The Medical Records

Edgar soon arrived with his medical kit. Hanson watched as he took Kaia's pulse and checked her temperature. After inspection, Edgar gave his diagnosis.

"It's caused due to exhaustion Your Highness, there's nothing to fear. However, the Princess needs time to recuperate."

Hanson nodded at him, relieved that it wasn't serious.

"I will send the medicine to Her Highness and she will get better in a day or two depending upon her constitution."

Edgar spoke as he packed up his pieces of equipment. But before Hanson could reply Alexandra interrupted them.

"Pardon me Your Highness but there's something you should know."

Hanson did not get angry at her interruption and turned towards her silently telling her to continue.

Alexandra hesitated, making Hanson and also Calvin and Stefan who arrived some time ago quite surprised. She was not someone to dither so the matter must be quite concerning.

Although the three men were curious and a little restless, the women were calm and composed, save for the wavering in whether to let them know information or not. They cannot do so without the Princess' permission and currently, she is unconscious.

"Does this have something to do with the Princess' health?"

Alexandra turned towards Edgar who posed the question.

"Yes, but I cannot reveal it without Her Highness' consent." Alexandra looked conflicted. On one hand, it's the Princess' health, on the other hand, it's the Princess' trust. She couldn't choose to abandon either of them.

Hanson could understand her dilemma. He admired the trio's loyalty. Even the young girl by the Princess' side isn't reckless and knows what to say and what not to say to not bring any trouble to her lady. Seeing the way she held her Princess' hand anxiously, one would expect her to let her words run amok.

"Then just let Dr Weismann know. The information can be privy to just him and your people." Hanson suggested surprising everyone present.

He then turned to Edgar, "Just keep her records confidential, no need to let me or anyone else know."

Edgar gave a slight bow. "Alright then, Your Highness."

Alexandra nodded at Athena who brought forward a thick book with a brown leather cover. It had a golden lock with a keyhole securing it.

Hanson and the other three men, including Edgar were astounded.

"This is..." Edgar couldn't believe his eyes as this was the first time he saw a book with so many pages for a young royal at that. Even the Queen Mother and His Highness Peyton's medical records amounted to only one-fourth of the book and that's already a lot since the Royal family's records are usually extensive and plenitude.

He looked at Hanson again for confirmation and only after acquiring a nod did he reach out and receive the book.

Cynthia pulled out a locket from her clothes and opened it, revealing a key inside it. The locket was made of a metal alloy of copper and gold with a portrait of her parents on one side and her brother on the other side.

Cynthia picked up the key and handed it to Edgar.

"It's the key to the book" Alexandra explained.

Edgar nodded as he received it and turned to leave. "Then, I will soon send Her Highness her medicine"

Before Hanson could send him off, a raspy voice sounded surprising the people in the room.

"There is no need."

Hanson soon turned towards the bed and found that Kaia had her eyes open. He reached her in quick steps and immediately helped her sit up. Calvin dutifully handed a glass of water to him.

Hanson helped Kaia balance the glass as she slowly sipped the water and finished the glass. Hanson handed the glass to Athena who stood readily and turned back to adjust the pillows on the bed and helped Kaia lean back over the headboard.

Kaia felt exhausted, she was conscious since a little after Hanson entered her room but couldn't wake up. She knew Edgar would not have enough time to prescribe her medicine by reading her records so she felt the need to let him know. She was thankful she woke up in time but could already feel her consciousness slipping again.

"Dr Weismann, you can check the index in the book and there is a section which has the formulae for the necessary medicines, no need to go through the rest of the records unless it's necessary."

"As you wish, Your Highness." Edgar nodded.

He then paid his respects and took his leave immediately.

Hanson saw Kaia's eyes droop and helped her lie back down. He did not question her about anything or why she was hiding her records. He nor had the intention to do so in the future. Unless she decides on revealing them to him, he will not pry.

Kaia fell asleep immediately. She could vaguely feel someone staying by her side and changing the towel from time to time. She could also remember someone feeding her medicine. She felt like she had the rest that was long overdue.

After some time, Kaia slowly blinked open her eyes. It was mid-afternoon by the time she woke up. She had always had a faster recovery rate. If not for that she'd be dead years ago.

Just as she gained focus, Kaia received a surprise.

"You are awake?" A pleasant male voice sounded.

Hanson was leaning over her, with one hand on her other side and the other hand he used to balance his head as he peered at her while lying next to her.

He was still in his bathrobe. The robe slid open a little, just enough for Kaia to witness his smooth pectorals and polished abdominal muscles that looked as if they were perfectly carved out. His face was expressionless as always but his eyes held a hint of relief.

Kaia was not exactly a saint. Although she did not harbour any unspeakable thoughts towards Hanson, she still can't help but marvel at his beauty. She had only been attracted to Leortes in that way and she isn't someone who enjoys playing around. But she has to admit, Hanson has one of the best figures after Leortes.

She hated to acknowledge he was on par with her beloved.

Hanson noticed her gaze and raised his eyebrow at her. Kaia saw his expression and immediately blushed before burying herself in the blanket. She heard Hanson chuckle and blushed harder.

"Seems like you are feeling better, I will call your handmaidens in." She heard him say in mirth before she felt him get off the bed.

Just as he was about to walk out Hanson heard Kaia call him in a soft voice. "Your Highness."

He turned around and saw her peeking out of the sheets.

"Thank You."

Then he saw her hide under the blankets swiftly as if she was fleeing.

He held back his urge to laugh and only replied in a gentle tone.

"It is my duty, Princess."
