Chapter twelve

Ida's POV

The thought of Graces death came flooding in my mind.I felt so weak and so sad.I wanted to lie in bed and not go to school today.

Someone began to knock my door.I rose from my bed lazily and opened the door. My mother walked in.

"Ida how are you doing" She asked,concerned.

"I'm fine" I answered as I rubbed my forehead with my palms.

She took a seat on my bed and I sat next to her.

"I know you're sad about Grace's death"

I felt like crying.I blinked my eyes continuously to prevent the tears the tears from falling.

"The investigator found out that Grace had no family members because they've all passed away".Poor lonely woman,That's why when I gave her a time off she refused saying she would prefer to stay with us"

"When is the funeral date?" I asked sadly.

"I discussed it with your father and he said it was okay to have the funeral two days from now"

"I think that will do"

"Hailey's mom called me and said that her daughter's birthday party has been posponed to next week"

I nodded.

I am sure her mother postponed it because of what she did to me.

"Should I let the maids bring your breakfast here"

"No thank you I'll prepare for school now"

Rea was preparing sweet potato pancakes.

"Hey Rea good morn-.....never mind what's so good about this morning"

She turned the pancakes over and looked at me.

"Yep.Doesn't feel the same without Grace.Right?"

"Yeah.I have missed the days when she used to play with me"

"You know"she said carelessly as she placed two sweet potato pancakes on a plate and handed it to me."I feel pity for the old woman.No family members by her side when she died"

She gave me a fork.

"Would you like some coffee or tea"

I nodded a 'no'

I pulled a chair from the dinning area and dragged it towards the kitchen counter.

I sat down and began to eat.

Michael walked into the kitchen.

"What a bad day and a moody one without Grace here"

He leaned on the counter with his left shoulder as he faced me.

"Ma'am Ida,I'll be waiting for you in the parking lot"

He walked to the eletric stove where Rea was making more pancakes.He looked at Rea and then at the plate of hot delicious sweet potato pancakes.When Rea wasn't looking he quickly snatched one and took a bite.

"I saw that"She turned the pancake she was frying over.

Who wouldn't have seen that.He was too close to her to think he was being smart by snatching a pancake with her knowing.I laughed softly.

"Mmmhh delicious pancakes Rea"he took one last bite and left through the back door.

After I had finished my breakfast I met Michael in the parking lot.He was leaning on the car and rolling the car keys around his finger.

He opened the car door for me before he sat in.

"Which street are we on"I asked after the car had been  silent for two minutes

"Street 18 ma'am Ida"

"Stop here" I patted the drivers seat as i curiously looked outside the window to see if Xoey was at home.I could barely see since I left my contact lenses at home and my glasses were broken thanks to one of Haileys BFF.

Even though my vision was blurry I could see the form of a girl coming closer to our car.

"Open the doors"

I heard something clicking.I opened the door and saw Xoey standing in front of me.

"Are you here to pick me up for school?"

"Yes"

"I'll be right back"

Michael was starring at this new vicinity I had told him to stop at when we passed here everyday to school without stopping by.

"Ma'am do you know that girl"

"Yes.She's Xoey,my best friend"

"Ok"

A few minutes later she returned with her school bag and sat next to me.Michael started the car.

"Hello Ida"she said, adjusting her bag on the seat.

"Hi,Hailey's party has been postponed "

"What!" She whisper-shouted with a shocked expression her face.

"I'm sure it's because she got into a fight with me yesterday"

When we got to school,Xoey went to her first class.I entered the code to my locker and opened it.I picked my books for my first class and closed my locker.

Staring with blue eyes and an angry face was Hailey.Her blond hair was styled in a curly way and her outfit was super cute.

Remembering what had happened yesterday I ignored her and continued to walk towards room 51.

She jumped in my way  with her arms crossed.I almost walked past her but she straightened her arms in full length to stop me.I paused in my tracks,closed my eyes and sighed.

"Hailey I know that's you.For your information I'm not interested in your little games right now I have other important things to do"

"Let me warn you nerd"

She drew her face closer to mine so that we were both looking at each other in the eye."I'm not done with you yet.I'm giving you a few days to get your mind of things"

She pointed her index finger at me as she spoke through her teeth.

"Is that a threat?"I asked simply as I rose my left brow.

"Oh  yes it is and you better be scared" She added more vim to her voice.

I looked at her with sleepy eyes and shrugged my shoulders"ok"

I walked past her.I held my books tighter in my arms.

Whew! I was really scared by her threat but I managed to put up a though behaviour.

As my mother promised,when my second lesson was over she picked me up.

Andrès POV

One advantage of living alone is that when you miss school your parents will never find out unless your principal calls them to inform them you've  missed school or pay you a visit unexpectedly.

I laid on the bed feeling relaxed.

Hailey was such an ass to let that nerd break her nose.I wouldn't have carried her and sent her to the sick bay if Denzel (one of my basketball team players)hadn't informed me.I was so lost with all that girls flirting around me that I didn't know what was going on around me.

I lazily dragged myself out of bed into the bathroom and had a cold shower.I cleaned myself and wrapped a towel around my waist.I went to the kitchen to prepare some breakfast.The doors of the hall opened and and a girl walked in.She was Bethany Hollingsworth.Her black heels made clacking noises anytime she took a step on the marble floor.Her  wavy brunette hair swayed behind her.She was wearing a white fitting dress and was holding a black purse.

"Hey baby"She carelessly dropped her purse on the sofa before she came to the kitchen to kiss my cheek.

"Hi"I held her on the waist as I almost kissed her lips.She pulled away from my grip and slapped me.

"Why haven't you been answering my calls and text messages"She questioned me and held her slim waist.

I knew how she was.If you didn't answer her questions she'd find a way to get you to answer them.

"My phone was missing for a few days until one of my basketball team players found it at the boys locker room"

"And when was that?"

"Yesterday"

"Then why didn't you call me back"

"Because my phone was low battery and I'm still charging it"I pointed at the small table that stood beside the television.

I was really lucky that I put my phone on charge else my lie wouldn't have been complete.

She sighed and let her hands fall to her hips.

"I believe you.What's for breakfast?"She asked as she took a peep in the frying pan.

Disapointed she went to the hall and relaxed in one of the sofas.

I put some sliced bread in the toaster and prepared  Coffe with extra cream.I caught the bread with a plate when it popped out of the toaster.

I poured some honey over it and made fruit salad.

"Bettany food is ready"I coaxed.

She joined me."I must say you're not very bad at cooking"she commented after she sipped the hot coffee.

"When we are done I want to go somewhere with you"

"Ok,anything for you.....baby"
