She understood her boyfriend's situation, so she stayed by his side no matter what. She helped him plan the murder. She was more of the brain of this plot while Richard was more of the handyman.
"Are you sure about this?" Richard asked, feeling skeptical of her plan.
"Yeah. As part of the plan, I will seduce the prince, befriend him until I gained his trust. Then, we will lure him to your friend's yacht and execute the plan," she said with confidence.
"I want it done quickly," Richard commented. He was very eager to finish the job so that he could move on with his life. So, he was hurrying her.
"Patience, babe. Good things come to those who wait," she reminded.
They had two months to carefully lay their scheme to perfection. It became quite easy because the untouchables financed their operation. But when they asked about the reason why they wanted him dead, they told them to dig no more or they will follow the prince to his grave.
After hearing about Prince Liam's holiday trip, Ana saw it as a chance. She planned a week-long holiday with her friends while Richard will be on the lookout. But she underestimated him. She wasn't expecting the prince to be so clever. But how did he know about it? If Richard wasn't the one who told him, who did it? Knowing that their operation was a top-secret, they made sure that only they knew about it. They were very careful not to give anyone a clue.
"What are you planning to do now, Mevious?" she whispered as she buried her face in her palms.
"What are you doing here?"
Ana jolted at the cold voice that spoke, bringing her back from her deep memories. Then she turned to the direction where the voice came from and saw Mevious emerge from the darkness. The sight was comical in her mind. Mevious the devil, appearing from the dark. How metaphoric!
"As if you even care," she hissed, seemingly clueless about the aftershock of her rowdiness. He chuckled as he moved closer towards her. He might be smiling but his pale blue eyes were intimidating. Impulsively, Ana tried to run away from him and by doing so she accidentally left her sandals. Stupid as it sounded, Ana sprinted following the trail she saw a while ago. She looked pathetic as she endured the rough ground and kept running blindly in the dark.
"This is pointless, Ana!" Mevious shouted, along with his crazy laughter. She could feel him chasing her, teasing her, and confusing her like prey.
She ignored his manic laughter and kept running. Rocks pierced the sole of her feet. She could feel them bleed. Also, the cold sea breeze started to numb her fragile body. But she was determined. Her escaping from him seemed bleak nevertheless she kept moving.
She jolted when she heard his voice. "You know, you can't run away from me, Ana. We are on an island. And everyone here works for me," he shouted. Realizing it, Ana started crying. She was exhausted. Her body wanted to stop but her mind disagreed.
Then... a piercing scream disturbed the quiet island. Ana tripped and fell on the rocky ground, leaving abrasions on her arms and knees. Her peeled skin stung. She twitched as she tried to lie on her back. She was cursing aloud due to the excruciating pain.
"Are you happy now?" she said when Mevious arrived.
He raised his brow as he looked down at her. "Do you hear me laughing?" he replied nonchalantly.
"Just leave me to die. Living with you means death, so what's the point of being alive," Ana exclaimed. She was trying to stay focused despite the physical and emotional pain she was experiencing.
"If you really want to end your life, why didn't you just jump off the cliff? Why do you tire yourself from this foolish running?" he mocked. She didn't know what to say because he was right.
"Stand up," he said calmly, extending his hand to her. She looked at it. Her face furrowed at his gesture. Was he nice? Or he's luring her to her demise? "Stand up," he repeated. Now, with a threatening firmness in his voice. Ana knew the danger that she was in so went along with it.
"Put me down. I can walk," Ana exclaimed when Mevious suddenly lifted her in a lover's carry. Instead of putting her down, he pulled her closer to him. With her body being so close to his chest, she could hear the beating of his heart, and she could smell his masculine scent that tickled her senses and eased her pain.
She became aware of his presence, even imagining him on top of her. She felt horrified and ashamed so she closed her eyes to stop herself from falling into his fatal charm. When she opened her eyes, they were back at the cabin. He carefully put her down on the sofa.
"Don't move... and don't even think of running away," he warned.
"Do I have a choice?" she replied.
"You do. Kill yourself now," he smirked. She was mortified. "I will be right back!"
Ana followed him as he went inside his room. She suddenly put off the heavenly sensation she was feeling for him moments ago. It was clear to her again that he brought her here to torture, both emotionally, and physically.
After a while, Mevious came with a medicine kit and a dishpan with water. He kneeled in front of her. "Let me those," he said checking her scratches that were still aching and began cleaning her wounds with water. Ana shuddered every time the cold water touched her skin but she kept her cool.
"What's that?" she nervously asked when Mevious opened the medicine kit and took out an ointment and a syringe.
"That's a funny reaction from someone who a while ago threatened to die," he teased. Ana felt her cheeks turned scarlet. "Don't worry, Ana. This is just a painkiller for you to sleep better."
"There's no way you're gonna inject that in me," Ana protested. "You're not even a doctor."
Mevious smirked. "I am a self-trained doctor and I can assure you that I'm even better than other doctors out there," he boasted. Ana felt worried even more. Then Mevious looked at her straight with his cold eyes and said, "You dared plan to kill me but you didn't even do your research."
Ana was left speechless.
