Chapter 21

Another week had passed since the "incident" in the woods, and so far, Lucas and Amay had managed to keep it a secret from his mother and Martha. Lucas focused mostly on his training and job while acting as if nothing happened in general. Yet, Lucas's mind couldn't allow him to get past it. The look on her face. The glow from her lips...As his mind began thinking about the incident, a sudden tap on his head brought him back to the moment. He zoned in to see his mom standing in front of him with two fingers out. She had a slightly worried look on her face.

"Are you alright, sweetheart? You seem kinda worried about something." Elizabeth said as her motherly instincts kicked in. "Is something bothering you?"

"No..not really...Just...well." Lucas said, trying to gather his thoughts as his mother looked on at him as he continued. "It's about Amay. I have so many questions about her, but I'm afraid to ask her them."

"What do you mean?" Elizabeth began to poke to get to the root of his problem.

"Well...For starters, the scar on her chest. How did she get that?" Lucas asked. He felt a little guilty for staring at Amay's chest, but he fully noticed it from the time she fought Martha, and it glowed.

"Oh, that one," Elizabeth said and looked down for a moment. "Sweetie. There's so much even I don't know. I also feel like it's not my place to tell you since it's a part of Amay herself." She said, knowing exactly what he wanted to know.

"Oh. Okay then. Does that mean I have to ask her myself then?" Lucas asked nervously.

"I'm afraid so," Elizabeth said, rubbing her son's head. "I really have to get you a haircut at some point." She said, noticing how long it had gotten to the point he had to put it in a small ponytail.

"Come on, mom. Focus." Lucas chuckling to himself as he playful moved her hand.

"Fine then. What other questions do you have, my grown young man." Elizabeth said, joining her son with a giggle.

Lucas paused for a moment as he could feel his heart pumping ever so slightly. As he scratched the back of his head, he took a deep breath. "So how old is Amay? I get trapped in the basement for a long time, but she acts like she knows something. Yet, she acts very childishly when it comes to certain things. You know what I mean?" Lucas said, trying not to draw any suspicion on him.

"Well, you have to look at it from two points. One time moves very differently in the Demi-Humans realm. Their aging is not like ours at all. Then you have to look at it from their point of view. Say someone was, I don't know, a thousand years old. Depending on who they were around, they could be treated as a teen or considered an adult. It all depends, honestly." Elizabeth said, trying to break it down.

"Before you say anything. Obvious children will be children, just like an adult is an adult, like an old person is an old person." Elizabeth added while waving her hand as she talked.

"Now for Amay. I honestly forgot her actual age. After so many wars and dealing with the different movements of time between this world and that, some things just get lost as it goes on." Elizabeth said with a shrug.

"Oh," Lucas said, trying to wrap his mind around it.

"However, if I were to place an age on her, it would honestly depend. If she was around when you were born and everything, she would have been close to my age, let's say late 20's to her early '30s or so. But since she hadn't changed since before she was imprisoned, I would say she's around your age at most." Elizabeth said, placing a finger on her lips before pointing to her son.

"Wait. Really?" Lucas said out loud but still confused. "How would that work?"

"Well, if she didn't get imprisoned and were still around, she would have been the outgoing aunt. You see how she is, now just imagine you growing up with her like that." Elizabeth said, giving her son a moment to think about it.

Lucas thought about it for a moment and thought how an outgoing blood-thirsty aunt would be kind of cool. "Okay. Not gonna lie, an Aunt Amay does sound cool, but very dangerous."

"Yup. But since she was imprisoned and hadn't mentally or really physically changed, she's still young. And since she doesn't know you, nor did you grow up with her, she's just that carefree girl that you know. While she's still my oldest and youngest friend." Elizabeth explained while agreeing with her son a little.

"Speaking of which. How did you two become friends?" Lucas said, wanting to learn more.

"Well, Back when I was....a teen...I came to their village wanting to know more about their clan for a job. I ran into a very young Amay, almost in her early pre-teens at most. One thing leads to another, and we were on the road traveling and going on multiple adventures." Elizabeth happily said, thinking about their adventure. She then went silent as she remembered all the fun things they did together.

Lucas soon noticed that his mother's smile became smaller. He could see the sadness in her eyes as she became lost in thought.

"Mom, are you-"

"Lucas, I made a lot of mistakes in my life...." She found herself saying be going silent again as a single tear formed in her eye. "Just don't make the same mistakes as I did, okay?"

Lucas could see that his question had hit a sensitive nerve in Elizabeth. He then went to his mom and hugged her. He could feel her arms wrap around him and felt her soft lips kissed the top of his head.

Elizabeth had always thought of Amay as her younger sister. They've done a lot of things together and were the best duo. Yet since that incident, Elizabeth found it hard to talk with Amay directly about everything, and the guilt made it hard for her to settle things. She didn't know if Amay felt the same way or not, but she, herself, was too afraid to ask.

"Lucas!! It's not working again!" Amay's voice rung out from the house as she was holding his gaming controller. She then paused when she noticed Lucas and Elizabeth were hugging. "Is everything alright?"

Lucas then let go of his mom as she wiped away her tears. He then let out a sigh before giving his mom a small smile. "I better go help her out. Will you be alright?"

"I'll be fine, sweetheart. We will call your training good for today. Thank you for that." Elizabeth said, clearing her throat and wiping her tears away. She gave her son a soft smile before tilting her head towards Amay. "You better go help her before she accidentally deletes your files again."

"Right. Thank you, mom." Lucas said before turning his attention to Amay. He then took off running towards the house as he began yelling at her. "What did you do THIS time!?"

"Nothing! Your game asked me to press the red button, and I did. And then the screen went black." Amay said defensively.

"Which red button?" Lucas already knew which one she was going to say.

"The big one, Obviously." She said, not liking his tone and how he asked the question.

As their voice trailed off, Elizabeth hears her phone began to buzz in her bra. When she took it out and saw who it was, a low growl left her mouth as she picked it up.

"Did you get in contact with them?" She immediately asked the person on the other side of the phone.

"Ouch, no hi or a how have you been?" A smooth yet rough voice said from the other side of the phone. "You're breaking my heart, again." He said, breaking into a rough chuckle.

"And next time, I will put 5 arrows in it and one-up your as, if you don't tell me what I want, Edward." Elizabeth nearly growled into the phone.

The man went silent on the other side of the phone. "I won't say anything until you apologize." The man said, trying to sound sad through his voice.

Like a drill!! You cheating fuck." Elizabeth said, feeling her anger rise.

"Okay. Okay. I'm only playing. Please calm down, my Silver Fox." Edward said, still chuckling at how mad she gets with him.

"I...I told you to stop calling me that." Elizabeth said, lowering her voice as her face slightly blushing from him calling her by the nickname he gave her.

Edward chuckled a little as he rolled his former wedding ring on the bar table as he waited for his whisky. He was a tall figure with short spike brown hair with thick sideburns and a well-trimmed goatee. He looked like an older version of Lucas if it wasn't for the facial hair and the green eyes. He had fingerless gloves and a black leather jacket with a square and compass on his back and shoulder.

As his drink came from a waitress with a dragon tattoo around her arm, he gave her a small wink as he took a sip of it. He then looked at the papers in front of him as he put the ring back up.

"Sad to say. There's nothing much on those three guys. They were some low-lives that goofed off and found work from very questionable people." Edward said, letting out a disappointed sigh. "I search every low-level area I could to find out about these fuckers, but nothing about the person that hired them came up."

He could hear Elizabeth let out a sigh as she was disappointed as well.

"This was a planned attack. They knew where I stayed and even knew when I was going to be gone. This couldn't have been a random encounter," She told him.

"I know. Please don't beat yourself up over it. This caught us both by surprise. I'm just glad you're partner was able to protect him. I owe her one." He said, taking a sip of his drink. "How is he doing, by the way?"

"He's doing really good with his training. We took a break for today, but I'm gonna teach him how to combine his magic with his fighting so he can defend himself better." Elizabeth happily explained to him.

"I'm telling you, if you teach him how to fight properly, it will go a lot better. "

"And I told you, he's not ready for that. Just...just not yet." Elizabeth defensively said before backing down.

"I know, Baby mama. You raised him damn well, so I'm not judging you now. He agreed as a softly smiling formed on his face. "So, How's my other one?"

Elizabeth giggled slightly. "Martha's fine. I have her running a mission for me. She should be on her way to the mountains now. Did you know that our son doesn't believe in Bigfoot just like you did?" Elizabeth said, informing him.

"Really?" Edward said, actually surprised, and it made him chuckle. "I guess he is my son. He's in for a wild awaking. Tell Martha I haven't forgotten about her gift as well." He said, seeing the waitress looking back at him and bending over the counter toward him. Her lips curved into a sedative smile as she waited for him to finish.

"I will," Elizabeth said before letting out a long sigh. "Thank you, Edward. I really do appreciate everything you do."

"Anytime. I will call you back if I find anything else. Also, I haven't forgotten about your other request. I just have to locate them." Edward said, feeling the woman playing with his hand. "Also, tell Lucas I will be around soon so we can spend time together."

"Will do. Bye, Edward." Elizabeth said in a soft sigh as she hung up the phone. "You're still a cheating piece of shit. But you are a good father." Elizabeth whispered as she looked back towards her house with a smile.
