Night Terrors

(Jared's POV)

TARDIS…

"This console room is different." Penny said, looking around. "What happened to the coral?"

"Well, the Doctor regenerated." I said, sitting on the steps.

"It's great to have you back." Ruby said, looking at Penny. "It's still a lot to take in. You being here."

"Oh, don't worry." Penny said, happily.

"So, we decided to come here for a bit." Blake said, crossing her arms. "While our weapons are getting the upgrades."

"That's not a bad plan." Weiss said.

"What can we do now?" Yang asked.

"I don't know." I said, sitting on the steps. "It's weird not having Aqours with me."

"What are we gonna do now?" Weiss asked.

"Are we gonna hang out in the TARDIS all day?" Ruby asked.

"Oh, I know." Penny said, smiling. "We should go to the game room. Is there a game room?"

"Yes." I said, looking over at Penny. "There is one."

"Let's go there!"

"I think I want to go somewhere else." I said, walking away with Team RWBY and Penny. "The TARDIS, well. She's still the same. And she recreated some rooms."

"Like what?"

"Our dorm room from Beacon." Ruby said, smiling.

"Really?" Penny asked. "Let me see."

The Doctor gets a message on his psychic paper, "Please save me from the monsters. Haven't done this in a while."

"Haven't done what? What are you doing?" Weiss asked.

"Making a house call." The Doctor said.

Garage block…

The Tardis materialises by a big puddle.

"We're on another adventure." Penny said, grabbing my hand. "I haven't been on one in so long."

"Is this okay?" Ruby asked. "You coming with us?"

"The Ace Ops said that they were fine with looking over Mantle."

"I don't know." I said, with Penny squeezing my hand. "I've been dreading this adventure."

"Well, I suppose it can't all be planets and history and stuff, Rory." Amy said.

"Yes, it can. Course it can. Planets and history and stuff. That's what we do. But not today. No. Today, we're answering a cry for help from the scariest place in the universe. A child's bedroom." The Doctor said.

By the lift…

George can hear the squeak of Mrs Rossiter's shopping trolley, and her asthmatic breathing as she goes past his window.

"Please save me from the monsters? Who sent that?" Rory asked.

"That's what we're here to find out." Ruby said.

"Sounds like something a kid would say." Blake said.

"Yeah, a scared kid. A really scared kid." I said, grabbing Penny's hand.

"So scared that somehow its cry for help got through to us in the Tardis." The Doctor said.

"Yeah, but you've traced it here." Amy said.

"Exactly. Ah. Going up."

"Let's split up." I said, looking at my friends. "Amy, Blake, and Yang. You're team one. Rory, Weiss, Ruby. You're team two. Penny, the Doctor, and I are team three. We meet back here in an hour or two."

We all went our separate ways.

Block of flats…

We split up and are knocking on doors. A little girl answers the one Amy, Blake, and Yang are at, while the Doctor, Penny, and I get Mrs Rossiter.

"Hi." Amy said.

"Hello." I said, squeezing Penny's hand. "What's up?"

And Rory, Ruby, and Weiss get a grumpy man.

"Hi. Are your parents home?" Yang asked. "Or is it just you."

The door opens wider to reveal twin girls.

"Okay…" Blake said.

"Is it about the bins?" Mrs Rossiter asked.

"What? What bins?" I asked.

"Community support. Just checking up on community-based things." Rory said.

The twins mother speaks to Amy.

"Can I help you?" Julie asked.

"Hi. Er, yeah. No, sorry. we were just wondering if you've had any bother around here?" Amy asked.

"Is everything okay?" Ruby asked.

"The bins. I can't be expected to get down all them stairs. I need new knees." Mrs Rossiter said.

"Bother? What do you mean?" Julie asked.

"She means…" Yang said.

"Are your neighbors nice? Do you get along with them?" Weiss asked.

"He didn't send you, did he?" Julie asked.

"Who?" Amy asked.

"Jim Purcell. Course we get on well. I'm their landlord. They love me, don't they?" Purcell asked.

"You're the landlord?" Weiss asked.

"We don't want to talk about the bins." Penny said, sadly. "Miss…"

"Mrs Rossiter." Mrs Rossiter said.

"I thought you'd know that, being from community support." Purcell said.

"Yeah. Yes. Yes, of course. Sorry." Rory said.

"I've already got a new hip. I'll be able to manage when I get the knees. Up and down them stairs like Sherpa Tensing, then." Mrs Rossiter said.

"Can we come in? It won't be long." I said, squeezing Penny's hand.

Purcell's dog snaps at Rory, Ruby, and Weiss.

"Oh." Weiss said. "Zwei is way nicer than that dog."

"Course not. You three could be anyone." Mrs Rossiter said.

"We could be, but we're not." The Doctor said.

"Or maybe it's best if we come back another time." Rory said.

"I'm the Doctor. This is Jared and Penny." The Doctor said.

Three doors are slammed in nine faces. George looks out through his window as the Ponds and Team RWBY walk along the landing.

"We've got to find that kid." Amy said.

"Maybe we should let the monsters gobble him up." Rory said.

"I don't know if that's a good idea." Blake said.

Across the way, the Doctor, Penny, and I spot George.

By the lift…

"Hey. Any luck?" Amy asked.

"Three old ladies…" The Doctor said.

"A traffic warden from Croatia…" I said, smirking.

"And a man with ten cats." Penny said.

"What are we actually looking for?" Rory asked.

"Ten cats. Scared kid, remember?" The Doctor asked.

"We found scary kids. Does that count?" Yang asked.

"Scary kids." I said, laughing a little. "Ponds, try the next floor with Bumblebee. Let's go, Doctor, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny."

I walked away with the Doctor, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny.

"Okay." Amy said.

"Maybe it was, you know, junk mail." Rory said.

"What?"

"The message on the psychic paper. Maybe it was just nothing."

The Ponds, Blake, and Yang get into the lift, Amy presses 4 and it drops like a stone.

"That could be a possibility." Blake said.

The floor indicator suggests they were originally above floor 12.

"But I don't like this." Yang said. "Anything can happen with the Doctor."

When the lift arrives at G, the doors open and the lift is empty.

(Open POV)

Front door…

The Doctor knocks and flashes his psychic paper as soon as Alex opens the door

"Oh. Right. That was quick." Alex said.

"Was it?" The Doctor asked, checking the paper.

"Claire said she'd phone someone. Social Services."

"Yeah. Social Services. That's us." Jared said, smiling.

"It's not easy, you know, admitting your kid's got a problem."

"You've got a problem. We've got a problem. I bet they're connected, I'm the Doctor, this is Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny. Call me Doctor." The Doctor said.

"What's your name?" Weiss asked.

"Alex." Alex said.

"Hello, Alex." The Doctor said.

The Doctor steps inside with Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny.

"So, tell us about George." Ruby said.

There is a label on the nearest door - George's room. Inside, George is still scaring himself by making nasty shadows.

"What are we dealing with today?" Weiss asked.

"Horror." Jared said, sadly. "Not a big fan of this adventure. But we have to get it done eventually."

Living room…

The Doctor is looking through the family albums.

"You're not a fan of horror." Weiss said, looking at Jared. "What does this adventure have that you don't like."

"Nursery rhymes." Jared said, shrugging his shoulders.

"Nursery rhymes? That can't be it."

"Is there something else you're afraid of?" Ruby asked.

"Yes." Jared said, sadly.

"Is it scary?" Penny asked.

"Yeah."

"Pantaphobia." The Doctor said.

"What?" Alex asked.

"That's what it's called. Pantaphobia. Not a fear of pants though, if that's what you're thinking. It's a fear of everything. Including pants, I suppose, in that case. Sorry. Go on."

"He hates clowns."

"Makes sense. I went up against a clown once. Beat him with laughter." Jared said, laughing a little.

Old toys. He thinks the old lady across the way is a witch. He hates having a bath in case there's something under the water. The lift sounds like someone breathing. Look, I don't know. I'm not an expert. Maybe you can get through to him."

"We'll do our best." Ruby said, smiling.

Room…

Rory and Blake wake up on bare floorboards in a dark room.

"Amy? Amy? Are you here?" Rory asked.

"Yeah. Here. No, here. It's me." Amy said.

"Blake?" Yang asked. "Where are you?"

"I'm right here." Blake said, walking up to Yang.

Rory has a small pencil torch.

"Are you okay?" Yang asked.

"I'm fine." Blake said.

"What happened to the lift? We were in a lift, weren't we?" Rory asked.

"Yeah, yeah. We. I remember getting in and then. What?" Amy asked.

"We're dead, aren't we."

"What are you talking about?" Blake asked.

"The lift fell and we're dead." Rory said.

"Shut up." Amy said, annoyed.

"We're dead. Again."

"Oh, shut up. Let's just find out where we are."

Corridor…

"Okay, where are we?" Yang asked.

Lots of wood panelling and a tall ceiling.

"I don't know." Amy said, sadly.

Georgian style layout.

"This looks like a mansion." Blake said.

"You know, it's obvious what's happened." Rory said.

"Yeah? Really? Because it's not obvious to me." Amy said, annoyed.

"The Tardis has gone funny again. Some time slippy thing. You know, The Doctor, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny are back there in Eastenders-land and we're stuck here in the past. This is probably seventeen hundred and something." Rory said, angrily,

"Yay. My favourite year."

"Talk about helpful." Yang said, rolling her eyes,

A shadowy figure crosses behind them.

George's room…

"We are dealing with a kid." Ruby said, sadly.

The lift moves, his dressing gown on the back of the door moves.

"At least he looks innocent enough." Weiss said.

George jumps and knocks his bedside lamp over.

"Yeah." Jared said, looking at George.

"George? You okay? What's the matter? Oh. Never mind. Were you having a nightmare, son?" Alex asked.

"Wasn't a nightmare. I wasn't asleep. Who are you?" George asked, looking at the Doctor, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny.

"I'm the Doctor. This is Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny." The Doctor said.

"A doctor? Have you come to take me away?"

"No, George. We just want to talk to you."

"What about?"

"About the monsters." Ruby said, smiling.

Kitchen...

Creaky door into a massive room with a long range of ovens.

Amy walks into some fire irons and makes a clatter, "A bit neglected, wherever it is."

"Let's find the front door, at least. Then we can work out where we are. When we are." Rory said.

Yang picks up a pan and taps it, "Hey, you guys."

"Hmm?"

"Look at this."

"Well, it's a copper pan." Blake said.

"No, it's not. It's wood. It's made of wood and just painted to look like copper."

"That is stupid." Rory said.

"Wait. Hang on." Amy said, spotting a lamp on a shelf. "There's a switch."

A flame shaped bulb lights up.

"Wow. Well, not seventeen hundred and something, then." Rory said.

They open drawers in a sideboard.

"It's glass. It's a glass eye." Blake said, looking at a very big glass eye. "This is new to me."

Rory's torch flickers.

"Stop doing that." Amy said.

"It's not me. Come on." Rory said.

"Yeah. Hang on." Amy said, getting the wooden pan for a weapon. "Blake, Yang. I know you girls don't have your weapons. Pick something."

Blake picked up a wooden chef's knife and Yang picked up a wooden pan.

George's room…

The Doctor is whizzing through not solving a Rubik's cube.

"Maybe it was things on the telly, you know?" Alex asked.

"Maybe." Jared said, leaning against the wall.

"Scary stuff, getting under his skin, frightening him."

"So, it was horror and thriller related, right?"

"Yeah. We stopped letting him watch."

"Oh, you don't want to do that. Because there could be some psychological stuff in there too." Jared said, scoffing.

"Then Claire thought it might have been something he was reading."

"Reading's awesome." Ruby said, happily. "I love reading. Do you like stories, George? I loved bedtime stories. The Infinite Man. The Two Brothers. The Story of the Seasons. The Grimm Child. The Girl in the Tower. All the classics."

The Doctor throws the Rubik's cube away, "Rubbish. Must be broken. I hate those things. Better tidy it away, though, eh? How about in here? No. Not in the cupboard. Why not in there, George?"

"It's a thing. A thing we got him doing ages back. Anything that frightens him, we put it in the cupboard. Creepy toys, scary pictures, that sort of thing." Alex said.

"And is that where the monsters go? Yeah. There's nothing to be scared of, George. It's just a cupboard." The Doctor said, while he is about to unlock it when there is a hammering at the front door that makes everyone jump.

"I think that was the front door." Weiss said.

Basement corridor…

"What do you think is going on?" Yang asked.

Because there are flagstones on the floor instead of wooden boards.

"It could be anything." Blake said. "Everything looks normal."

"Let's try down here." Rory said.

Someone is watching them.

Front door…

It is the landlord and his bulldog.

"Evening." Purcell said.

"Oh, hi." Alex said.

George's room…

They can just about be seen from the door.

"So, what are we expecting besides George?" Weiss asked.

"Anything interesting?" Ruby asked.

"Oh, I wonder what's in store," Penny said, happily.

"Nothing much." Jared said, shrugging his shoulders. "Y'know, I like how there's no running involved."

"I thought you liked the running." Weiss said.

"I do. It's just…"

"What?" Ruby asked.

"I don't want to lose any of you guys again." Jared said, sadly.

The Doctor gets out his sonic screwdriver.

"Is that a torch?" George asked.

"Screwdriver." The Doctor said.

"No can do, son. If I went around…" Purcell said, nearby.

"A sonic one. And other stuff."

"Please may I see the other stuff?" George asked.

"You may." The Doctor said, making some of the battery toys move. "Ah, pretty cool, eh?"

"Show off." Weiss said, scoffing. "Talk about a parlor trick."

"Oi. It's pretty cool."

"That's awesome." Ruby said, happily. "Making all of the toys do that."

"That's better. No tears from George, that's what I've heard. Go on, give us a smile, there's a brave little soldier. Bit rusty at this. Anyway, let's open this cupboard, eh? There's nothing to be…" The Doctor said, scanning the cupboard. "Off the scale. Off the scale. Off the scale. How?"

"All I want is my three hundred and fifty pound. Simple as that. Night, night. Come on, son. Come on." Purcell said, nearby.

Purcell leaves. Alex rejoins the Doctor, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, Penny, and George.

"Right. Sorry about that. So, have we got this thing open yet?" Alex asked.

"No! Don't do that! You really don't want to." Ruby said, using her Semblance to turn into rose petals and appear in front of the cupboard.

"Why?" Alex asked, looking at Ruby. "And how did you…"

"Because George's monsters are real." Ruby said, frowning.

Entrance hall…

An overturned empty bird cage, a candelabra on the floor.

"Oh, at last. Argh." Rory said.

"What is it?" Amy asked.

"No doorknob. Wooden pans, a massive glass eye, and now no doorknob." Rory said.

"And this clock." Blake said, looking at the clock.

"What?" Yang asked.

"Look at the hands, they're painted on."

A child's laughter and footsteps.

Kitchenette…

The Doctor is going through the cupboards.

"You five are supposed to be professionals. I'll never get him to sleep now. It's so irresponsible." Alex said.

"Alex, we're responsible." Weiss said, crossing her arms. "Except Ruby and Jared."

"Hey!" Ruby and Jared said, at the same time.

"So, stay away from the cupboard. It's not good and it isn't bare."

"And there's something else. Something I've missed. Something staring me in the face." The Doctor said.

"Look, I'd like you lot to leave, please. You're just making things worse. Will you stop making tea. I want you to leave." Alex said.

"No." Jared said, smiling. "We can't leave."

"What? What do you mean no? Leave. Get out. Now, please. Look, maybe this was a bad idea. We should sort out George ourselves."

"You can't. You won't be able to." Penny said, sadly.

"No one's going to tell us how to run our lives. I don't care who you are or what wheels have been set in motion. We'll sort it." Alex said.

"We're not just professionals. I'm the Doctor. And this is Jared, Ruby, Weiss, and Penny." The Doctor said, looking at Alex.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Alex asked.

"It means we've come a long way to get here, Alex. A very long way. George sent a message. A distress call, if you like. Whatever's inside that cupboard is so terrible, so powerful, that it amplified the fears of an ordinary little boy across all the barriers of time and space."

"Eh?"

"Through crimson stars and silent stars and tumbling nebulas like oceans set on fire. Through empires of glass and civilizations of pure thought, and a whole, terrible, wonderful universe of impossibilities. You see these eyes? They're old eyes."

"Sorry about his rambling." Weiss said. "The monsters in George's cupboard are real."

"You lot are not from Social Services, are you?" Alex asked.

"First things first. You got any Jammie Dodgers?" The Doctor asked.

"Oh. Can I get some chocolate chip cookies?" Ruby asked.

Bottom of staircase…

Childish laughter.

"Do you hear that?" Blake asked, her cat ears moving back and forth.

"Yeah. Wait." Rory said.

"They're getting closer."

"They?" Yang asked.

The four cross to the next door with the laughter behind it. Rory opens it. There is a three foot tall Peg doll behind it.

"Oh, it's just a. It's a dummy. Oh, it's just a dummy." Amy said.

"This is weird." Rory said.

"Yeah, says the time travelling nurse. Yeah, er, let's just leave that for now. Come on."

The Peg doll turns to watch them leave.

(Jared's POV)

Living room…

"What is it with these photos?" I asked, looking at the photo album. "God, they're so annoying."

"Here's a cup of tea." Weiss said, handing Alex a cup of tea. "We have a decision to make. Should we open the cupboard?"

"What?" Alex asked.

"Well, should we?" Ruby asked.

"Well…."

"Got to open the cupboard, haven't we. Course we have. Come on, Alex." The Doctor said.

"Alex, come on. How else are we ever going to find out what's going on here?" Penny asked.

"All right, but you lot said…" Alex said.

"Yeah, monsters. Well, that's what we do." I said, smirking. "Breakfast, dinner and tea. The Doctor, Ruby, Penny, Weiss, and me. We fight the monsters. So, this is an average day at the office for us."

"Okay, yeah. You're right."

"Or maybe we shouldn't open the cupboard." Ruby said, sadly.

"Eh?" Alex asked.

"We have no idea what could be in there." Weiss said.

"How powerful, how evil that thing might be." The Doctor said.

"We don't?" Alex asked.

"Come on, Alex. Alex, come on. Are you crazy? We can't open the cupboard." The Doctor said.

"God, no, no, we mustn't."

"Right. That settles it."

"Yes. Settles what?"

"Going to open the cupboard."

"I don't like this." Weiss said.

"Same." Ruby said, frowning.

"Everything is gonna work out." I said, smiling. "I promise."

George's room…

George peers out from behind his Dad as the Doctor approaches the cupboard. The lift starts up and makes us jump. The Doctor unlocks the cupboard and opens it, leaping backwards.

"It's a dollhouse." Ruby said, looking inside the cupboard.

There are clothes on hangers and toys at the bottom including a lovely Dolls' house.

"What's it doing in there?" Weiss asked.

"I don't understand it. It has to be the cupboard. The readings from the sonic screwdriver, they were…" The Doctor said, running out and fetching the photo album.

"How old is George, Alex?" I asked.

"What? How old?" Alex asked.

"Yeah. How old is George?"

"Well, I told you. Just turned eight."

"Do you remember when he was born?" Penny asked.

"Of course." Alex said.

"Of course you do. How could you not remember when your child was born?" I asked, grabbing the photo album from the Doctor and landing on specific pages. "You and Claire. Christmas Eve, 2002. Right?"

"What? Er yeah."

"It's a couple weeks before George was born." Weiss said. "Tell us about the day he arrived."

"That day must have been wonderful." Ruby said, smiling.

"Well, it was the best day of my…" Alex said, pausing a moment to think. "...life."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"You don't sound sure." Weiss said.

"What are you three trying to say? Look, I don't like this. I've told you lot before, I want you to go." Alex said.

"What's wrong Alex?" Penny asked.

"I can't. Oh, don't. Oh, this is scary." Alex said, sadly.

"No, Alex, this is scary. Claire with baby George. Newborn, yes?" The Doctor asked.

"Yes."

"What's going on?" Ruby asked.

"Basically, we're in for a wild ride." I said, looking at Penny. "Penny, go to the other room."

"Why?" Penny asked.

"Just go."

"Okay." Penny said, leaving the room.

"What was that for?" Weiss asked.

"I think Jared's keeping Penny safe." Ruby said, frowning.

"We tried everything. She was desperate. As much IVF as we could afford, but. Claire can't have kids. How? How can I have forgotten that?" Alex asked.

"Who are you, George?" Weiss asked.

"It's not possible. This isn't…" Alex said.

"George?" Ruby asked.

The lift makes his toys shake. The bedside lamp glows brightly all of a sudden, then the cupboard door flies open.

"This is why I wanted Penny away from us for a bit." I said, looking between Ruby and Weiss. "I knew how bad things would get."

A white light floods out and grabs Alex, the Doctor, Ruby, Weiss, and I.

"This is bad." Weiss said.

"George! George, what's going on? Are you doing it?" The Doctor asked.

"What's happening?"

"Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters." George said.

"George, no!" I said, looking at George. "Stop it!"

"Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters.

"Help me, Doctor, Jared, Ruby, Weiss!" Alex said, terrified.

"Please save me from the monsters." George said.

"George, no!" Ruby said, worried. "You don't have to do this!"

The Doctor and I are dragged back into the cupboard.

"Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters. Please save me from the monsters." George said.

Alex, Ruby, and Weiss are dragged into the cupboard.

"No!" Alex said.

And the door slams shut. Peace reigns again.

(Open POV)

Corridor…

"Why aren't there any lights? I miss lights. You don't really miss things till they're gone, do you? It's like what my nan used to say. You'll never miss the water till the well runs dry." Rory said.

"Rory." Amy said.

"Except light, I mean, not water. Lights are great, aren't they? I mean if this place was all lit up, we wouldn't even be worried at all."

"Rory. Panicking, a bit."

"Yeah, yeah. Sorry."

"Yeah." Amy said.

"Help me, please. Keep them away from me. Keep them away." Purcell said, terrified.

A life sized Peg doll grabs Purcell.

"Oh, my god." Yang said, watching what is happening.

Purcell screams, then turns to wood himself.

"This went from bad to worse…" Blake said, with Yang grabbing her hand.

"I take it all back. Panic now." Amy said.

Amy, Rory, Blake, and Yang run back the way they came.

"Don't run away. We want to play." The doll said.

Amy, Rory, Blake, and Yang slam the library door on them.

Dining room…

Table with candelabra set for a meal.

"George! George, don't do this. Please! We want to help you, George." Jared said, looking around the place.

"We went, we went into the cupboard. We went into the cupboard. How can it be bigger in here?" Alex asked.

"More common than you'd think, actually. You're okay." The Doctor said.

"Where are we?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Weiss asked.

"No."

"We're inside the dollhouse." Weiss said, crossing her arms.

"The dolls' house?"

"Yeah. We're inside the cupboard. Inside your apartment, I mean flat. We're inside the doll house." Ruby said, smiling.

"No, no, just slow down, would you?" Alex asked.

"Look. Wooden chicken. Cups, saucers, plates, knives, forks, fruit, chickens. Wood." The Doctor said, handing Alex stuff. "So, we're either inside the dolls' house or this a refuge for dirty posh people who eat wooden food. Or termites. Giant termites trying to get on the property ladder. No. That's possible. Is that possible?"

Corridor…

"Look, will you stop? What is he? What is George? And how could I forget that Claire can't have kids? How?" Alex asked.

"It's a really powerful perception filter." Jared said, grabbing Ruby's hand. "It made you and Claire think you had a son. Made everyone think that. It changed your memories."

"But what could do that?" Ruby asked.

"It's just a mirror." Weiss said.

They move on to reveal a Peg doll watching.

Library...

The Peg dolls are trying to break in.

"Lock the door!" Yang said.

"There isn't a lock." Blake said.

The door is pushed open.

"No, no, no, no, no!" Rory said, annoyed,

"Come on!" Amy said, angrily.

They push it shut again. Rory fetches a large cotton reel to put against it.

Entrance hall…

"Okay, the Ponds were here with Bumblebee." Jared said, smiling. "That means that things are mostly going with how I remember them."

Amy has left the lantern here.

"So, Claire can't have kids and something responded to that. Responded to that need. What could do that?" The Doctor asked.

"I thought you were the experts, fighting monsters all day long. You tell me." Alex said.

"Oi! Listen, mush. Old eyes, remember? I've been around the block a few times. More than a few. More than Jared, Penny, and Team RWBY. They've knocked down the blocks I've been round and re-built them as bigger blocks. Super blocks. And I've been round them as well. I can't remember everything." The Doctor said, looking at Alex.

"Is that an elevator?" Ruby asked.

The noise of the lift.

"Why is it loud?" Weiss asked.

"Doctor…" Alex said.

"It's like trying to remember the name of someone you met at a party when you were two." The Doctor said.

"Doctor, the elevator." Jared said, squeezing Ruby's hand.

"And I can't just plump for Brian like I normally do."

"Doctor, shut up! And listen!"

"Shush. What's that?" The Doctor asked.

"It's the lift. It's the sound that the lift makes. George is scared stiff of it." Alex said, sadly.

The electric lights in the bulbs on the candelabra go out one by one.

Library…

"We can't stay in here. We have got to get out!" Yang said, looking around.

"How?" Blake asked.

"Take control, Rory, Yang. Take control of the only thing we can. Letting them in." Amy said.

"Letting them in?" Rory asked.

"It'll surprise them. We open the door and we push past them. Rory, Yang, kick them, punch them, anything, okay?" Amy asked.

"That could work." Blake said.

"Time to play." A doll said, nearby.

"Okay." Rory said.

"Okay." Amy said.

Rory arms himself with a mop while Yang looks down at her prosthetic arm to realize that she's armed then Amy and Blake drag the cotton reel away.

"Go on!" Amy said.

One doll falls flat on its face thanks to a kick by Yang.

"Got it." Yang said, smirking.

Rory pushes past the other, "Amy, Blake, Yang, come on."

The Purcell doll grabs Amy and another nearby doll grabs Yang.

"Rory!" Amy said, terrified.

"Blake!" Yang said, worried.

"Amy! Yang! Get off…" Rory said.

Amy and Yang are transformed into peg dolls.

"No…" Blake said, sadly.

"Tick tock goes the clock, and all the years they fly. Tick tock and all too soon, you and I must die." The children said, singing.

Rory and Blake back away up some stairs.

Entrance hall…

The candelabra is lighting up and going out again.

"Five times." Alex said.

"What?" Ruby asked.

"The lights. It's happening five times. It's like one of George's habits. We have to switch the lights on and off five times."

"Now you're getting it." The Doctor said, smiling.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"What do you tell George to do, Alex, with everything that scares him?"

"Well, put it in the cupboard."

"Exactly. And George isn't just an ordinary little boy, we know that now, so anything scary he puts in here. Scary toys, like the dolls' house. Scary noises, like, like the lift. Even his little rituals have become part of it. A psychic repository for all his fears, but what is he?" The Doctor asked.

The Amy and Yang dolls enter.

"Oh, my God." Jared said, noticing a yellow part of the yellow doll. "You're kidding me."

The Doctor tries to sonic the dolls.

"A gun? You've got a gun?" Alex asked.

"It's not a gun. Wood! I've got to invent a setting for wood. It's embarrassing." The Doctor said.

Jared finds a pair of giant pinking shears and prods the doll back to make their escape, "Come on."

"Don't run away. We just want to play." Yang Doll said.

Bottom of the stairs…

"Massive psychic field, perfect perception filter, and that need. That need of Claire's to, to. Stupid Doctor. Ow." The Doctor said.

Jared split the shears into two and he tossed half of it to Weiss so they could fend off Amy-Doll and Yang-Doll.

"Um, what is he?" Ruby asked.

"George is a Tenza. Of course he is." The Doctor said.

"He's a what?" Weiss asked.

"What's a Tenza?" Ruby asked.

Peg dolls are approaching from all directions.

"A cuckoo. A cuckoo in the nest. A Tenza. He's a Tenza. Millions of them hatch in space and then whoomph, off they drift, looking for a nest. The Tenza young can sense exactly what their foster parents want and then they assimilate perfectly." The Doctor said.

"George is an alien?" Alex asked.

"Yup." Jared said, holding the scissor blade. "He is."

"But he's, he's our child."

They back up the staircase.

"Of course he is. He's the child you always wanted." Weiss said.

"He sensed that instinctively and sought you out, but something scared him. Started this cycle of fear. It's all completely instinctive, subconscious." The Doctor said.

"I think George isn't even aware that he's controlling it." Ruby said, sadly.

"So we have to make him aware. George!"

George's room…

"George, you're the only one who can stop this…" The Doctor said, nearby.

Staircase…

"But you have to believe. You have to believe. You have to know you're safe." The Doctor said.

George's room…

George shakes his head.

"We can't save you from the monsters." The Doctor said, nearby.

Staircase…

"Only you can. George, listen to me." The Doctor said.

George's room…

"George, listen to me." The Doctor said, nearby.

Staircase…

"Rory!" The Doctor said.

"Doctor! Jared!" Rory said.

"Where's Amy?" The Doctor asked.

"And where's Goldilocks?" Jared asked.

Rory and Blake point at the dolls behind them.

"This whole time we've been fending ourselves against Amy and Yang." Weiss said, scoffing.

"Oh, no. George! George, you have to face your fears!" The Doctor said.

George's room…

"You have to face them now." The Doctor said, nearby.

Staircase…

"You have to open the cupboard, or we'll all be trapped here forever in a living death. George!" The Doctor said, terrified.

George's room…

"George, listen to me. George! George, listen to me. George!" The Doctor said, nearby:

George reaches for the key.

Staircase…

"Please! George, you have to end this. End this. End it. End it now!" The Doctor said.

George opens the cupboards and the dolls stop moving.

"Who's that kid?" Blake asked.

George is standing at the bottom of the staircase.

"That's George." Weiss said, looking at her half of the scissor blade. "He's the reason why this is all happening."

"George. George, you did it. You did it." Ruby said, happily. "You opened the cupboard."

"Hey, it's okay. It's all okay now. Everything's going to be fine." Jared said, holding his end of the scissor blade.

The dolls start moving again down the stairs.

"No! No! No, no, no, no, no. George, you created this whole world. This whole thing. You can smash it. You can destroy it." The Doctor said, as George shakes his head. "Something's holding him back. Something's holding him back. Something."

"How do we stop this?" Blake asked.

"I don't know!" Jared said, annoyed. "This has gas mask zombies written all over it."

"Gas mask zombies?" Ruby asked.

"That's what did it. That's what the trigger was. He thought you were rejecting him. He thought he wasn't wanted, that someone was going to come and take him away." The Doctor said.

"Well, we, we talked about it." Alex said, sadly.

"Yeah, and he heard you, Alex. A Tenza's sole function is to fit in, to be wanted, and you were rejecting him."

"We just couldn't cope! We needed help!"

"Yes, but George didn't know that. He thought you were rejecting him. He still thinks it."

"But how can we keep him? How can we? He's not…" Alex said.

"Not what?" Ruby asked.

"He's not human."

The dolls surround George.

"No." Jared said, frowning.

"Dad!" George said, terrified.

Alex pushes his way through the dolls and grabs George, "Whatever you are, whatever you do, you're my son, and I will never, ever send you away. Oh, George. Oh, my little boy."

"Dad." George said, letting out tears.

The cupboard door flies open.

"My little boy." Alex said.

"Dad."

Living room…

"That must have been a sensational adventure." Penny said, happily. "Helping a family like that."

By the lift…

Rory, Amy, Blake, and Yang step out.

"Were we?" Amy asked.

"Yeah." Rory said.

Purcell wakes up on the carpet, with Bernard licking his hand.

"I am not looking at a wooden doll ever again." Blake said.

Purcell hugs his dog in relief.

"Tell me about it." Yang said, sadly.

Front door…

Claire comes home from her night shift.

"Right, stay still. Still as a statue, or I'll come and get you." Alex said, nearby.

George laughs. Claire goes inside.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Alex said, nearby.

"Hi." Claire said.

"Hey, close eyes." Alex said, nearby.

(Jared's POV)

Kitchen…

"I loved this adventure." I said, smiling. "Even if it was creepy."

George has just had his face washed and dried.

"No more horror themed adventures." Weiss said, crossing her arms. "Got it?"

"Hello. You're Claire, I expect. Claire…" The Doctor said, giving Claire air kisses. "...how'd you feel about kippers?"

"Er who…" Claire said.

"They sent people about George. It's all sorted." Alex said.

"Yeah, we had a great time, didn't we?" Ruby asked.

"Yeah." George said, smiling.

"You see? He's fine." I said, happily.

"What, just like that?" Claire asked.

"Yeah. Trust me."

Outside the flat..,

"Doctor, Jared, Ruby, Weiss, Penny, wait." Alex said.

The Doctor, Ruby, Weiss, Penny, and I are walking away.

"See ya." I said, holding Penny's hand. "It was a fun, nice adventure. Even if it did terrify me sometimes."

"No, no, you can't just. I mean…" Alex said,

"It's sorted. You sorted it. Good man, Alex. Proud of you." The Doctor said.

"So, what now?" Ruby asked.

"Is that it?" Weiss asked.

"For now." I said, excitedly. "Anyway, I can't wait to get back to Atlas!"

"Same!" Penny said, with me squeezing her hand. "I can't wait to have another one soon."

The five of us walked away from Alex.

"Kippers are getting cold." Claire said, nearby.

Garage block…

"Come on, you lot. Things to do, people to see, whole civilisations to save. You feeling okay?" The Doctor asked, looking at Amy.

"Er, I think so." Amy said.

"Well, it's good to be all back together again, in the flesh. Come on."

Tardis…

"Now, did someone mention something about planets and history and stuff?" The Doctor asked.

"Yeah." Rory said.

"It was Amelia Pond." I said, looking at Amy. "Where do you want to go?"

"Er…" Amy said.

"Yang, got any ideas on where you want to go?" Blake asked.

"Um…" Yang said, sadly.

"You're lost in thought." Weiss said, crossing her arms.

"Are you okay?" Ruby asked.

"I'm fine. Give me time. I can think of something." Yang said.

"Well, Yang and I have just been turned into wooden dollies." Amy said, annoyed.

"Excuses, excuses." The Doctor said, angrily.

"It's tough, though. It's like being given three wishes. The whole universe?" Rory asked.

"Or universes. Ooo, three wishes, like Ali Baba. How about that?" The Doctor asked.

"Tick tock goes the clock, even for the Doctor and Jared." Children said, nearby.
