Part V

A couple of days passed, and Xin got better. It surprised him to see a brief text from Wu wishing him recovery, and he replied with a simple 'Thanks.'

Jessica had already gotten used to Xin's home and felt like nothing could ever go wrong there. As long as he was around.

Xin made his way to the kitchen and then wandered round, picking up things to make breakfast. His culinary skills only extended to toasts and cereal, so that's what he had to offer Jessica.

She woke up to the sounds of items from the kitchen and the smell of smoke coming out of a cigar. Her face closed in a grimace as she trudged to the kitchen, looking for Xin who left his blanket back on the sofa.

"Good morning"

He turned back, speechless as the stick hung loosely in his mouth. He quickly took it out, but had nothing to say in his defense.

"What are you doing?"

"Making breakfast for you. Good morning."
