want to talk to him, just come whenever."

"Okay."

The man waved goodbye and walked back to his cafe.

"So, do we still want to go?" Zack asked the two after the man left.

"Sure, why not," said Samantha. She didn't let what just happened to change her mind abotu what she was going to do.

However, it was a different story for Jean. "I don't think I'm going anymore," she told the two. She was already tired to begin with and after running down all those flights of stairs and standing in line for so long, she barely had the energy to stand up anymore. She wanted to go home and rest. She didn't know how the other two weren't shaken at all after what they've just been through. She needed some time to calm down.

"Well that's understandable after what just happened," said Zack. "But we will be sure to tell anything interesting that happens."

"Okay, thank you." Jean saw her dad coming towards them and got up, almost falling back down due to how tired her legs were. She took a second to steady her balance and walked over to her dad.

"You still have the keys right?" he asked Jean.

"Yeah." She fished through her pocket and pulled out the keys that he gave her earlier. She had almost lost them when they fell out of her pocket earlier as they were going down the stairs. Luckily, Nick saw it and gave them back to her after they exited the building.

"Well, I guess I'm going home early today. Since you know..." Jean's father turned back to the burning building. "I can't exactly go back up there and continue working right now."

"Yea, I want to go home as well."

"Alright then, let's go."

Jean said goodbye to Zack and Samantha and headed back home with her father. Upon reaching home, the first thing she did was collapsed on her bed. She was all sweaty from all the moving she had to do today but she didn't care. She was far too tired to get back up and go take a shower. While laying on the bed, Jean turned her body to the side and noticed that the card Josh had given her and forgotten to take back was laying on her table.

Jean reached over and took the card and brought it to her face. She was going to have to return this to him when she saw him in school again. But that was assuming that they would see each other again after everything that happened. If he truly was the son of the president of I.C.E. then she doubted that he would still be at her school. It was very likely that he was taken back to where he was before he ran away for safety.

'What is he doing now anyway.' With everything that happened, Josh was definitely not having a good time. Jean wondered what he was up to right now.
