ALEX'S POV
"Mom! Kenzie's Mom is here!" I shouted as I was getting my shoes on at the front door.
"Okay! Have fun at Kenzie's. Call me if you need me, alright? I love you, baby girl." Mom said as she kissed my forehead.
"Okay. I love you too." I quickly hugged her goodbye and ran out to the car.
"Hello, Alex." Melissa greeted me.
"Hi, Mrs. Gisoni." I replied. Kenzie's last name is Ziegler but her Mom got remarried to someone else apparently.
"Call me Melissa, sweetheart." She smiled as we drove to their place. I nodded and just stayed quiet. We arrived and I instantly ran into their house and up to Kenzie's room.
"BABE!" Kenzie shouted once she saw me run into her room.
"I MISSED YOU!" I pretended to cry.
"Y'all are so dramatic." Madison, Kenzie's sister, said as she walked past her door. We broke out in laughter as we laid down on her bed. Maliboo jumped up on Kenzie's bed and instantly started licking my face. If you didn't know, Maliboo is their dog.
"I missed my girlfriend so much!" I joked, talking about the dog as I held Maliboo in my arms.
"Hey!" Kenzie pushed me off the bed and I laughed. We spent about three hours talking about random stuff. Then she started talking about how amazing her stepdad is.
"What is your dad like?" She asked looking over at me. What do I tell her? Does she not know I don't have a dad? That my father was an abusive prick?
"Uh.." I struggled to talk. My breathing started going unsteady. Please.. not another panic attack. "I-I can't b-breathe." I let out a strangled sob as I tried to gasp for air.
"Fuck!" Kenzie exclaimed as sat in front of me and pulled out her phone.
DEMI'S POV
"Max! I'm trying to make cookies!" I laughed as Max kept trying to kiss me.
"They're going to fail anyways, babe." He casually replies.
"Hey! I've gotten better at cooking!" I defended myself.
"Mhm.. if ya say so." He smirked and I playfully punched him. I heard my phone go off and saw messages from Kenzie.
Kenzie: Demi. We need you.
Demi: What's wrong? Why do you need me?
Kenzie: It's urgent.
Kenzie: Alex is having a panic attack and I don't know what to do.
Demi: Try and get her breathing normal okay?
Kenzie: She said she wants you.
Demi. Okay. Max and I are on our way.
Kenzie: Please hurry.. she locked herself in the bathroom.
Demi: Fuck!
Demi: We're almost there
"Max! We need to go to Kenzie's!" I exclaimed as I quickly got ready.
"Why do we need to go there?" He asked as we got in the car.
"She's having a panic attack." I started. "She just locked herself in the bathroom!"
I rushed straight inside without knocking.
"Kenzie?! Alex?!" I shouted.
"Up here!" Kenzie shouted back. I ran upstairs as Kenzie was desperately trying to open the lock to the bathroom. I could hear Alex's loud sobs and wheezing from outside.
"Where are you parents?" I asked quickly.
"They left for the store thirty minutes ago." Kenzie replied.
"Alex, can you open the door? It's Mommy, baby girl." I spoke gently. I moved Kenzie aside and I picked the lock open. I have my ways.
"M-Mama, I'm s-s-sorry..." Alex whimpered as she held her arms against her body. It didn't do a very great job at hiding her bloodied wrists.
"W-Why did you do it?" I asked, trying to sound calm.
"I-It's my fault t-that he's d-dead. I-I killed my birth f-father. I-It's all my f-fault!" She screamed and cried.
"Breathe, Alex." I stated quietly as I pulled her into my embrace. Kenzie went into a drawer in the bathroom and pulled out a first aid kit. "Look at me. Breathe in... breathe out."
"I-I can't, Mama." She cried out. Max dug in my purse and handed me her inhaler. I mouthed 'thanks' to him and gave Alex her inhaler.
"Deep breath in and deep breath out. Good job, baby girl." I cooed as she got her breathing back to normal. "We have to clean your cuts."
"C-Can you sing to me after?" She asked quietly. I agreed and turned on the sink water.
"It might sting, baby." I spoke as I gently held her wrists under the water. She made a face of discomfort and tried to hide it. My poor baby.
"A-Are you done yet?"
"Almost. We just have to bandage them." I replied as I bandaged her arms. When we were done I picked her up and placed her on my hip. She feels so much lighter and it scares me. Kenzie led me to her room and I sat down on her bed while still holding Alex. Max and Kenzie both sat down too. This seems like some cliche fanfiction, but this is real life.
"Can you sing now?" She asked quietly.
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged, oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
The darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy
Can't remember when
I last saw you laughing
This world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
Just call me up
'Cause I will always be there
And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
I see your true colors
Shining through (true colors)
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful (they're beautiful)
Like a rainbow
Oh oh oh oh oh like a rainbow
Ooh can't remember when
I last saw you laughing
Ooh oh oh oh
This world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
Just call me up
'Cause I will always be there
And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid (don't be afraid)
To let them show your true colors
True colors are beautiful (you're beautiful, oh)
Like a rainbow
Oh oh oh oh oh like a rainbow
Mmm mmm
At the end Alex has fallen asleep.
"That was so fucking cliche." I joked and laughed quietly.
"I guess we should get going now." Max suggested. I nodded and Max gently picked up Alex.
"Can you have Alex text or call me when she wakes up?" Kenzie practically begged.
"Of course." I smiled. Max, Alex, and I walked outside to the car. Well, Alex was being carried because she's asleep.
"I'm going to get in the back with her, babe." I said as I opened the back door of the car. Max carefully put her in the back seat and I got in on the other side. I gently laid her head on my lap and moved some hair out of her face.
"What's going on in that pretty little head of yours, baby girl?" I whispered quietly as we drove back to the house. Mission Impossible: Make My Daughter Happy.
