Walking up to a once happy household was something I used to do so much. Every week, every minute, every second I wanted to run up and down these steps to play with Ella, but walking up to her front lawn after two years is something that I admit, I wouldn't have ever imagined myself doing on my own accords.
Alongside me was Daniel and Jack as we wanted to support our friend. Also known as Daniel forcing Jack and I to go to her house to check on her, as everyone else was subsequently unavailable on this specific day.
"You guys ready?" Daniel asked.
"What else can we be?" I asked sarcastically, while smiling at him. He scoffed and softly knocked on the door and then answered Esther, their maid.
"Hello kids come on in, I'm assuming that you're here for Ella?" She asked, smiling as we entered the door.
"We were actually looking for her mom, but yeah her as well." Jack smiled brightly.
"Well, they're in the living room," We all smiled politely before walking away,
The smudges of shoes being drug out were evident, as well as scuff marks on their plain white walls. Some of the vases were broken and pieces of them were all over the floor. The large family portrait was tilted.
"Agnes, Daniel, Jack, I've missed you three," Kaitlyn Fernandez said as she hugged us all one by one and tried her best to smile.
She was a long, blonde haired woman who doesn't look a day over 35, though she was turning 57. She had always welcomed us with open arms despite her being busy. Something that I always admired, even if she was far away she still had time to even talk to Ella and her siblings. Though her siblings, Ethan and Emilo, who studied microbiology, and biochemistry, at Harvard Medical School. Which means they are often on different sides of the country, therefore they aren't here. Which was probably for the better as they weren't really that fond of us.
"We came as soon as we heard. Are you alright" Daniel began.
"Anything we can do to help?" I asked.
"$50000 would be great," she laughed and it faded after she saw our concerned expressions, "I'm just kidding." She waved off.
"It's been rough but I would just appreciate you being here for Ellania right now, she's very fragile. It must hurt her to hear this news," she looked over softly at her youngest child before walking away. "I mean she may seem as if she detests her father, but I know deep down she cares."
We saw Ella standing off near the side of their sliding door that led to their small, outside, pool. She held her phone in hand, seeming to be very distracted. Her eyebrows were furrowed as she seemed to not notice our presence.
"Ella!" Daniel exclaimed, catching her attention.
"Daniel what're you all doing here?" She looked up from her longing gaze out, and came near us.
"We came to see how you're doing?" Jack said as he patted her shoulder, "This isn't an easy time-"
"You all know I could care less," she muttered. It's true she never really loved her dad like that, he was a burden to her as he was to him. Though they weren't like that back in the day, contrary to popular belief, they were as close as two peas in a pod.
"We know," I said.
"Then why bother coming here?" She raised an eyebrow at us.
"You need to convince your dad that Zach and Addisons parents aren't guilty." I proclaimed.
"Again with this talk?" She crossed her arms and stared at me as if I had three heads, "Look I already had this conversation with Addi, and once again I'm gonna ask why on earth would I do that?" She asked me.
"You got your revenge, but they didn't deserve to be snitched on just like that," I reasoned.
"Revenge? Is that what you all think this is? Revenge as in the ones that are used in playing games?!"
"What else could we possibly think this is, aside from that." Jack muttered.
"Well no this is not revenge. I am simply doing what's right," she huffed, "I'm not letting those thousands of people be affected by what he did. That's not me."
"Not you? What are you?" I asked angrily. "At this point who do you believe in or what do you even believe in?"
"I'm not a monster, you if all people I thought would understand," she glared at me. "You had the most issues with us being fair and right with each other, and I am simply doing the same."
"I understand you completely. But getting your family involved is a whole other thing, but getting other people's families involved, is a whole other ball game that I will fight you for." I said seriously.
"We're talking about our parents. Our parents who helped raise you as well, parents that helped you whenever you needed it!" Jack exclaimed.
"Your moms pushing claims on all of our families, and it's not fair!" I said angrily but quietly enough for the adults to not notice.
"Agnes is right. Our parents will always be separated from our inner circle fights. Josh and Clien don't deserve to rot, after they saved their children's futures." Daniel said quietly from next to her.
"Yeah of course she's right," she mumbled.
"What?" Daniel asked.
"You always agree with Agnes, but on this issue, where you know it means the most to me," She looked at him angrily, " It hurts that you can't even try to side with me,"
"Ella I-"
"What's done is done. I can't change what the verdict will be, I'm sorry." She sighed out a bit too much, but regardless she walked away from us as we were left standing next to each other waiting for one of us to say something.
"She'll come around guys, just give her some time-" Daniel stated.
"Time?" Jack asked.
"We don't have time, Daniel." I sighed out, "Their parents are going to be prosecuted before the week is over! Over something that they might've not even done!"
"Who knows when our parents are next?" Jack exclaimed.
"She's not that dumb to sacrifice our friendship over her new found relationship with Gabe and them, she's not like that-"
"What makes you so sure?" I asked.
"She turned on her own flesh and blood. How hard is it to turn on us then?" Jack asked.
"She'll come around. I know it. She's a good person." He muttered.
"What good person would put everyone at risk, even us. Don't you get it? Our futures will be completely different if all of our parents end up getting jailed!"
"She's probably only messing with us-"
"What type of joke is this?!" Jack exclaimed.
"Why are you trying so hard to protect her like this? This is not a situation that she can be acquitted for, she has to take responsibility for this!"
"I know that Nes!" He exclaimed, "But she is just not in the right state of mind right now, we have to understand that-"
"I understand that Daniel, but someone has to either put her in her place or help her. We can keep condoning her like this. This is too much," Jack said.
"You know Daniel, your girlfriends a bitch." I sneered as I walked away towards the door,
From behind me I heard Jack mumble, "I agree with her on this one pal," he patted Daniels shoulder before walking to catch up with me.
"Agnes," he had stopped me by the shoulder, and quickly pulled me aside as the police came in to talk to Mrs.Fernandez and even Ella herself.
"What Jack?!" I exclaimed as I ran a hand through my hair in frustration.
"Calm down," he took my hands away from me almost scratching my hair out, and looked me in the eye, "This isn't going to go away if we're rash about it, the only thing we can do now is try to help out Addison and Zach as much as we can," he sighed and pulled me away towards his ride.
"How are we going to do that?" I asked
"Well- I don't know but we have to do something, we can't just sit here and do nothing," He said.
"Where are we going?" I asked as we drove off and he quickly made a quick left turn, that made me almost hit the window.
"To Zach's" he said, while smirking a bit as he revved up the engine.
Off to find another situation that we were not really preferred, expected, or really wanted to even think of.
