"Eva?"
As both Eva and Clara were about to step inside the room of the apartment complex, walking through the stairs, suddenly, someone summoned her from behind in a frigid, dense voice. The sound seemed much familiar as she turned behind to take a look at the person.
Behind them, a tall, elegant-looking lady, probably in her late 40's was standing beside the staircase. She had a strict cold expression on her face with her eyes intensively locked on them.
"Oh, Mrs. Lily?" Slowly taking a step closer to her, Eva smiled at her conveying her regards. She was the owner of the apartment complex she was residing in as a tenant, and also, preferably a stiff woman to deal with.
"Well, I guess you must have already guessed why I am here today." The lady walked closer to Eva taking slow steps while conveying her words in a deep voice.
"Yes... I know, Mrs. Lily--"
"You still have overdue of 3 months of rent. Besides, this is the 4th month running in but I haven't accepted any payment from you. Eva, have you already forgotten that you are living here as a tenant?" Her proclamation sounded intentionally rude enough.
"What the fuck? Why is she talking so harshly to her?" Clara seemed disgusted at her from her facial gesticulations and continued glaring at the woman wondering on her own.
"I know... And...I am sorry, Mrs. Lily. I didn't forget that my position here." Lowering her eyes down from her, she mumbled in a morose note.
"Your apologies won't be enough for me anymore dear. You have been residing here for a couple of years and...your brother was always punctual to take care of every measure. But...since past few months, you have been too irresponsible, Eva." She was speaking in a dense pitch implying the undeniable tyranny within her statement.
"Excuse me, Madam?" Clara couldn't hold back her patience anymore and chose to meddle inside their conversation with a frowned grimace. "Don't you think you are being too sour towards her--"
Immediately Eva gripped her arm tightly and shifted her gaze sideways towards her, slightly tilting her head. It resembled as if she was indicating her to stay silent. Watching her firm gesticulations, she didn't have a choice rather than obeying her.
Slowly, Eva raised her chin up and stared intensely at the woman. "Mrs. Lily, I don't want to sound pitiful before you...but it's true, I have been going through a chaotic mess." Her voice grew heavier as if her throat was becoming constricted with the urge of sobbing out aloud.
"I have been scammed a lot of money by a fraudster who had assured me of finding a reliable job... I chose to hide it from Felix as I didn't want him to fret about me unnecessarily... The money he used to transfer for me...I was saving them up to catch up with all the stuff that was messed up due to my stupidity. I thought...slowly I will clear up all the dues with the money he was sending and also finding a job by myself...
Sadly, my entire small world turned upside down when my only brother suddenly left me all alone in this world...Though he was considerate enough to leave some money in his account for me...but they weren't enough to pay out all the bills... So, I desperately started to look for jobs and thankfully I got one...
But again, my cursed fate came into play and...I got terminated from my job too--"
"What? You got terminated?" Swirling out her eyeballs in surprise, Clara almost shrieked out at her in surprise. "Didn't you start the job recently? What happened all of a sudden? Why? How?" She appeared impatient.
"It's a long story, Clara." She signaled at her to stay quiet and continued her declamation towards Mrs. Lily. "Though I got terminated...I will be receiving some considerable sum of the amount within a few days with which I can clear up all the residual bills. Also, I will be looking for a new set of jobs from tomorrow. So...Can you at least give me a few days more, please? She asked her much distressfully.
She stood silent all numb and frigid for a few minutes, intensely gawking at Eva. With a deep sigh out, she continued, "look, Eva, I had always liked Felix as if he was my own son...And what happened to him is purely unfortunate...Honestly, I feel sorry for you too that at such a young age you have to go through so much stuff.
But...I can't abandon my business by looking at your cursed fate...If I keep sparing you like this, rest all the other tenants would start messing with me which I absolutely can't accept. And to be honest, the other residents always talk stuff behind your back that you always bring bad luck to your surrounding--"
"Mrs. Lily," all of a sudden Eva interrupted her sentence in a deep rugged voice looking at her sharply. "You can directly come to the reason you are here for today. Wh-What do you want to tell me exactly?" She probed.
"Alright, then I will be straightforward with you. After clearing up the rent dues within this month, you can move out of this apartment. I have decided it for leashing it with a new resident." She sounded very gruff, with a stiff expression on her cast.
With her sudden proposal, Eva was entirely stunned in shock. For a moment, she even forgot to breathe as if the whole ground was collapsing beneath her feet. She stood still like a statue trying to cope up with the reality and muttered out, "wh-what?"
"I want you to move out, Eva. Look, from your current situation, I don't think you will be able to afford such a place like this--"
"Enough with the crap!!"
All of a sudden, Clara ran out of her patience and burst out viciously in front of them shrieking out loud. She glared at that woman rolling her eyeballs deep and gritted her teeth in anger taking a bold step closer to her.
"How... How can be you so heartless towards my friend? Don't you have a slightest of courtesy within you?" She yelled out.
"Clara please calm down. Let me deal with it--"
"You step back, Eva!" She boldly unleashed her arm from her grip while she tried to stop her from intervening again. "I have been done enough with all the shit! What does she think of herself? Who are you to look so down on her? You heartless old hag!" She continued screaming.
