...
'Hearts.' Kyle answers monotonously while looking at the plaza.
"Strike." D answered similarly as Kyle.
'Ever.'
"Random."
'Money.'
"Yellow."
'Worry.'
"Ehh... Yggdrasil?"
'Hey, you broke the rules. You said that names do not count. Also, don't think that I missed that "eh..." of yours.' Kyle answered inwardly as he gave an angry look on D, who was sitting on his shoulder with a hopeless smile on his face.
"Don't forget. Yggdrasil is just another way people call the Tree of Life." D replied with an innocent expression, as he shrugged.
'Anyways, how long do we have to play this stupid word game? We've been waiting for over an hour and that guy has made no appearance yet.' Kyle complained inwardly with a dejected expression.
"Beats me. I'm not him to know of his appearance or his mannerisms. For all we could know, it could very well be some random cat from the alley that is licking itself, before it gets run over by a passing carriage." D answered with an indifferent expression, as he added:
"If you want to find him, why don't you just draw his attention with magic or something? You know dark magic and it's considered as one of the 4 different magic types, right? Why not show that you can use that?"
After he said that, Kyle's expression had suddenly turned thoughtful and serious and before long, he suddenly put his right hand in front of him and created a dark ball on it.
"I hope this plan of yours works, otherwise, expect to suffer you damned monster." Kyle muttered with an annoyed slightly embarrassed expression.
"Don't go blaming me for thinking this plan. If things don't work your way, then take matters into your own hands. Don't go waiting for something to happen. Also, that "monster" part was uncalled for." D retorted with an angry expression. After that, the two of them waited in absolute silence for a little bit over ten minutes, before someone suddenly stopped in front of them. The person though was a man in armor and spoke with cold and serious expression:
"Stop, right this instant. Unauthorized use of magic in public areas for prolonged periods of time is strictly forbidden and I may have to fine you or take you in for disciplinary action. Consider this your warning, young man."
After the guard gave his warning, he went on his own way and Kyle couldn't help but swallow his own saliva, as he slowly broke on a cold sweat and comment inwardly with an annoyed expression:
"If yOu WAnt To FinD hIm, WHy dON't you JUst dRaW hiS AtTEnTiOn wITh MaGIc oR SOmEThiNg? Yeah, primo advise, you jackass. Why don't you tell me next to go and commit murder while I'm at it?"
"Hey, I didn't expect for things to go that way. Besides, I haven't interacted with anything that isn't void-related, since forever. Don't expect me to know any of the laws of the world, since they never hindered me from doing my job, well aside from the law that forbids any unauthorized meddling of the worlds." D answered back seriously, as he crossed his arms and stared at him with a serious expression.
"Then why didn't you say anything?" Kyle asked back with a furious expression.
"Because it didn't cross my mind!" D answered back with an agitated voice.
"Then what crosses it?"
"Lot's of stuff. For example, not letting any world turn into a breeding ground or something."
"And not laws or common sense?"
"You should know that those things don't matter in the slightest for me, since I'm not considered alive, technically, so why should a dead man care about the law and all, when they aren't going to be affected at all by it? And besides..." At that moment, D started complaining and rambling non-stop and while doing so, he didn't notice that Kyle had stopped paying attention at him and was just looking at the plaza in front of him, with a rather tired expression.
It wasn't before long that someone decided to sit right next to Kyle and then asked him:
"Pretty beautiful day, isn't it?"
"I don't see any beauty in it though." Kyle answered with an uncaring expression towards the androgynous voice next to him, as he was looking at the clear sky over him. To him, anything that would normally make him feel relaxed or happy, wouldn't be able to do so anymore, especially ever since he had to experience one of the most gruesome and painful kind of death. He felt like he should be appreciating everything around him a lot more, but he had no one he could truly share it with and the one "person" he could share it with, was on a nagging session that seemed like would never end anytime soon. But he also felt there was something more that he couldn't put his finger on.
"Hmmm... No wonder, considering the fact that you probably earned the ability to use dark magic quite recently." They commented with a casual expression.
"Maybe it could be a factor, but I dou- WAIT, WHAT DID YOU SAY?" Kyle asked with a shocked expression, after he registered the sentence the person next to him just said, before giving a good look at them and what he saw left him speechless. A tall person with beautiful features, light, long, cyan hair and blue eyes was sitting right next to him and Kyle was left with his mouth agape by the person's beauty. He wasn't sure of that person's gender, due to their voice and features, but he was sure he could say that this person an unparalleled beauty, unlike anything he has ever seen before. It didn't take more than a whole minute before their beauty was registered that Kyle asked with an anxious voice:
"H-How did y-you... J-Just how...? I mean, I never even mentioned that, or maybe I was talking to myself? Uhhh... But-" Before he could continue, the person suddenly put their finger on Kyle's mouth and silencing him for a bit, before answering:
"Take deep breaths first. Deep breaths. Breath in slowly, then breath out slowly as well."
After they repeat that, Kyle started to slowly calm down and slowly regaining his cool, once again.
"Are you calm now?" The person asked with a soft and calm expression.
"Kind of. But I still have so many questions and-" Before Kyle could continue, the person put their finger once again on Kyle's mouth.
"I know you probably have many questions, but if you want any answers, you must enter into a contract with me." The person explained calmly, before they took a scroll from behind them and added:
"Read it first, before you impulsively sign it. You probably have a lot of questions, but you also have the appropriate exchange as well. You should know that there will be no turning back, once you sign it, understood?"
Kyle nodded silently and then took the scroll from their hands and started reading it. Surprisingly for him, he noticed that there were symbols that he was seeing for the first time, but he could somehow understand them, as if they were normal English that he has been reading for many years. The contract was pretty much a registration contract with a scholarship for a school, as well as post-school employment for a certain amount of time. More accurately, he would have to attend classes for a certain amount of time and graduate within that time and then work with an affiliated company of the school for a certain amount of time, as repayment for the tuition and the scholarship. The amount of time for the school and the work weren't written on the contract though and that made him apprehensive for signing it.
After he finished reading the contract, he understood a few things about it. First and foremost, is that without signing it, he wouldn't be getting any answers from this person, such as how they knew he had obtain the ability to use dark magic recently. Secondly, he doesn't know who this person is affiliated with, so it could be possible to be signing with a scammer or even with a criminal who could sell him away. And lastly, even if this person is a good person and is willing to uphold his end of the agreement, he is still going to be binding himself for, at least, a few years or more. As he was looking at the contract the person in front of him once again, he felt like everything around him was slowing down, before letters in the air had appeared in front of him:
'WILL YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT?'
'YES' 'NO'
