Chapter 9

"I'll be back, ok Maria."

"Ok. I love you."

"I love you too."

I grabbed my bags and headed out. We have been staying inside for a few days now and we require groceries. My car was so warm because it's just been sitting in the basement of our apartment.

I arrived at Madons Shopping. I always go here for food because a) it's got everything I need, b) it's only 5 minutes from home.

I headed in and went straight for the bread. For lunch, I always like to make a bagel with ham, cheese and pepperoni which I then put it in the oven. It's so delicious.

I closed my eyes and started to think about how good my lunch is going to be today.

"Excuse me?"

I opened my eyes I saw that I was standing in someone's way.

"My bad. Oliver!"

"Oh, hi Katie."

"How's it going?"

"Good. You?"

"I'm terrific. Just getting groceries for Maria and me."

"You still roommates?"

"Yes and girlfriends."

"Really? Is that why you broke up with me?"

"No. I didn't love you. I thought I did but I didn't feel a connection between us. I'm sorry."

"The fuck! As if. You broke up with me because you had feelings for her while we were together!"

I sighed and walked away.

"You motherfucker!"

Once I got back to the apartment, I made the choice to not tell Maria.

When I got home she was laying on the couch playing Among Us and watching The Office. I placed the groceries on the island and walked over to her.

"You watching it without me?"

"No. I'm watching the ones that I missed last week. When I fell asleep on your shoulder."

"Ok..."

I walked back to the kitchen and started to put everything away. The fridge was starting to get full. When I went to the store, I made sure to buy a big container of chocolate sauce for Maria. She always has a large, tall glass of milk with 2 spoonfuls of chocolate sauce.

I grabbed the bagels, ham, pepperoni and cheese. Once they started to melt in the oven, the whole kitchen smelled wonderful.

My brain kept telling me that I should inform Maria what happened at the store, but my heart says I shouldn't.
