Wolverine x M!Reader ~The Fear I Know

(Y/N) POV

'I stood, with a small move of inpatients, as my mother yelled at me as my father smothered my baby sister with a pillow to shut her up. As she lay motionlessly in a blur, my father walked towards me with his belt in hand, giving a knife to my mother as they stood over at me with an evil aura surrounding them.'

I bolted up into a sitting position as I awoke from my nightmare, sweat rolling down my face. Checking the clock on my bedside table, I decided to go get breakfast as it was 6:00. I put on a pair of (f/c) sweatpants and an (f/c) hoodie before leaving my room to head for the kitchen. Logan sat at the table, his head in his hands as a beer stood next to him only half full.

"Morning, professor," I whispered, trying not to make him angry. He looked up at me, half-awake with huge dark circles under his eyes and a small barely noticeable smile.

"Morning, (y/n). How'd you sleep?" He lit a cigar, huffing out a small cloud of grey into view.

"Same as you." He raised his eyebrow, tabbing his chin in thought at what I had said. Shrugging, he pulled up a chair for me, watching as I sat down with my bagel for breakfast. We sat in silence as the clock ticked above the oven and movement came from upstairs as people started to awake and get ready for class.

"What do you have first thing?" he asked, taking my plate to the sink as he got rid of the beer bottle.

"English, are you teaching gym or history today?"

"Gym all morning but, I teach history at the end of the day." I hummed, twiddling my thumbs as I blushed ever so slightly; my crush for the short male was growing day by day. I never knew why he never said anything about my lack of powers as this was a school for mutants but, in all honesty, I was too afraid to use my powers as I don't want to make the others scared of me. "I'll see you later, (y/n)."

"Bye." I watched as he left, getting up myself and heading back to my room to get ready for the day. Kitty caught me in the hall, hugging me before walking to my room with me.

"So, you haven't said ANYTHING yet?" she asked, her eyes glimmered in wonder. I nodded, opening my door to see a kitten curled up in my bed.

"Tracey! You can't skip class again. Scott will kill you," I whined, watching as the cat transformed back into a short ten-year-old girl with golden hair.

"Aww! Fine!" she whined back at me while Kitty laughed at our strange way of interaction. I had found Tracey in a box by a café in town one day and brought her here to be safe, turns out she was a mutant and that she had decided I was like an older brother to her now. I can't complain though, it's nice to have a little sister again.

"I'll see you in class!" called Kitty as she ran after Tracey down the hall. Smiling, I grabbed all my things and head to class with a small warm spot in my heart.

~~~Time Skip~~~
Lunchtime rolled around and, as usual, I sat on a bench under a tree with a book in hand as Kitty, Tracey, and Colossus while they talked. The day was sunny for the kids here at the school so they could play outside.
"Are you even listening, (y/n)?" asked Tracey, annoyed at my lack of attention to the conversation I had no interest in.
"No, sorry. Should I have?" I mused, irritating her and watching as she huffed at me. As they continued talking again, I heard a twig snap in the bushed to our backs; curious, I placed my book down to investigate. A gloved hand reached out and pinned my neck to the cool grass, pointing a handgun at my head. The man was masked as were the rest of his buddies as they leapt from the bush to surround the school.
"Nobody move or I blow this kid's brains out!" yelled the man, squeezing my neck a little harder. I gasped for air, watching as my vision faded in and out, I reached my hands out in desperation.
"Leave him alone!" shouted Tracey as she ran at us. Another armed man shoved her back, sending her flying through the air for her only to be caught by Colossus. The Xmen rushed from the house, watching as I lay helpless on the ground; I couldn't hear another word after that point, my lungs burned for the air now. Small bangs and thuds could be heard as they seemed to start fighting, ushering the kids to go inside but that didn't work as they just stood by and watched.
"Alright, that's it!" screamed the man above me as he pulled the trigger. I roared, causing the world to stop around me. The man looked down at me in fear as I felt two sharp pains in my back; I watched him fly off of me through a red film over my (e/c) eyes. Standing with a mad grin on my face, I began to claw at the masked men, ripping them in half and throwing them across the lawn. Two large dragon-like claws had sprung out from my back, scales of a deep red and black covered my back and arms while my once (h/c) hair was now a blinding white.
"(Y/N)!" screamed a voice. I whipped my head around, thinking I saw another masked man to swipe at. I wheeled my claws back and dug them into the dirt just in front of him as he jumped back. We did this for a few minutes before he got in close to me, merely inches from my exposed chest as when my back was pierced, my shirt had been destroyed. I had him this time! I plunged my left claw into his chest, a warm liquid runs down my scales as I watched Logan's eyes appear before mine.
"No. No no no no no..." I realized it was Logan who had called to me. With my eyes clouded, I couldn't tell the good from the bad and ultimately ended up piercing him instead of a masked man, which it seemed I had already eradicated. I slowly removed my claw, holding onto him with my right before putting him down and backing away slowly with wide eyes.
"(Y/n), calm down," spoke Professor X, looking sympathetically at me. Taring my eyes from the bodies, horrified children looked back at me with tears streaming down a few faces. A gasp came from Logan as he healed, sitting up and shaking his head before looking back at me.
"I'm okay, put your claws away." His voice was stern yet understanding, standing up to approach my shaking form and embrace me into a hug as the others left to try and deal with this newfound information about the once 'normal' person they had all known before today. Tears fell from my (e/c) eyes like a waterfall onto Logan's torn shirt.
"I'm sorry," I breathed, my voice hoarse and shaky. Logan hummed, stroking my hair to calm me down as we sat beneath the tree.
"Don't apologize. This is who you are and I like it," he whispered, kissing my forehead. I looked up at him, a faint blush on my cheeks as I snuggled closer. "I know this fear you have, it's the same as mine. We'll get through this together, sound like a plan?" I nodded, falling asleep as my energy faded away.
