Monster

This darkness surrounds me, it's like this bright black light emitting from inside my body. I stare into the mirror in front of me, my eyes fading black slowly. The darkness swirls around my body as if it wants to protect me. However, also kill any who touch me. It's so dark, but yet beautiful. It's almost like I want to touch it. I reach my hand towards the mirror-

"Hey, you home?" In an instant, everything is gone. I turn around to see my best friend standing there with a smile on her face. A small one reaches my own face. She doesn't know about my little secret. I don't intend on telling her it either. At least, not right now. Things are hectic right now.

"Yeah, everything alright?" I ask, my voice soft and caring. It's like I'm a whole new person when she is around.

"Yeah, just checking up on you." My smile grows slightly. I wrap my arms around her shoulders and hug her tightly.

"You always care about me too much Eli." I whisper quietly, I open my eyes and notice through the window of my apartment that the moon is out. "I didn't realize it was so late." I mutter, not thinking she heard me.

"Well yeah, maybe you should go to bed." She pulls away from me slowly, leaving her hands on my shoulders, she stares into my eyes. She is too caring. I don't deserve her.

"I haven't really been able to sleep very well lately, I think I'm just gonna stay up." I pull away and walk over to my desk. Pulling out my small ponytail that holds my shoulder length brown hair, it falls down to my shoulders gently in a wave.

"Well, maybe I can stay with you?" I turn around to look at her, hopefulness in her eyes. A soft sigh escapes my lips, then a nod shortly. A small smile makes its way to my face. Maybe I can sleep tonight, if she is here. I just hope I don't have another nightmare.

We both get changed, my black shorts and a black tanktop. She however, has a pink pokadot shirt and fluffy white pajama pants. How are we even friends? We are so different. Well, I guess opposites attract. Well....not in that way. My face goes red slightly thinking about it. I quickly shake my head and sigh. We both get in my bed and lay down.

This isn't the first time we have slept together like this, in the past I had nightmares so she would stay with me to help me sleep. Lately, I have been telling her I haven't been so she wouldn't worry. But that isn't relatively true. I close my eyes and get ready to sleep, soon enough, darkness takes over.

My eyes snap open in an instant, when I look around, there is darkness all around me. I quickly run to try and find Eli, but I can't. I try to lift up my foot. It won't move. I look up quickly and see this dark monster standing above me. "MONSTER!" It shouts then flies towards me quickly.

A scream emits from my mouth as Eli shakes me, she always tries to calm me down, but it normally doesn't work. I shoot up from the bed, sweat dripping from my head. My eyes however fade black, which startles her. I quickly look away, a part of me prays she didn't see it. No matter how much I pray though, I know she saw the monster inside me.

"R-Ruth?" She whispers, I just stand up and run, my eyes fading black again. I don't notice how late it still is though, so the full moon is still hanging gently in the sky, I run as fast as I can down the empty street. The monster inside me is begging to come out. But I can't let it. I can't let people die.

I trip over a piece of trash in the alleyway, causing me to fall to the ground. I put my hands up so I don't fall, I roll against the pavement. The black swirls of darkness surround me again. "No!" I shout holding my head with my hands. This power, it's too much. Someone puts a hand on my shoulder from behind me.

"Calm down." His voice is soft, tears begin streaming down my face as I begin crying. Almost begging for it to stop. I look down at the ground. I close my eyes and steady my breathing. "You have a strange power." I look up at the man, his longish black hair covers parts of his eyes. "What's it called?"

"Monster."
