A Special Day

Episode 9

I sat beside my window like a restrained pet. I could see the air benighted and all the dusking dales, and lamps in Ebeni lighted.

Suddenly the clouds became churlish and kraken-cruel. They cough out great gouts of water and thunking balloons of sopping moisture. It teems down in a biblical deluge, flooding the rivers, drowning the fields and overflowing the dams. It is a Noah's-Ark cataclysm of rain, an unending cataract of water sluicing from the sky.

I ran outside to pack my clothes at the backyard; on my return I met someone standing at the entrance of my door. I requested to see who was. The person turned around ; it was Ochuwa. She looked sober but it didn't really catch my attention.

I walked past her without saying a word, with the heap of clothes I held, I struggled to open the door, I couldn't, then she opened the door. I went in, placed the clothes on the couch and returned to lock the doors.

She waited under the shade because the rain was heavy. As soon as she saw me locking the doors, she walked towards me. She tried talking to me but I told her I don't have anything to say to her nor do I have to listen to her words.

She pulled me back, and said she would be leaving for the city tomorrow and from there she would be traveling out to a foreign country. "I know I have caused alot of tantrum in your life, I wasn't proud of my family because of the shortcomings happening between my father and our people. I was always ashamed to go out as the princess and I preferred portraying myself as a commoner like every other person" as she continued. I have been here more than five times in two weeks and you have refused to see me or give me listening ears, I just strived to see you for the last time but it seems coming to see you was a terrible decision and a futile one indeed.

She walked away into the heavy rain like a lady who have lost her aspirations of life. I went in saddened by her words, I wouldn't want to miss her. On the other thought, the rain was so heavy to let her be out there on her own; what if something happens to her; I won't be able to forgive myself. I ran outside, to look for her. I saw her still walking faintly; called out to her despite the tusking of my teeth in the cold weather. She kept walking and didn't respond. I ran after her and obstructed her from moving. I tried apologizing , and that I could not leave her out here all by herself with the gouts of rain that seemed to be pouncing on the earth.

"If you only care about the rain being so harsh; and you feel its risky being out here alone, then you should go back home and don't worry about me" she responded , then brushed me aside with her left shoulder as she continued walking. I went after her again trying to stop her, she refused to listen to anything I said.

Then, I carried her forcefully from her waist and tried running back to my house. I couldn't bare the constant beating she gave me on my back as she struggled and requested I put her down. After three minutes, we got to my compound. I put her down and she yelled at me for being stubborn. The rain seem more intense this time and we were both wet, shivering and our teeth gnashing .

I knew we can't stay out there because of the cold. I decided we enter my room through the window because it had no burglary. I went in first and offered to help her in, she accepted. I decided to find her something to wear and a towel to dry herself because we can't stay wearing wet clothes. I had gone to the bathroom to change and came back, offered to give her one of my clothes to wear.

As soon as I came close, I couldn't resist what my eyes were capturing; she was with no shame of clothes, although it was dark but whenever the lightening flashed, I could see the endowment of the lady standing beside me. I was stilt , didn't know what to do, she came close to me, kissed me, pushed me on my bed and she followed afterwards. It was a special night indeed , a day with a happy ending.
