THE ID CARD

IN FRONT OF THE PRINCIPAL' S OFFICE

Mya found it quiet difficult to get their words and voices clearly since the voice was no longer high pitched like earlier when she heard the yell.

" why are their voices so low", she cried as she struggled to get a better and clearer recording.

Just then, a sudden touch from behind made her jerk up, dropping her books and phone in the process.

"Oh, no.... ", she gasped.

Mr. Hansel with the boys, Ben, Fred and Patrick got tensed by the sound at the door. The room suddenly fell dead silent that a droplet of water could even be heard.

They glanced at each other with questioning looks which just read, "Were you expecting someone?".

Mr. Hansel instinctively spoke up, knowing well what the looks on their faces meant.

" I wasn't expecting anyone because I actually cancelled every meeting and appointment just to take care of your deeds! ". He roared, settling back in his chair with an upset and confused look.

Their fixed gazes suddenly fell back to the door as if the person was gonna walk right through the door in no time.

" Will you just stand, staring at the door?", Mr Hansel eluded. " Come on, go check who it is so as to know if he/ she heard us or not– so we'll know what to do with him/ her". He furiously added.

Patrick, Ben and Fred jolted, fidgeting with panic written all over their faces.

"I'll go find out". Ben mumbled.

Mr Hansel gazed at his back with a brooding glare, his back leaned on his chair. He scoffed,

" Such a baby I got as a son– Can't believe this. He's nothing like me". He eluded.

***********

Mya instinctively turned around towards whoever it was only to find Mrs Pearl, the assistant Principal, wearing quite an astonished look.

"Uhmm, Mrs Pearl? ", Mya cried with a nervous and sheepish smile as she crunched down to gather her stuff from the floor.

"Didn't know you were here", she stuttered without looking face up.

"Oh, sorry for taking you off guard, Mya. Didn't know you'll flinch in such a manner". She eluded as she helped her out with her stuff.

" Here you go", she mumbled, handling over her phone to her. " It looks quiet damaged– I guess you got to see a repairer".

"Thank you". Mya quickly grabbed it from her, nervous. Without much words, she gathered up the rest of her stuff.

Mrs Pearl gazed at her, wearing a calculative look.

" I guess you were here to see the Principal– Is everything alright?". She queried, quiet curious , trying to lay fingers on what she was actually doing at the door.

Mya instinctively gazed up at her face, fidgeting as she avoided her eye contact.

" Nothing, Ma'am." she mumbled, rising on her feet. "Got to go now – had something urgent to attend to". She faked an excuse and sped off before Mrs Pearl could say anything further, dropping her ID card in the process without notice.

"Damn it, now I got a phone to repair– such bad luck". She whispered underneath her breath as her back faded away.

Mrs Pearl just gazed at her back and sighed. "Hope all is well with her". She scoffed and trod off to her office which was directly opposite Mr. Hansel's.

The door slowly cracked open and Ben's face came through. He lurked around but found no one at the door, just a few students at a distance which clearly shows they weren't the one.

He looked a bit confused, "I'm sure I heard a voice or?", he mumbled in his thoughts. But the surrounding actually shows the opposite. He instinctively shoved off his thoughts with a shrug and turned to leave, just then, something caught his attention. He saw an ID card a step away from the door.

" What do we have here", he whispered underneath his breath as he crunched down for it.

"Who is it, Ben?", Mr. Hansel queried from the office.

Ben slowly picked up the ID card and trod back in with his eyes fixed on it as he kept examining.

"Actually, there was no one there but I found this ID with the name Mya Roberts". He answered, handling over the ID to him.

" What?". Mr Hansel exclaimed. Fred and Patrick just gazed on, trembling with fear and frustration.

"This can't be good", they low whispered.

" Guess you know who she is and what it means, dad". Ben added, totally drenched out in fear.

Mr Hansel swiftly took the ID from him with a tensed look. " Mya Roberts?", he eluded, rising to his feet.

His face suddenly went blank, his hands squeezed into a fists. "I knew she was up to something the moment she stepped into this school". He added turning back to Ben and his friends, all furious with a red face.

" You all know this can't be good especially when its Mya. I'm sure she heard something and I need you to take care of this, else, we'll all go down when the truth comes out".

He explained. Ben and his friends nodded their approval.

" Good– I'll give you just two days. Get rid of her and make sure you leave no traces. Hope I'm clear".

"Yes, sir", Fred and Patrick chorused.

"Sure, dad. I promise this time, I'll take good care of everything ". Ben assured.

"Good, you may leave now". He gave a dismissive wave of his hand and they glided out of the office, wearing calculative looks.

Mr Hansel slammed his hand on the table, his chest rose and fell with rapid breaths as he brooded over Mya.

" You'll never leave to tell the story, Mya, and that's a promise ".

He let out a harsh breath and rested back in the chair with closed eyes. He slowly leaned back while he kept massaging the back of his neck to calm himself.

Mya got to the teachers stuff room. She quickly dropped her documents in the drawer and picked up her bag, storming off in the process. Ben and his friends searched everywhere earnestly for her but had no sign.

Just when they took a turn to the stuff room, they saw her trod out in a rush.

"There she is", Fred eluded. Ben snarled with a mischievous glare.

"Let's go", he eluded.

They slowly paced after her as she sped down the hallway towards the parking lodge. Mya took a few turns down the stairs but felt someone following her. She swiftly turned back to verify but found no one. Ben and his friends quickly hid behind the pillars.

She lurked around for awhile and then shrugged after still no sign of anyone.
