"Mom? Can-can you see me?" I ask with hope and sadness in my voice. She does not react. She is just standing there, staring my way. Then I realize she is staring at the pencil moving in the air, all by itself. I move the paper closer to her so she can read it, but she takes several steps backwards. I slowly pick up the paper and show it face up to her. She reads the first few words at the top of the paper out loud.
"Mom, it's me, Casey!" she gasps loudly and tears well up in her eyes.
"This is all a dream! When did I go to sleep?" she says. She grabs her phone and call someone.
"Hallo? Lucy?" I hear my dads voice on the phone.
"Gerald? Something happened just now. I was making coffee and when I turned around a pencil was floating in the air by itself and busy writing something on the paper lying there and then it moved and then the paper floated in the air and at the top was written 'Mom, it's me Casey!' and now I don't know what to do!" she says in one breath as fast as she could taking a deep breath after.
"Lucy. It's your mind playing tricks on you. Just brush it off and go to bed to get some sleep. I will be home soon. I promise. I love you Lucy." and then he hangs up. He sounds so tired. Mom decided to sit down and read the letter out loud.
" Mom, it's me, Casey. I don't have time to explain how this is happening but I need your help. I was buried alive in the forest. Go find my body about 2 miles south of the cliff just outside the forest. Look for a pile of sticks. My body is just underneath. I love you mom. Sorry I left you so soon. Please hurry!"
Mom shakes her head as if to shake out of a nightmare. She starts crying like she knows it is the truth but does not want to except it. I step closer to her to comfort her, wishing I can make her feel that I am there. I go in for the touch with an open heart and open mind. Suddenly mom lifts her head at lightning speed giving me a fright. She felt it! She felt my touch!
"Oh Mom!" I say smiling from ear to ear.
