Prince Lane, in the disguise of Namere was as usual, in his room shining with his everlasting glory, passing his day with his normal routine of reading a novel by his window sill.
This routine of his has been ongoing for the past days he has been in the Castle. He would wake up, get ready for the day, have a hearty breakfast in the dining room, and spend the rest of his day reading an old novel he got from the bookshelf in the hallway.
Since he has been here, the times he had seen the Alpha has been slim to none. The Alpha was never in the Castle which made his mission much harder than he expected it to be.
His sister, Tashina, came down here to kill the Alpha so if she planned to kill him, she must be somewhere near him but the Alpha is out of his sight, how was he going to complete the task at hand?
His worries grew bigger each day, both for his sister and for himself.
There has been a rumor that the Alpha has a secret lover that he goes to see every day and is neglecting the Pack's affairs, that, he heard from the maids.
He also heard that the Alpha had an incurable disease and he is spending his last days in seclusion. He heard that rumor from the werewolves in the Packhouse.
He didn't believe any of it because there were about seven more pieces of gossips about the sudden disappearance of the Alpha and they were merely assumptions and stories from people who had no better job to do.
He hadn't heard anything about a vampire entering the kingdom so he is happy to know that his sister is still hiding safely.
He heard sudden noise coming from outside and he looked up from his book as he furrowed his eyebrows, wondering what was going on.
He was about to ignore it and continue reading but the noise got too much for him to concentrate that he had to stand up and find out what was the cause of the commotion.
Namere got up and stepped out of his room. When he got to the hallway, he was surprised to find lots of werewolves in the hall, all murmuring as they waited for something.
Wanting to find out more, he stood and waited patiently with them.
The room suddenly went quiet and he looked up to see the Alpha standing before them, with his Beta behind him.
The Alpha said he had to talk with them so they all went out to the field to hear what he had to say.
Namere was about to go back to his room to complete his novel before he heard something that made him stop in his tracks.
'an injured vampire?'
His head rumbled with the information and a series of thoughts rushed through his head at once.
'A vampire? In the Castle? Is that Tashina? It should be Tashina, why is she injured? Did they hurt her?'
He slowly disappeared into the shadows as his questions were left with a mark he was about to unravel.
The first thing he did was to go back into the castle and he marched down the hallway, trying to keep his cool composure in bay.
He was quickly accompanied by another figure who grabbed his arm to stop him from walking further.
"Good evening, Mr. Namere" it was a maid from the castle, Nena or Neva, he doesn't really remember her name.
All he knew about her was that she smiled unnecessarily and wasn't shy to indicate her feelings towards him.
He has been trying his best to avoid her since the first time she came into his room when he was shirtless to call him for breakfast and instead of diverting her gaze from his naked upper body, she kept her eyes steady on his sculpted chest and hard abs.
"What is it?" he answered and made sure the irritation he felt passed through his tone effectively.
"Where are you headed to? Were you looking for me?" She batted her eyelashes excessively that he thought she had a seizure.
"I wasn't looking for you and where I am going to is none of your business" he gritted and turned to leave when a thought came through his mind.
"You work directly for the Alpha, right?" he asked and made sure to use a casual tone.
"Yes, I do" Her eyes lit up at his sweet tone and she visibly leaned in.
"The vampire that was brought here this evening, do you know where she is being kept?" he put his hands on his pocket and kept his face as nonchalant as he could.
"Oh, that despicable being, the Alpha kept her in his private chamber, although-" he was already walking down the hall after he got her location and didn't bother to listen to any more of the maid's gibberish.
When he got close to the Alpha's private chamber, he quickly hid behind the pillar when he saw the guards that were stationed there.
He clenched his fist as he couldn't go into the room with the guards out there.
He stood behind the pillars for some minutes as he thought about how he was going to go in the room, unseen.
He checked his watch, the time was ten fifty-four pm, the changing of the guards is always at eleven pm so he was going to wait till they leave and quickly sneak in before the new guards got here.
At exactly eleven pm, the guards moved down the hallway and Namere rushed down to the room. As he was about to open the door, he heard the Alpha's voice and halted.
"What? No. What are you talking about? That wasn't it" The Alpha said and he seemed to be begging someone to hear him out.
"Then tell me, what was your agenda behind keeping me in the tower? I told you this morning what I was sent down here to do. I told you that I was ordered to kill the Alpha of this Pack, yet you still lied. You should have told me who the Alpha was-"
At that moment, Namere's heart leaped with joy at the voice of Tashina. The happiness spread from his face to his toes.
No words could describe how happy he felt to know that his sister was still alive and well. He knew that she would never give up on life so easily, he knew she would never betray his trust in her.
He couldn't wait to see her, hug her and also scold her for giving him the worst days of his life.
He staggered back when he felt a sharp tear in his mouth. He used his finger to wipe the wet surface and he found blood on his lips.
He then used his tongue to feel out his teeth and he noticed that his fang was growing out. He also checked his skin and it was returning to its normal pale color.
He quickly ran down the hall as his body slowly began to formulate back into a vampire.
He knew the medicine would wear off but he didn't know it was going to be this soon. He had to quickly take another dose, or else, his scent will evade the castle and the werewolves would be aware of his presence.
"There you are" the maid came from the hallway across and grabbed his arm.
"I've been looking for you," she said dramatically as she caressed his arm as though it was her pet.
He roughly escaped her grip and rushed down the hall and the stairs as he headed towards his room.
"Mr. Namere, are you alright? Why are you so tensed up?" she called from behind him.
He hunched down as his blood cells began to change and generate into a vampire's blood system.
"Oh my God, are you alright?" she rubbed his back but he shrugged her off him.
"What's this smell? That vampire has tainted the air, now you smell like a vampire too" she sniffed the air and remarked.
Namere couldn't handle it, he ran down the hall and banged the door in her face.
"That's the second time they've closed the door on me today" she stomped her feet and sauntered off with a pout.
Namere quickly rummaged through the drawers as he held his body up with great strength. He quickly gulped down the contents of the bottle and slipped down the wall.
The process of reverting to a werewolf was as severe as he remembered it but he endured it all with silence, not wanting to raise awareness.
When he felt his fangs finally slipping back into his tooth, his body was already exhausted from the formation and he was quick to fall asleep on the floor with his sister's bright smile on his mind.
