Hu Wenxi studied the soul remnant of Sam carefully grasping every little detail he could identify. After carefully weaving around the core defences, the entire history of Sam was available for him to divine. As a True Immortal, his divination abilities have reached a terrifying height. Few things in the universe can hide from him anymore.
Hu Wenxi was unsurprised that Sam came from planet Earth or was it Terra. If it was his earth or not Hu Wenxi did not know. The emperor reincarnated from planet Earth many centuries ago, he could vaguely remember the details of that event.
He remembered going for his daily jog around the area of his home block when suddenly he couldn't feel the ground anymore. He remember somewhat seeing a distorted image above him and intense pain as he was thrown around left right and centre.
Before he knew it, he landed in a desolate black place. There he remembered medical professionals tending to him. This memory was hazy but looking back, Hu Wenxi though he had most likely landed none of the netherworld kingdoms.
This was because afterwards, Hu Wenxi met ghost like entities all dressed in rich minister robes who kept droning on about details he did not understand in a language he didn't comprehend. Before he could even respond he was suspended in liquid.
Hu Wenxi did not know why he kept his memories. Perhaps some incident occurred that allowed him special treatment. There were many legends about powerful Immortals 'convincing' netherworld officials to give exemptions to their friends and family members. Hu Wenxi's reincarnation was probably one such case.
That being said Hu Wenxi though that if he had really reincarnated properly, then earth should be aged at least by 500 years. However as far as Sam's memories go, earth was still in the year 2015. Hu Wenxi's memory of his past life was vague and lacked many details however he could remember graduating high school in 2020. That's why the emperor could not tell if this was an alternate earth or if there's some mechanism going on.
"Perhaps time travel?" Hu Wenxi did not rule out that possibility. It was possible that he had been displaced to the past due to whatever triggered his death. He always had an affinity with the temporal tao after all. Perhaps a portal was opened that had thrown him 500 years back in time?
However Hu Wenxi didn't have the power to time travel to that extent. He doubt even legendary figures of legends could. Time in the three realms was linear across all three planes of existence. Be it Heavenly realm, Netherworld, or the material universes time always flowed in a linear fashion.
Of course some anomalies exist where time is non linear and all events take place at once, but these areas were small and relegated to minute pocket dimensions. These dimensions could affect normal people but any decently strong cultivator can break out near effortlessly. Such time traps cannot affect them.
This actually bode true for any hacks like abilities, any sufficiently powerful cultivator with high mastery can negate hacks abilities that are too conceptual. Even Hu Wenxi, if he wished to time travel and interfere in the time stream would die from this attempt. If he did time travel, he could only observe past events and never interfere unless the Heavenly Tao allows him. Otherwise it would destroy him.
Do not take the Heavenly Tribulation as a representative of the full might of the Heavenly Tao. The Heavenly Tao was born from the Immemorial Grand Tao and tempered with the soul of Hongyun Laozu and completed by the three pure ones. The full might of the Heavenly Tao can kill any expert. Even the likes of the three pure ones will be severely harmed and they were nigh omnipotent.
The Heavenly Tao decided on the course of the world and controlled the Destinys of all beings be they living or dead. Only truely powerful beings who break through the Immortal Tribulation control their own destiny. Even then, major events are still decided by the Heavenly Tao. One will just need to look at history for such events.
The downfall of the three powers, the emergence of the fiends, the war between gods and demons, the battle of gods investiture, the entire journey to the west debacle, and the later god-fiend war are all examples of the Heavenly Tao influencing events to cause massive losses that would 'cleanse' the three realms of too many powerful beings.
Even as a True Immortal, Hu Wenxi was still recorded in the book of the dead. He still held a finite lifespan. He will need to be careful and cultivate successfully in the future to truely gain eternal life.
Hu Wenxi read further into Sam's life and living standards. He wasn't sure what he was expecting. Sam didn't even have the right to die by truck-san. Sam was a child, a 16 year old immature boy who was both antisocial and dreamed of being isekaied like those novels he loved so much. He spent majority of his free time away from school fantasising about these possibilities, reading fan fictions, hating on certain characters because everyone else seemingly did, and dreamed of owning a harem.
Hu Wenxi snorted, he might not remember everything but he still remembered his favourite past time, indulging in nerd culture. Hu Wenxi had seen many of the same shows Sam watched, unlike Sam the emperor didn't stop at surface level evaluations but dwelled deeper watching comprehensive character breakdowns on YouTube. Meanwhile Sam hated for a character e.g. Ron Weasley because everyone else did.
It seemed that eventually Sam got his wish. He was just sitting in his room reading fan fictions when he just woke up in a black room. But here is the weird part, Sam met an individual whom he called god. This 'god' made a deal with Sam to provide him entertainment and offered him several wishes.
Sam of course accepted and wished for over 20 different cheats but 'god' stopped him and instead combined the most important ones into a system for Sam to use. At this fact Hu Wenxi took out the golden orb.
The system Sam obtained gave him so many mystical abilities. With his cultivation Hu Wenxi could vaguely sense the intricacies of the Tao in the orb. However he could see that the system offered anime powers to Sam in exchange for points collected from demon cores. Sam had gathered these by massacring entire nations of demons with his OP starting point. He even had the gall of taking the tiger princess into his harem but still killed her fiancé, father, brother, childhood friend, and subjects to 'free her'. Of course freeing her entailed sharing brainwashing.
Hu Wenxi shook his head, "Your mind wasn't ready for this power". A cultivator's mind grew with his/her cultivation. It maintains the personality but also strengthens the mind to be able to both handle heavenly secrets but as well as making sure the cultivator doesn't go mad.
Sam's insane power boosts disrupted his mind. He was already insane before he got to the central continent. Hu Wenxi could see this happening as Sam did not in fact posses a cultivation base. All his power was thanks to the system and later 'god' who revived him as a ghost.
Hu Wenxi frowned. Despite his power he could not see through the 'god'. Even with a True Immortal cultivation, Hu Wenxi could not clearly see 'god' even from Sam's memories. It was as if some outside interference was blocking him.
Hu Wenxi could conclude that this 'god' was a very powerful individual. To be able to hide himself even within to memories of someone else required tremendous power over the Tao. This god wasn't likely another True Immortal or even a Profound Immortal. Perhaps only something of a much higher realm could do this as Hu Wenxi could not identify anything, no detail at all.
"Judging from the system, this expert is probably a mighty figure from the Heavenly realm" Hu Wenxi rubbed the golden orb. He was very anxious, what if Sam held value to that person and by killing Sam and blocking his entrance into the six paths of reincarnation Hu Wenxi had offended this person. He might even be killed.
Because of this Hu Wenxi held on to a small sliver of Sam's soul. This soul remnant was all that was left of Sam. Sam needed it to reincarnate successfully. While his true soul lied in the yellow river, this soul was the one that'll be whipped clean and reincarnate. The true soul was more of a record that he existed. Hu Wenxi cannot damage the true soul but by destroying the soul, he would effectively be killing Sam for good. The true soul can create another soul but that'll take a long time and that soul wouldn't be Sam anymore.
Knowing this Hu Wenxi contemplated erasing Sam for good. After a while Hu Wenxi concluded this. "No matter what happens, I'm probably screwed anyway" he gripped the soul of Sam hard. Cracks appeared o the soul spreading quickly across the entire spirit. It thrashed and screeched in pain but Hu Wenxi did not stop.
POOF!
The soul shattered, Hu Wenxi blew flames and completely disintegrated the soul until not a single fragment remained. He exclaimed, "No reincarnations this time". The emperor got up from his seated position and grabbed hold of the orb. He should definitely return it but he didn't know how to. He could definitely go to the Heavenly realm but that take him away from his empire and it really needed him here now.
What's more his other self had encountered unknown dangers and is probably lightyears from here. Hu Wenxi placed the orb on his desk and look at it helplessly, "You truely are a source of misfortune".
"Oh I wouldn't be so sure about that" a voice rang out behind the emperor.
'WHAT!' HU Wenxi hurriedly turned and around activating all his spells and weapons. His treasures appeared around him ready to attack. "My, Arn't we jumpy today" a figure appeared before the emperor. It was a middle aged sloppily dressed man.
This man wore a simple t-shirt, trousers, and had unkept black hair. He some stubs beneath his chin. What worried Hu Wenxi was that he couldn't see though this man at all. To the emperor's senses, this man might as well had been an invisible force. The only reason Hu Wenxi reacted was because he heard him and now saw him, every other sense was telling him there was nothing there.
"Relax buddy, not here to hurt you. I've already had my fair share of action" the man waved his arm nonchalantly. It was then that the emperor saw the blood on him. 'He was in a fight?'
"Damn right I was" he responded. Hu Wenxi's eyes widened, he had not spoken but this stranger had still heard him. "Look, I'm just here to retrieve my thing" he raised his arm and the golden orb flew towards him landing perfectly in his palm.
"Sorry for the mess, I wasn't trying to make a fiend. I though I programmed the ghost enough to do my bidding" the man put the orb away and scratched his apologetically. Seeing this Hu Wenxi relaxed somewhat and spoke "It wasn't made too well, you rushed it senior, even I a mere True Immortal could see that".
The man laughed nervously, "Really, my bad. I was being chased you see. I'm not supposed to be here and some enemies back home takes any chance they get". The man produced a necklace, "Take this as compensation, its not much but I owe you one. If the Heavenly Court had discovered that I made a fiend I'm screwed."
Hu Wenxi nodded his head in agreement, "You are that god that Sam mentioned yes?" He wanted to confirm this expert's identity. Was he perhaps a mythical figure of legends or use some bloke who called himself such. Could he possibly be YHVH?
The men scratched his chin, "I never claimed to be god, that Sam kid just called me that. Anyway I can't stay long, my home still needs me. This escapade had already taken too much of my time" he turned around to leave but Hu Wenxi called out one last time.
"Wait senior, could you have the honour of telling this taoist your name?" He humbly exclaimed, in this world it was better to be courteous to unknowns. The man looked surprised but answered back before fading in a silver light.
"Call me Perfected Anime"
