Adjusting

I packed up all of my belongings after Oliver had left last night.

What was I getting myself into? I asked myself and groaned.

I mean I wasn't going to be homeless but what if Oliver turned out to be some creep that just wanted to get me alone so he could use me....

No he wasn't like that...was he?

He seemed like a really amazing guy..

I could make this work. He offered to let me move in !! It's not like I asked him after our first date. It wasn't like we were actually moving in together and sharing a bed and everything. I'd have my own space and he'd have his. So basically we were roommates that happened to like each other. No biggie.

I sighed when I heard a knock at my door.

"Are you ready to go, Mrs. Hart?" A man asked me and I looked at him confused.

"Mr. Barker has asked me to pick you and your things up and bring you to his home while he is away on business." The man said and I nodded.

"Are you ready ma'am?" He asked and I nodded. He took my two suitcases from me and sat them in the trunk of the car that was waiting. He opened the backseat door and I cautiously got into the car. The man drove and I saw that we were actually heading to Olivers.

I sighed with relief as we pulled into the drive way

A woman was standing outside waiting with a smile.

"Ah Mrs. Raven lovely to meet you." She said as I stepped out of the car.

"Hi." I said shyly and watched the man that drove me take my suitcases inside.

"I am the housekeeper, Rayne." She said and I shook her hand.

"Mr. Barker will be back by tonight and asks for you to join him at dinner tonight." She said as she led me into the house.

"Thank you." I said and she smiled warmly. I felt myself relax at her smile and she showed me upstairs to my room that was right beside what I figured was the master bedroom

"If you need anything my room is downstairs." She told me and left me alone to settle into my new room.

It was simple and just how I liked it. After putting my belongings away and making the bed with my own comforter and pillows, I headed to the bathroom to put my toiletries away. I smiled wide at the jacuzzi sized bathtub. I casually decided to take a bath just to test the tub out. I got undressed quickly and climbed into the big tub as it filled up with hot soapy water. When it filled all the way up I turned the water off and relaxed.

"This is heaven." I moaned happily and lied against the tub wall enjoying the much needed bubble bath.

I didn't even realize I had fallen asleep.

"Raven, are you alright in there?" I woke up to a quiet knock and Olivers voice.

"Um yeah. I uh fell asleep." I yawned

"When you're finished, dinner is ready downstairs." He chuckles.

"Thank you." I reply and decide to actually bathe now.

*

"Hello beautiful." Oliver smiles as I make my way into the dining room. He pulls a seat out for me and sits beside me as Rayne brought out what appeared to be chicken parmesan. My mouth watered as she sat it down in front of me and the smell filled my senses

"Thank you." I said politely and she nodded and left.

"So why didn't you tell me you had your own driver and house keeper?" I asked him and he chuckled.

"Had to make sure you weren't a gold digger." He said and I laughed softly.

"Me? A gold digger really Oliver?" I asked and he laughed.

"Okay fine, I didn't want you to think I was trying to impress you with my flashy pad and my help." He said and took a sip of his wine.

"You don't need to impress me I already think you're amazing." I told him and he smiled as he dug into his dinner. I followed suit and enjoyed every last bite of our delicious meal.

When dinner was over Oliver led me to the couch and we ended trying to watch another movie.

"So what does your job do?" I asked him as I curled up into his arms again.

"Well the owners buy companies and put them under their name basically." He said and I looked at him.

"So like mergers?" I asked and he nodded.

"Sounds boring." I said

"Well I've been told sometimes it is and sometimes it's complete hell." He smiles.

"Well hopefully, if they hire me, I can make it a little less hell." I smile back.

"You'll definitely get hired." He said and I nodded and went back to the movie. It was actually pretty interesting with a bunch of aliens going against the weird looking devil things. I found myself actually focusing on it until I started feeling uncomfortable. I lucked up at Oliver to see him looking back at me. I blushed and he shook his head.

"Sorry got distracted by your beauty." He says.

"That was the cheesiest line I've ever heard." I giggle.

"Hey, I'm trying to be romantic here. But of course I really don't know how." He confessed. I raised up and kissed his cheek.

"You're doing great." I said and he stuck his tongue out at me. I impulsively grabbed it and held onto it.

He mumbles out in protest and jumps away from my hand as I wipe his saliva on his face.

"Gross." He wipes it away with a deep laugh.

"It's yours." I laugh with him.

"I think this was a good second date don't you think?" I asked and looked at him.

"Definitely." He smiles and pulls my face gently to his before kissing me softly.

"This isn't going to end up like last time is it?" He asked.

"Not unless you want it to." I told him and he smiled.

"As much as I'd love to. You have an interview to kill in the morning dear." He said and kissed me again.

"Oliver!" I squealed as he scooped me up in his arms and began to walk upstairs.

"Relax sweetheart, I'm just taking you to bed." He said and I blushed scarlet red.

"Get your mind out of the gutter." He chuckled and kissed me. I smiled against his lips and let him carry me to my room.

"Goodnight, lovely." He said and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight." I blushed and closed my door. I got my night gown on and headed to bed.

*

"Move away!" I screamed and pushed my way through the crowd of people that were gathered around.

"He's dead!" Someone screamed and I tried to push them away so I could see what was going on. When I finally got through the crowd in the center of them all lied a dead man that looked so familiar it hurt. I cried my eyes out and ran to the man.

"Please come back to me...I love you please." I cried.

*

"Raven?" Someone said my name quietly.

"Hmm?" I asked waking up as I felt someone's arms wrap around me. I forgot where I was for a second and got scared.

"You were having a nightmare." The familiar voice of Oliver said and I relaxed. I looked at the time to see that it was two in the morning.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you up." I said and wiped tears away.

"Why are you crying, lovely?" He asked and I sighed.

"My dreams always make me cry." I said and he held me tighter.

"Are they always nightmares?" He asked but I could barely hear him through his yawn.

"You can go back to bed, I'm okay." I said and he yawned again.

"I'll be here to keep you safe, my lady." He said and fell asleep holding onto me. I fell asleep after him listening to his slow and quite breathing.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm and the smell of bacon.

"Good morning." Mrs. Rayne smiled.

"Good morning ma'am...is Oliver still here?" I asked and she shook her head.

"He left around seven this morning." She told me as I sat at the bar.

"Do you like french toast?" She asked me and I nodded.

"Good." She smiled and handed me a plate of french toast and bacon with a glass of orange juice.

"Thank you." I smiled and took a bite. It was honestly the best french toast I had ever tasted in my life.

"Where did you learn to cook so well?" I asked her and she smiled.

"I was a chef for 20 years before I started working for the Barkers." She said as I ate on.

"How long have you been working for them?" I asked and she had to think about it.

"Since Oliver was born." She said and I looked at her surprised. She did not look old at all.

What kind of face cream does she use?

I smiled to her and ate on enjoying every bite.

"Oh Oliver left this for you." She said and handed me a note. I opened and a card fell out.

Good morning beautiful, I'm obviously not home but I'll see you for dinner tonight after your interview. I left my card so you could go shopping. Have a wonderful time, my dear.

~XO Oliver

I looked at the note in disbelief. Was he serious? I shook my head and continued to eat until my plate was clean and my glass was empty. I took my plate to the sink and started to wash it before Rayne came beside me.

"What are you doing, child?" She asked and I looked at her.

"Cleaning ma'am." I said and she laughed.

"Honey don't worry about that, that's my job." She said and I shook my head.

"I'd like to help." I said and she shook her head.

"Go to your room and get dressed. You have some shopping to do." She smiles and hands me Olivers card. I sighed and went up to get a quick shower and got some clothes on before I went outside to my car.

I got in my car and before I could get it started, my phone vibrated from my pocket.

*Where are you raven!!!!! I just came by your house and your landlord said you moved out. ARE YOU OKAY!!!!

*Im on my way to you now, I'll explain when I see you

*Kk

When I got to Jacksons house he was waiting impatiently on his front porch.

"What happened?" He asks as he gets in.

I explained everything to him quickly as I drove us to the mall.

"Jeez Raven. He's so good to you!!" Jackson smiles.

"I don't know why? We barely know each other." I shrug.

"Well living together is either gonna make or break the relationship honestly." He says.

"I know he's just being a good guy and letting me stay with him and all that but as soon as I can, I'll be getting an apartment." I respond.

"Ha, as if." He chuckles.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I say amused.

"You guys are so perfect for each other. By the end of the month I guarantee you'll be in love and all that good shit." He smiles.

"Oh shut up!" I laugh.

"He literally gave you his card to go shopping."

"For work clothes!" I protest.

"And while we're there we'll get you something sexy to wear for him." He chuckles evilly.

"Hell no!" I laugh but secretly I wanted to. There was no denying my feelings of lust towards him.

*

By the time we were done I had gotten plenty of outfits for work. I made sure to stay in the clearance sections of the stores we went to so that I didn't spend too much of Olivers money. I did end up buying a cheap lingerie set to wear for him though.

"Ready to go?" I asked Jackson as he finished checking out. He nodded in response and casually looped our arms together as we happily left the mall. He agreed to go to the interview with me so I wasn't as nervous as I was before.

*Ready for your interview?* Oliver texted.

*A little nervous but yes.*

*Dont be, my dear. You're going to rock it. Also, do I see a purchase from a lingerie store?

*Would it be okay if Jackson came over for dinner with us tonight? I ignored his question playfully

*Of course, my dear.

"Jackson you're coming to dinner tonight." I told Jackson with a smile as we got in the car.

"Ah so I get to see Mr. Barker outside of the classroom as well?" He chuckles.

"Yes." I laugh in response and begin driving to the office for my interview.

*

"Welcome to the team!" The lady that interviewed me shook my hand with a smile.

"Thank you so much." I say happily.

"It's very rare when Mr. Barker personally hires someone. He usually leaves it up to me but he must have seen something great in you." She says.

"Excuse me, what?" I ask.

"Oliver Barker? The owner of the company."

Oh fuck.

"Right." I say with a forced smile.

"Well anyway, you start on Tuesday." She smiles and leads me out of her office.

"How did it go?" Jackson asks as I get back to the car.

"Apparently, Oliver owns the company." I rest my head on the steering wheel and sigh.

"Oh shit." He laughs.

"He didn't exactly tell me that either." I sigh.

"Damn, I'm jealous. You got a hot boyfriend thats filthy rich, gives you a job and I'm still single." He says amused.

"Oh fight me, the people there are gonna think I slept with him to get the job." I groan.

"Fuck them! Make your money girl." He says encouragingly.

"Yeah, you're right. I've never let rumors bother me before. Why would I start now?" I say and begin driving back to Olivers.

"That's my girl!" He laughs.

When we got to Olivers, I was happy to see that he was home and relaxing on the couch.

"How did it go." He perks up when he sees me.

"It went well...boss." I smirk at him.

"Ah shit." He facepalms himself.

"Mhm, you've been caught." Jackson laughs as we join him in the living room.

"It isn't that big of a deal. Lots of bosses end up dating their assistants, so there shouldn't be a problem with my beautiful girlfriend working for me." He kisses my cheek with a devious smirk.

Girlfriend?

Butterflies filled my stomach as he kisses down my neck softly.

"Guys, get a room!" Jackson gags playfully and rolls his eyes.
