(Y/N) POV
The carriage ride was long and tedious; my butler, Pierce Wickes, sat across from me with his gaze out the window. I huffed as I rested my head back, dreading the events to come. My hands began to fiddle with the closest hem on my outing dress of green.
"Your Majesty, stop toying with the dress. It might come undone then what would you do?" Pierce grumbled, shaking his light purple locks gently. "Do you want to arrive in the nude?"
"It would make it for a much more entertaining entrance. I might even find a husband!" I teased, watching as he chuckled deeply. The ride continued on for a few more hours before a large and grand castle came into view; my breathing hitched in my throat.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Pierce hummed, staring longingly at the stone towers that touched the skies above. My butler is a wizard, much to my mother's dismay. I was drawn to his magic aura, picking him out of twenty potential butlers. He had told me stories of his time as a student, love in every word.
"Welcome home," I sighed, watching a deep red blush cross his freckled cheeks. Crossing the bridge, a group of people dressed in cloaks stood on the stairs of the front door. The two white horses, which I had named Holmes and Watson after one of my many books, came to a stop on the cobblestoned courtyard for us to get out of the ruby red carriage.
"Her Majesty, Queen (Y/N) Wells Holloway Beaumont Hinde Boartusk." Pierce recited each name smoothly and perfectly, stepping out first to help me out as well. The group bowed as my black heels hit the ground.
"My name is Albus Dumbledore, I thank you for coming at my request." An elderly gentleman spoke, his beard waggled with each word; it took all my concentration to not laugh. I nodded, waving a hand to let them stand up. "This is my staff; you'll meet them all once the students arrive in the great hall." Dumbledore motioned for us to enter the castle, the large doors opening effortlessly. I walked in tandem with the Headmaster, Pierce trailing behind with the other professors in light conversation.
"Headmaster, you called me for a reason. Shall we speak in private?" I mentioned quietly, glancing back at the people behind us.
"Ah, yes! My office shall do nicely, follow me, your Majesty." Weaving through the many halls, we arrived at a stone eagle with rounded wings. With a whisper to the statue, it began to twist towards the ceiling to reveal the stairs of stone. "Please leave the queen and me, we shall be in the great hall momentarily." The professors all nodded and left; something seemed off with a few of them. Pierce and I followed the bearded man, entering an office filled with trinkets and photos that seemed to move.
"Hasn't changed a bit," Pierce mumbled, standing behind me anxiously. Reaching back without the Headmaster noticing, I squeezed his hand in comfort as we walked to the chairs before the desk. "Here, let me, Headmaster."
"Why, thank you, Pierce. Welcome back," Albus warmly thanked. A grin appeared on my butler's face as he removed a wand from his suit coat pocket, waving it about to make the tea. "Now, if not to be rude, I called you here for a gut feeling I had."
"Explain?" I inquired, sipping the warm tea calmly.
"A professor here is not as she seems; she works for our Ministery and things might change. I would like you to be a... guard dog of sorts." Pierce stopped his advance as I raised my hand, letting the man in front of me continue his proposition. "Walkabout and report anything off, that's all I ask."
"Tis a strange request but, I'll be happy to help."
~~~~Time Skip~~~~
The great hall was grand and wondrous; the ceiling became the night sky as candles floated above our heads. At the very back sat a large table with many chairs, staff started to sit in the chairs as little creatures began to place food on the four tables in the hall.
"Beautiful, isn't it? Come, let's take a seat."
"Pierce, you said that the minute you saw this castle," I teased as we walked through the hall, "is that all you have to say?" Looking embarrassed, Pierce pulled out a chair for me next to the center one of royal stature. Albus appeared in the chair to my left, the center one, in a swirl of colours and a small smile on his face.
"Wickes, why not sit along with us?" Albus offered; with great regret, Pierce refused the offer and stood behind my chair. With a wave of the Headmaster's hand, the large doors once again opened as a giant group of people stormed in, heading to certain tables. Red and gold, black and yellow, blue and brown, and green and silver.
"Um, what's with the colour schemes?" I whispered back to Pierce.
"They are the houses, Majesty. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin." He matched tables to colours and names. "I was a Ravenclaw-"
"That explains a lot," I giggled. Albus must have heard as he chuckled lightly to my comment.
"An amazing one at that." You could practically feel the heat radiating from my butler's cheeks as he shuffled uncomfortably behind me while the Headmaster and I laughed quietly. As the students filed in, one caught my eye as he strode to the last table on my right. Platinum blond hair, pale skin, and pale blue eyes; a very handsome Slytherin it would seem. After the last bench was full of young people, Albus made his way to an owl stand and began a speech about the new year. "We have had two changes in staffing this year. We are very pleased to welcome back Professor Grubbly-Plank, who will be taking Care of Magical Creatures lessons; we are also delighted to introduce Professor Umbridge, our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Tryouts for the House Quidditch teams will take place on the —"
"Hem, hem." I looked around to spot a rather frog-looking woman in nothing but pink standing up to make her own speech. Her voice was shrill and girly as she thanked Albus and tried to make friends with the students looking as unimpressed as the rest of the professors along the table.
"That would be the change," Pierce whispered in my ear, hand gripping my shoulder protectively. "Be careful around her," he warned. I waved him back just as she finished speaking, looking at the Headmaster to see if he would continue his speech.
"Thank you, Professor Umbridge. Lastly, I would like to announce the arrival of Queen-" he ruffled through his notes on the stand, "(Y/N) Wells Holloway Beaumont Hinde Boartusk. Please show your utmost respect to her," Albus lectured, smiling as he saw the wonder on the kids' faces. I smiled sweetly and gave a small wave to the large crowd. With clapping reverberating off the walls, Albus let us eat the steaming food before us.
"This is delicious! Pierce, open!" I ordered, shoving a fork full of food towards him. His cheeks glowed happily as memories flooded back to him. "You are quite adorable, Wickes."
"As are you, Majesty." Dinner ended and we were shown to my room by a strange man named Filch and his cat. We arrived at a door of green marble; Pierce waved his wand and the door gracefully opened to a large satin bed and all my luggage already put away. "Thank you, Filch. Your help is greatly appreciated." The man grumbled as Pierce spoke and as he walked away with my door closing gently. Stretching, I flopped onto the bed and fell asleep in seconds flat to awaken the next morning to pancakes and tea at the ready.
"Alright. I'll be walking about so, have the large pink-green dress ready with (f/c) flats," I ordered, munching down on the food before me.
We travelled the halls quietly as to not disturb the students in class. Photos would move, stairs would move, ghosts floated about the air, and the students heeded Albus's words; polite bows and greetings were exchanged between us. Well, all except the Slytherin boy from the Great Hall that had caught my eye. He seemed defiant and like a bully to those he deemed lesser than himself; a Malfoy, as Pierce called him.
"Let's leave, Umbridge is coming this way." I nodded, picking up my pace with his.
"Leaving so soon, your Highness?" a voice taunted, earning a laugh from a group of boys. I turned to see the Malfoy speaking, his group behind him with sinister grins that tried too hard to be dominant. "Can't stand to be around us common folk?" Pierce went for his wand but I stepped in front of his defensive stance.
"No, I just can't stand to be around the lowest of the low." I smiled and turned to walk down the walkway, nodding at Umbridge as we passed by. These encounters happened frequently as the school spiralled into chaos; rule plaques appeared on the walls above our heads as we entered the Great Hall. A boy with round glasses and a strange mark on his forehead clenched his fists while looking up at the words and rules. "Horrid wallpaper. Such bad taste," I joked, earning a small laugh from the boy.
"Yeah, really bad." He turned to his left to meet my eyes, "Your Majesty!" he bowed politely. "Dumbledore needs to stop her. She won't even teach magic in her class." I watched as he grabbed his very scared hand. I must not tell lies.
"Your hand, are you alright?" I asked, holding it gently.
"It's from that woman. I'm Harry, by the way." I smiled, continuing to talk with him as I walked the halls once again. He warned me about everything going on with the castle, even a group of students who practiced defence magic without the frog lady knowing.
"Your Majesty. I have been summoned, please excuse me." Pierce apparated, leaving me and Harry alone in the hall. We went our separate ways and I was now alone in the quiet castle; my shoes patted along the floor as I made my way to the fields, sitting under an oak tree.
"Hey! What are YOU doing in my spot?" Malfoy's voice came from beside me, his face in an angry huff. "Shouldn't you be proper and in the castle where princesses are supposed to be?"
"First off, I'm a queen. Secondly, it's calming out here and away from all that," I vexed, pointing back at said castle to emphasize my point. His face turned red as he sat down in a moody way, arms crossed and furrowed brows. "Go ahead, join me," I mocked sarcastically. A small chuckled emitted from the Malfoy to my right, his head resting on the tree trunk.
"So, you're human too. Nice to know," he hummed. Confused, I turned to him and our lips met. Surprised, I jumped back a bit to understand the situation. "Sorry, thought I'd shoot my shot. Might never see you again and you are very pretty." A strange aura surrounded us, calm and warm; looking over at his eyes, they seemed genuine as he spoke. "Draco." He held out his hand.
"(y/n)." I went to shake his hand but was denied as he kissed my hand instead. "So, you can be nice." I copied his voice, making us both laugh as we sat beneath the tree. "We can stay in contact, you know. This doesn't have to be just under this lovely tree," I hummed, slowly letting my head find his shoulder to rest on.
"Yeah, I'd like that." I felt him kiss my head as a small breeze made the tree sway.
