I walked back inside quickly making my way towards my locker, just in time for the bell to ring indicating that the first period was over. I sighed and looked deeply into my locker for a while before getting into my senses and getting my stuff.
"Well if it isn't Baby Herrera, as the new kids would call you," I turn around at the voices and see the familiar faces of people I had trusted before.
Calvin still looked the same, having the same brown quiff that we used to see with Zayn Malik back in 2010, standing smug, the type of smug that you would see when someone wanted to appear confident, even if they aren't. The other one next to him as well had appeared, but as Henry looked at me he tried to avoid eye contact, and desperately tried to focus on something else as he coughed the fake cough. His dirty blonde hair was fading slowly turning into brown, his height increased, but still had a baby face that he could never grow out of.
I stood silent, looking them in the eyes as if it was death staring straight back at me. Taking a short breathe before looking straight and dead.
"What's wrong Agnes? Don't you remember us?" Henry asked tauntingly.
"How could I forget? You guys made our lives absolute hell. Broke us up, left me to hang dry, how could I possibly forget you,"" I glared and walked past them slowly.
"Well if I remember correctly, you did that yourselves." Calvin said. "You broke yourselves up, and come to think of it, wasn't it you that broke away first? Didn't you leave us to hang dry, and to fend for ourselves?"
I turned and looked at both of them who were slightly closer than before, "We didn't do anything. I didn't do anything. And I chose to believe the things that were wrong. But I never did anything wrong. "
"Exactly." Henry smiled, "Nothing,"
"What the fuck are you guys trying to get at, by messing with us?" I asked.
"We aren't messing with anyone," he continued.
"We're just getting even," Calvin smirked, "Maybe even go back to what we had before we were forced to leave," He looked at me as they walked away in the opposite direction.
The guilt, apprehension, the sting, every profound feeling that could be felt heaved into my heart. Remembering all of the things that I tried to forget, all the jabs, stabs, or whatever you want to call them just hit me, all over again.
I shrugged off the feeling before walking into English, finding that I didn't want to sit with Jonah, and Daniel was even out of the question. Gabe was happily sitting with new people, and I didn't want to disturb. So I chose the next best thing. I chose to sit next to the curly haired girl,
"Hey Agnes." She greeted before continuing to read her book.
"Hey," I spaced off before Manuel came in and announced something. "How's Manny holding up?" I asked.
"He got wasted and high at this friend's house, he forgot all about it, as usual," she chuckled.
"Maybe that's for the better," I sighed out. "How are you holding up?" She asked me.
"Better. Better than that night, but it's still a lot to process." I mumble.
"Yeah, I get it," She rubbed my back comfortingly, "You'll eventually get through this, trust me. It just takes more time."
More time- more time to heal always means more time to feel.
"Students, we are pleased to announce that we have returning students," he looked towards the door and there they came. I looked across from me as Jonah had his fists clenched and Ella seemed calm, "Henry Vintono, and Calvin Muñoz. Please take a seat." He continued.
Henry made his way over to Jack, as Calvin made his way to sit next to Addison.
"They were the students who won the grant to go to school abroad for 2 years, but now they're back. For the school year this time, not the semester." My eyes widen as I could imagine the bullshit that we're going to go through because of the extension of their visit.
"Won," a voice scoffed from behind me.
"What was that Mr.Seavey?" Manny asked.
"Won the scholarship? More like you felt so bad for them because they were poorer than dirt." He said while scoffing
"Daniel," I exclaimed as I turned to face him. "Stop," He could only look at me as he rolled his eyes and leaned back.
"Mr. Seavey, that is very rude, apologize." Manuel furrowed his eyebrows, suddenly remembering the big scuffle that they got into freshman year.
Daniel and Jonah wanted to hit Calvin and Henry for some stupid reason, and during the fight Daniel hit and attacked Manuel as he thought that he was Calvin. He was caught off guard which then resulted in multiple injuries, even reaching as far as being absent for a month due to his needed recovery. It almost got him expelled, but of course strings were pulled and he came off scratch free.
"No I refuse to," he stood up and looked over at them, "They don't deserve to go to this school. None of the scholarship students do. They're a waste of time!"
"They have every right to be here just as much as we do, Daniel." Zach exclaimed.
"Right? Their rights are only limited to where they belong," Addison interjected.
"And where is that exactly?" I asked.
"Back to the gutters, trash-filled, homelessness, and alcoholic-druggies place that these five came from!" She continued.
"That is not fair. Not all of them come from a place like that," Zach interjected.
"And how would you know that Zach?" Daniel asked the younger from his desk.
"I got to know who they are, and where they're from. They may not have much, but they come from a good place of heart." he argued.
"Is that why they gave us-"
"Daniel stop," Corbyn said as he held out his arm to stop Daniel from saying something that all of us would've regretted.
"They only got in because Ella's mom wanted to help a charity case! Not based on their own merits, and it sucks that everyone is just letting them take over like this." He exclaimed loudly.
It's true Ella's mom was the principal, and she had a soft heart for underprivileged kids because she believes that everyone deserves an opportunity for a great education. Which is true. But there are so many other options other than Isla, why would anyone choose Isla, over somewhere?
"Like what? We are learning and trying to stay out of your guys' way but you keep dragging us into your petty drama," Naomi interjected.
"Petty drama-" He scoffed, "We are only protecting what's ours. Don't take Mrs.Fernandez's offer too graciously," He scoffed.
"Since you like talking about her, you may go and see her for the rest of the period, which you wasted with conversations not meant to be in the classroom." Manny said as he pointed towards the door indicating for him to go, to which he complied with.
"If anyone else has something to say about this then you may choose to follow your classmate." He looked around for a second before turning around.
Suddenly seats were heard screeching backwards, which caught his, and as well as my own attention.
Jonah, along with Corbyn, Jack, Christina, and Addison stood and began walking out. He looked at me for a second expecting me to join, but I merely looked away. As did Zach, and Ella.
"Fine," he shrugged and glided along.
"Now if we can get back to what I was saying," Manny's voice trailed off in my head as I saw then through the window walking down the halls all banded together, while some of us didn't know what to do.
It's hard to choose between my friends, and between what's right. I am doing what's right, right?
