Too late

We prepared ourselves for a few more minutes, the ceremony was about to start. I was so happy for Gemma, another one of her wishes was about to come true. "Ready," I asked her for the last time.

When she nodded, I could see how nervous she was as her hands shook and the way her lips trembled. "I'm so happy for you." It was all I could say, but I hope it was enough to calm her down.

"Thanks." She mouthed to me, then she blew me a kiss, which I returned to her twice.

I signaled for the organizer to begin. The big oak door creaked opened and the beautiful spacious inside of the church was revealed to us. The pianist, on cue, began playing its soft melodies.
