Being a mother was a hard task, since it is my first time to reach motherhood.
But, thanks to the help of my neighbors, and some advice from other mothers, I was able to get through it. Whenever I was working, Ms. Rose was the person who volunteered to watch over my son. At first I was hesitant, but knowing her, I was grateful to her. That's why every time I go to work, I have fewer worries.
When my son turned five, he volunteered to assist me. I understand his intention to be with me so, I agree with it. I asked the owner if he can assist me, and she agreed.
Who could deny such a beautiful boy? As expected from a son of a duke. Jet-black hair, eyes as ruby, and skin as white as snow. He's so beautiful. I am so lucky to have him. But, because of this appearance, some people ridicule him saying that he's different.
And of course, every time someone speaks ill to him, I speak with them very nicely.
I always told my son about it, and he always told me that it's okay. Since the moment he turned three, I told him the truth about me not being his biological mother, and all. Except for the fact that he is the son of a duke. When I ask him if he doesn't like me anymore, he answered me this;
"Why will I hate you mama? You love me so much, and take good care of me in place of my dead mother. You taught me a lot, and I live happily. There is no reason for me to hate you," when he said that I cried, and embrace him, and thank him for that wonderful answer. He even calls me a crybaby even though I'm an adult. Since that day, we visit Irene grave once in a while.
Now nine years had passed since he was born, and Irene death.
In the original story, Dane would be in the street struggling with life, but he is now at my side living life joyfully. He grew up to be a charming boy, and a kind kid. He's far away from a gloomy character, and cold demeanor of his.
"Mama, wake up. It's morning. Mr. Sun is already in the sky," I heard a cute voice beside me while feeling the heat of the sun in my face. I slowly opened my eyes, and saw my cute son.
"Yeah, I already felt the energy of Mr. Sun telling me to wake up, and tickle the boy beside me, haha," I quickly sat up, and attack him with tickles.
"Mama, stop! It tickles," he shouted at me laughingly. I laughed at his reaction, and immediately stop tickling him, and kiss him in the cheek.
"Good morning, Dane," I greeted him. He smiled at me, and kisses me back on the cheek.
"Good morning too, Mama," we got up from bed, and he helps me fix the sheet. My son is an obedient child, and likes to help me a lot. If he continues to be like this, in the future he will be a good house worker, just kidding.
After that, we prepared our breakfast. Dane also knows how to cook. Whenever I'm busy, or sick, he cooks me some food. He's not only charming, but also a great gentleman. This is the result of my hard work raising him, and loving him.
"Mama, stop grinning. If others saw you like that, they may think you're crazy," he said as he eats his food.
"Let them think. I'm just admiring you my sweet boy."
"I bet you're thinking of how amazing I am, and how amazing the result of your effort through all these years raising me."
"Oh my… How did you know?"
"I know you through thick, and thin mother. It's already clear to me what you're thinking," he said as he swing his fork in the air, like a conductor reading a piece of sheet full of notes.
"My son is really smart. I'm so proud of you," I put down my spoon, and fork, and applaud him.
"Mama, you praise me very well. And besides, it's the result of your teaching. I know how to read, and write, and solve. The people here don't know how to read and write and even solve. But mama is different. I'm beginning to think that you're a runaway noble."
"I-I'm not. Just someone taught me when I was in the capital before," I lied. I'm sorry son, but I cannot tell you the truth that I just can read, and write, and for the solving, it's just common sense. Because I'm from another world. The technique that I'm using to teach you is from the school that I attended before.
"Alright, I was only joking mother," he drinks a cup of water, and picks up his plate. This son of mine, his attitude is another story. Did he pick it up from me? Or from others?
"Oh, mother, speaking of the capital, you said that we are going there later," he said as he cleans the table.
"Oh, yes. We already pack our luggage last night. The owner choose some people to follow her to the capital, and luckily I was also choosed by her. I don't want to leave you behind so, I asked her to let me bring you along. Since she saw your potential in working she approves it. And besides," I stand up, and went beside him, and embrace him sweetly.
"I don't want to leave you. I might die if I don't see you."
"I know mother. Even without that reason, I will still follow you."
"You're so sweet-"
"I'm worried that you might get into trouble, or you will be crying in the street mentioning my name over, and over again. Just thinking about it makes me embarrass."
"You are so mean, Dane," I let go of him, and crouch down sulking. I heard him chuckles, and stand in front of me. He crouched down, and cupped my cheek.
"I'm sorry mother. I'm just worried okay? I only care about you because you're the only family that I had," he explains as he looks at me with those ruby eyes.
"What would I do without you, Dane?" I hugged him, and he hugged me back. I'm so glad of having him as my son. I would protect him no matter what, and stop him from being a villain if I have to risk myself.
It was already noon when we leave the house that we spent for years. All the memories will be kept within our hearts forever.
"You are being emotional mother."
"I'm not," I quickly replied, and he laughed at my answer.
"Everyone, the carriage is here. Let us get going," Ms. Amanda announced.
Everyone was so excited also my son. I can see in his eyes that he is excited.
I quietly laugh, admiring his cute expression. I know the reason why he's like this.
First, he will be going to the great capital of the west, and secondly, where his father is. I only told him that his father is living in the west. And he was a great person. He asked me before if I knew his father. I said yes, but I told him that I will tell him who he is when I found the right time. My son was different from other kids. Other kids would throw tantrums, and ask for more, but he wasn't like that. He only answered yes, and when I asked him why he doesn't ask for more he said this:
"I know that you will tell me the truth someday. But, I understand why you don't want to mention him. He must be a person who is greater than us, and I can feel that you're scared of him, and lastly, you're worried that I will leave you. Is that right mother?" he asked as he looks at me. I embrace him tightly reassuring myself.
"Don't worry mother, I will not leave because I love you."
"Me too, Dane."
"You okay, mother?" I snapped out when I heard his voice.
"Of course, I'm presently excited, and nervous at the same time," I reassured him. He wraps his small arms around me, and leans his head on me. I just heave a sigh and embrace him back.
Once we enter the capital, everything will change. But, no matter what happened, I'll be there for my son, and protect him from the worst-case scenario.
