When two paths meet

Mako's POV

"Ren! Leana!" I shout as I try to catch up to my best friends

"Mako!" shouted Ren as i fell into a hug

"So we heard that you and Ash froze the courtyard" Leana said with a laugh

"That's already getting spread around? we just did that." I exclaimed

"Well we may have taken a slight peak at interesting things that would happen today in one of the crystal balls" Ren said with a giggle

Ms. Delphi stood up to begin class "hello everyone. I've been expecting you." she grinned at her own joke. "Today you will be looking into the crystal ball and you will try to-"

I drown out her voice thinking about Ash, I see him on the down crying. I accidentally tap the crystal ball and the memory gets projected onto it.

"- So the person beside you please try to conjure a place in time. Oh Mako is see you've already conjured a moment would you like to share with the class?"

"Ummmmm" I began to panic

Ren mutters something and the orb flashes to a different place in time "Yes Ms. Delphi we were able to conjure a moment from a different world, they called this the French Revolution."

"Extremely impressive, it takes lots of magic to be able to be able see beyond our own timeline!" Ms Delphi exclaimed.

"Thanks Ren." I whisper to them

"It's my pleasure that was your memory not theirs" They replied

"How'd you change the crystal ball?" Leana asked Ren

"It was a simple looking glass spell, i could show you sometime if you wanted" Ren stated

"That sounds awesome, I'll stop by later and you can show me the steps" Leana replied

I felt like there was an energy surrounding them, it felt familiar yet so distant that I couldn't remember what it was.

Class ended but Ren caught up with me. "What happened in the the courtyard? I don't think I've ever seen you panic so much."

"Oh nothing we were just doing the project for Ms. Hecate and he activated his powers and -"

"You felt powerless to help him?" They said cutting me off mid sentence.

"..."

"...yeah." I finally reply

"But he's fine Mako so relax and maybe take him a snack or something and talk to him." They said before rushing off to lunch.

Are they right? Am I just over reacting? Everything is fine, so why can't I stop thinking that something isn't okay. Flashes of his smile fill my mind a smile that looked innocent but it was paired with eyes that carried more pain than one would think. No they can't be right.

Ash's POV

I can't tell if Mako noticed the fake part of the smile. Morgan was right beside me walking to a class we had together which was, combat training?

"This could be really fun Ashy come on give it a chance" Morgan practically begged

We walk into the training room, and i feel all her enthusiasm drain. We see people of so many skill levels, and matches i can't even keep up with.

"This could be really fun, give it a chance." I mocked earning a swift punch in the arm

"Aye save it for class newbie!" said a hansom boy no older than 17 with dark hair moving in swift fluid motions, sparing with an almost equally skilled partner before he blasts him off the mat with a beam of light.

"Hello, welcome, my name is Andrew I'm one of the student teachers" Andrew said in a heavy southern accent.

Morgan looked slightly more excited now that Andrew was talking to her.

"So to gauge your skill I think we might just have you two spare with each other if that's okay?"

"That works" I respond knowing that Morgan is daydreaming about this boy is front of us

"Great we will have you guys go first, just so you know you can use your powers when sparing." Andrew informed before moving on.

"Hey sis, go easy on me." I joked "In your dreams Ashy" she responded not joking at all walking off to prepare, what did I get myself into?

"Everyone I'm going to need to use the full training area for an evaluation!" Shouted Andrew with much more excitement than needed. "Take your places! Ash verses Morgan!"

She slides her foot over the ground and the floor starts to freeze over she makes quick movements and is in front of me faster than I thought anyone should be able to move. I move quickly to block a kick but to my surprise she grabs my arm and flips me over her shoulder. Morgan helps me up as people cheer for her fast victory. Andrew in shock as a new record is placed for the fastest sparing match that has ever occurred in that room.

"Okay Ash we are going to be putting you in beginners sparing and Morgan you will be in the higher tiers, each person you defeat in fair combat you will rank up we can talk more about it during lunch if you want to eat with me." Andrew said with just as much joy as before.

"Awesome!" Morgan says excitedly while she is practically glowing she hugs me and i groan

"Ooh sorry about that I didn't hurt you too badly did I?" She says guilt now starting to fill her expression instead of excitement.

"Nah sis you couldn't ever hurt me that badly." I reassure hoping she will continue to celebrate her position. "Hey it's almost time for lunch you ready to go?" I ask trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, but I think I might go eat with Andrew since he invited me if that's okay with you." She said clearly asking if i'd be okay without her.

"Go get it on with the Sunshine boy, I'll be with Leana, Ren, and Mako again." I said trying not to draw attention to Mako's name.

"Okay so what I'm hearing is that you are going to sit with the boy you just fell apart in front of like it isn't a big deal?" She asked knowing emotions aren't my forte.

"I didn't fall apart in front of him! I just lost control and froze an entire courtyard, that's bound to happen with people learning to use their powers!" I say trying to find an excuse that doesn't include me falling apart.

"Suit yourself Ashy." she said before getting up giving me a much lighter hug and running off to catch up to Andrew.
