I roamed the party occasionally mingling with some of my peers, not really caring much about who I was interacting with. Bodies bumping into me at all moments as I tried to maneuver around the sweating bodies.
I looked over and saw the golden couple. Corbyn and Christina swaying to the loud music with drinks in their hands. Over by the corner I saw Naomi hugging Zach before he left for somewhere, and Jack's noodle head suddenly appeared out of nowhere, immediately looking for a cup of alcohol. Daniel was nowhere to be found, which got me kind of relieved. Gabe from across the room was sitting with the whole cheer squad, but looked up and winked at me.
Before I could even react a hand pulled me aside and I gasped a bit, "What?" I asked.
"Ella's done for," Jonah said as he ran his hand over his sweating hair, in a brisk manner. He wasn't even making eye contact, but rather looking around, for someone, I assume.
"What did she do now?" I rolled my eyes, already expecting her to have pulled something that would ruin our night. Heck even from the Halloween party, she got flat out drunk within the first 19 minutes and showed her boobs to the whole football team, and probably the entries male population at our school.
"Strip beer pong," he sighed.
"What the fuck?!" I exclaimed and walked outside to where the beer pong table was at seeing all of the dudes practically oogling at the sight of another female.
"Where is she?" I asked Jonah who was behind me looking around as well.
"Are you looking for Ella?" Another one of our peers asked. From what I remembered his name was probably Jake? Jackson? Jamie? I don't know but he was a well known prankster, ruthless as one would say. He made 14 subs quite, but can't leave the school as his family is a big donor.
"Yeah," Jonah said.
"Where did she go?" I asked. He only pointed towards the pool where she was holding a drink in her hand, wobbling.
"She's crazy, mumbling about liars, and shit. Totally ruined my mood," He scoffed as he left before Jonah could give him a black eye.
I didn't even get to thank the kid as I already was rushing over to her before he could finish his sentence,
"Ella," I called out. She turned and smiled, "Agnes hey!"
"Come over here, now!" Jonah bellowed. She only laughed and scoffed almost as she turned to walk even closer to the ledge and then downing the drink in her right hand, before she slowly fell in the pool. The glass shattered, and time stood still. I wasn't able to move until Jonah knocked some sense into me and made me move.
The splash was loud, causing people nearby to gasp in shock. My eyes widened as I pushed Jonah near the water, I tried to reach down to grab her hand, but my arm was just a couple of inches short. I looked over at Jonah and shouted, "Help her get out!"
He didn't waste any time trying his arm and just dove in, and every second that they weren't coming up my heartbeat quickened. Finally Jonah's head popped up and along with him was her unconscious body. I pulled her up as he pushed the lower half of her up into the deck.
"Is she breathing?" I asked. He leaned down and put his ear close to her nose, and heard nothing.
"No," he tried to push on her chest yet nothing was happening,
"Give her mouth to mouth," I exclaimed, and panicked. He quickly did what I said and soon enough she was coughing up the water in her lungs.
"Thank god," I sighed out and I tilted my head down and looked up at the girl who was slowly regaining consciousness.
"What happened?" Jack said while coming over quickly confused at the situation. "She was left alone? I thought Daniel was with her," Addison said.
"Where's Daniel?" Jonah asked, "Didn't he see or at least hear that his girlfriend almost drowned." He scoffed.
"Last time I saw him he was passed out upstairs drunk," he sighed.
I stood up looking at Jonah, "Take care of her, I'll be back," I walked into the large house and quickly made my way up the elongated staircase, maneuvering around the house as if I've known how to for my whole life.
I saw the loft hallways that they had and saw two figures. One laying flat while another on his phone clearly bored out of his mind.
"Zach." I called out, he looked up surprised.
"Oh hey Agnes. What's up-" He began to put his phone away and stood up to look at me clearer.
"Why are you both up here?" I asked.
"Daniel got way too drunk and passed out so he went up here, Jack and I took turns watching over him. You know how he gets-"
"Yes Zach, I know. But I thought he would be responsible enough to know his freaking limits!" I exclaimed. "He knows how she gets and yet he still leaves her like that!" I exclaimed.
"Like what?" He stood up letting Daniels' head fall onto the hard cushion with a small thud.
"She was too drunk," I exclaimed.
"Was she using again?" We looked at each other and I sighed out, "Probably. We've seen her like this before, what else could it possibly be?!" I exclaimed.
"Where'd she get them?" He asked looking at the window that overlooks the pool yard.
"There's hundreds of kids here, it's no question that one was bound to carry something," I sighed and ran my hands annoyingly across my dampened hair
"Daniel said something about them fighting before coming here," Zach inquired.
"Anything specific?" I asked.
"No-" I walked up to the snoring male and sat him up with much effort. I looked at his face and smiled, before my hand rang out in a stinging pain as it made contact with his cheek, to which he opened his eyes in shock.
"What the fuck? Agnes! What's going on?" He yelled out.
"Good morning, dipshit," I smirked at him.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"Oh I don't know, just for fun. Or it might be the fact that you are the idiot that left Ella alone tonight!" I yelled out.
"So? We've had so many parties and she's been drunk before. She said she could handle herself!"
"Is her getting wasted to the absolute limit, and trying to go swimming, handling herself?" I asked while crossing her arms.
"She didn't want to be near me, Agnes. I can't actually defy that or else it would be called some sort of harassment," He exclaimed standing up and glaring at me, "Look, If this is about you being jealous then don't try to play hero- " He exclaimed.
"She almost drowned, Daniel." His face has an expression of shock and disbelief, "She was on something again and you weren't there for her!" I scoffed.
"I didn't know," he sighed, "I didn't know that she would use it again" he sat down on the couch roughly as he put his head harshly on his hands, and began to shake his head, blaming himself.
"None of us did, Daniel," Zach said trying to reassure Daniel.
"But you still can't be complacent that she wouldn't use it, she loves those things, you out of everyone should know that best." I said.
"Okay I think you guys need to look outside-" Zach began before being cut off,
"Shut up Zach," we said before turning back to look at each other.
"What do you mean?" He asked, getting cut off by Zach's phone ringing, he looked at me, while I just gave him a "answer-it-look" as I rolled my eyes.
"Hello? Yeah. I'll be there hold on," he hung up the phone and quickly looked at me.
"What?" I asked him annoyed at the fact that out of every scolding moment I had, he had to ruin this one.
"Corbyn called, said that something happened downstairs," he muttered.
"What happened?" Daniel asked.
"They started asking around, and some of the lower classmen said they saw who gave it to who gave her the drugs," he began.
"Who gave it to her then?" Daniel asked again.
"Agnes you probably won't like this but-"
"Just fucking say it dude!" Daniel exclaimed, getting fed up with this conversation that kept buffering.
"Well," He paused looking over at me, as I gave him a look og 'go on', "Manny did apparently." He sighed.
"What?!" I exclaimed, "There is no way that he would do that, he is a good person," I muttered as Daniel already was preparing his rebuttal. I could practically see the steam coming out of his ears in so much anger.
"Good people can still give out drugs if they feel like it, Agnes. You haven't even known him for more than half a year, how would you know if he's a good guy or not?" Daniel asked me, now angry with me as well.
Suddenly loud screams were heard downstairs.
