What? A gloomy person like me likes doing sports? That is what you're probably thinking. Of course, I do sports, to be more precise, Electronic Sports, or E-sports for short, hehehehehe
I do actual sports from time to time, but it's just a run around the block, so it's not something to talk about.
I'm not only interested in competitive games, but also the casual kind, especially MMOs, since nothing can go wrong with having a second world to live in.
The online world is a nice place to escape from the harsh reality, meet new friends from all over the world, explore a fantasy world beyond anyone's imagination, or just a simple stress reliever, there's everything for everyone, and for every situation.
*Story time*
Back in junior high, right after me, and my mother made up with each other, the first thing I picked up was gaming, since everyone was talking about it, and have their eyes glued to their phone every day, so of course, I got curious.
I grabbed my phone, and let it downloaded a few games overnight, just so I can play with everyone back in school.... well, at least that's what I hoped for.
I played the game in class all day, but nobody came to talk to me for a week, so I decided to abandon that plan, and just download a game on my computer, then search for a friend online to play with from home.
But of course, nobody accepted my friend request, and so began my lonely journey in another world.
That is, until a fateful encounter with a certain group. When I was out exploring a high-level area, I noticed a distress signal on my map, usually it indicates that someone, or something is in trouble.
If someone dies in this game, they will drop all their equipment on the ground, and basically have to start over, or look for that fallen equipment, which of course, can be stolen by another player.
Once I arrived at the source of the distress signal, I scouted the situation from a safe distance, there I can see a party of 3, that consisted of a purple-haired elf using dual daggers, most likely to be a rogue, a human with armor, a shield, with hammer that seemed to be their tank, and lastly, a high elf using a bow that is lying on the ground.
The purple-haired elf, and the tank are trying their best to fend off what seemed to be a lesser dragon. All three of them had high-grade equipment, while their movements are clean, and coordinated, which indicates that they are an experienced player.
So, how did they get cornered by a mere lesser dragon? The dragon let out a deafening roar, stunning both players, and then prepared a fire breath. If they get hit by that, they are done for.
I rushed to the scene immediately, and using the ability of my class, which is a mystic sword master, I sacrificed my ice attribute sword to create an ice wall, to block the fire breath.
I looked back at both of them, "Are you two okay?" they got out of their stunned state, then stood up, and got beside me.
"Thanks, whoever you are, we would have been toast" says the tank, lifting his shield, ready for another round.
"Nice to know that you aren't a bad guy" added the purple-haired elf, while putting on the hood of her hoodie, and readying her daggers.
"So, care to explain how you all got this beat up by a lesser dragon?" I asked, curious about the situation.
"That is no ordinary lesser dragon, that dragon is a named monster" replied the tank, with a serious expression.
A named monster is a special type of monster that has a name, or title. They have significantly higher stats, compared to another monster, but their drop is also very rewarding.
"But not only that, this one has scars of war buff" the elf pointed at the dragon's severed tail.
When a monster received heavy damage, and survived a battle longer than 30 minutes, it will get a buff, called the scars of war. Which it will gain a massive increase in resistance, and boost in stats.
"We should run, and leave this to a subjugation party, the dragon is way out of our league" I said, readying a teleport item.
The elf then stopped me before I used the item, "We have fought the dragon for over 30 minutes, if we leave, nobody can defeat it" her eyes are the eyes of a warrior, ready to sacrifice all that she has.
"So, it's either we defeat it, or die trying huh?" I pulled out two swords from my inventory, "Be sure to keep up" I grinned at both of them.
"Leave the aggro to me" the tank smiled, like a battle-hungry beast.
"It's you who needs to keep up" the elf unleashed a skill called bloodlust, that enhanced her battle performance by a huge amount, at the cost of losing HP periodically, her eyes sharpened like that of a predator.
'These people are crazy' I thought to myself, but for some reason, I was absorbed in the atmosphere, because it has been a while since I was put in a difficult battle.
By the signal of the dragon's roar, the three of us dashed into the fray of battle.
The battle lasted for hours, with us at a disadvantage. The tank is tired, the elf is low on health, and I almost ran out of swords to work with.
The dragon stood tall with half of its HP still remaining. Once again it let out a deafening roar that stunned the three of us.
Not being able to move, we are ready to accept our defeat....
"Not on my watch!!!" an arrow of light flew past us, and exploded into a blinding light in front of the dragon's face, temporarily stunning it.
The high elf that was on the ground stood up using all of her strength, barely able to walk. She used a splash potion to remove our stun, "I refuse to die in a place like this, I will not accept defeat, we are going.... TO TAKE THAT THING DOWN!" barely standing straight, she mustered her strength, and readies her bow.
Touched by her will, the three of us stood up one more time, I pulled the sword that I've been saving for a raid boss, however it's better to use it here. The tank threw away his shield, and held his hammer with two hands, then used berserk skill.
While the purple-haired elf removed the hood of her robe, and once again used bloodlust, then imbued her daggers with dark flames.
It's our last stand, it's now or never, once again, by the signal of the dragon's roar for one last time, with all that we have, we rushed toward the dragon.
The tank dived in front of the dragon's face, and slammed his hammer on its head, then hit it again, making the dragon scream in pain.
The elf moved faster than the eyes can see, all that is visible are black flames flying around the dragon, leaving cuts, along with slashes all over the dragon's body, and ending it by slicing its neck.
It would have been better if she managed to cut its head clean off. I rushed, and stabbed my sword at the dragon's open neck, then unleashed the sword's full potential, which froze its entire body.
"NOW!!!" the three of us yelled toward the high elf that had been imbuing her arrows with magic.
She released the arrow, and it soars through the air, aiming straight for the dragon's heart.
The tank jumped, and hit the arrow, providing it with more force, while the purple-haired elf jumped, then flew with it, imbuing the said arrow with dark flames.
The arrow pierces the dragon's heart, and the purple-haired elf cuts its head clean off. The dragon's body exploded into beautiful light particles, and left a treasure chest on the ground.
Gasping for air as if we are about to collapse, we jumped into the air.
"VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!"
*End of story*
This turned into a fantasy real quick hahaha, it all happened in the game of course, but that's the beauty of a game. You can feel like you are in the game itself, and during tight situations, you can't help but feel like you are in a real battle for your life.
I want to explain my class as a mystic sword master though. It's powerful, yet it has a lot of niches, you are granted the ability to hold a lot of weapons in your inventory, but to be an impact in battle, you need to release your sword's full potential, like buffing, or unleashing a powerful attack, which after that, the sword will break.
Of course, we introduced ourselves after that, and even started our own guild.
But my point is that gaming isn't just ordinary gaming, like how other people view it. It teaches you teamwork, critical thinking, strategizing, helps you meet new people, and can earn you money too.
Gaming is not a waste of time, and nobody can change that, but of course, you can't completely ignore real life, 'cause both are equally important.
