CHAPTER 6 : NOT-SO FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

Nat's POV

I wake up to find my alarm buzzing and telling me that it's the first day of school.

Yes, I start school today.

I had been admitted to the hospital for a week and then told to rest for another.

My pre-vacations ended yesterday and now it's time to face reality.

All the students have been lied to and informed that I fell from the staircase pretty hard and landed on my stomach which caused my ribs to break. The school authorities actually acknowledged this excuse and not only gave me leave but also sent their good wishes.

I take a shower and change into a pair of T-shirt and shorts.

I stand in front of the mirror and try to do something with my face and of course, nothing works so I end up applying the good old lip gloss.

I pull my hair in a messy bun and take out my bag from my wardrobe.

I put the books inside it according to my time-table.

"Nat?" my mother calls me.

"Coming!" I reply and stuff my phone in the pocket of my shorts, wear my shoes and rush towards the living room.

"I'm late!" I say as I enter the room.

"The first day of school and you couldn't even bother to set an alarm," my mother says and facepalms herself.

I roll my eyes at her and sigh.

"Where's my breakfast?" I ask her.

"Oh was I supposed to make it?" she replies and I sigh in disbelief.

"Okay! No breakfast for me today then," I say and get out of that god-damned house.

I take out my car keys from my car and sit inside it.

"I'm hungry," I groan and rub my stomach.

I take out my purse from my bag and check how much money it has.

200 dollars.

"Good enough!" I happily exclaim and start the car.

It takes me ten minutes to reach the nearest departmental store and another ten minutes to reach the school and park my car.

I'm thirty minutes late but everyone's outside anyway so that means no class for me right now.

"Nat!" I hear people exclaim as soon as I get out of my car.

"You're here!" Nina, a great friend of mine, exclaims and rushes towards me.

"Yes," I reply to her and she grabs my arm.

"I have missed you so much! A lot happened since you left!"

"Uh hunh?"

"Yes like for starters Katherine finally stopped hitting on Bryce!"

"Wow"

Katherine's the school whore and Bryce is the hottest guy in the school.

"He looks gay to me"

"Cause he is! Bryce found that out when he was inside Katherine. I mean how gross can this get?"

"She deserved it"

"I know, right? She didn't even stop hitting on Nick when you were dating him. Speaking of Nick! Why did he leave school?"

"He left school?" I ask in horror.

"You didn't know?" she asks and looks confused.

"Oh, we broke up"

"I'm glad you did! He was a jerk anyway," Nina says and tries to make me feel better about him.

"He is one" I reply and we continue our rambling till the bell rings.

"I gotta go. I have chem right now. See you later?"Nina says and leaves.

"Sure!" I say to her and she turns around and smiles.

She's an angel.

She's the only person who cares about me--

Not the only one.

Maybe.

Leo cares for me too.

I guess.

We just started talking yesterday and he's really nice.

"If it isn't the famous Nat!" I hear someone exclaim and stands in front of me.

"Katherine! What a displeasure!" I say and stand up to.

"The displeasure's all mine," she says and crosses her arm in front of me.

"Heard a lot about you," I say to her and start laughing.

"About Bryce? Ugh, it ain't true!" she squeals.

"Sure," I reply and turn to leave.

"Heard a lot about you too," she says and I come to a halt.

"Like?" I ask her and turn around to face her.

"Nick dumped you?" she says and starts laughing.

This bitch!

I thought she actually knew something.

"Get a life," I say to her and continue walking towards my next class.

"You get a life!" Katherine calls out and I shake my head in return.

Up till now, I actually thought that Katherine had it all but I now realize that she's just immature and nothing else.

My classes go in a blur and not too soon it's time to leave.

"Wanna have coffee with me?" Nina asks me as we step out of our last and only class together.

"Sure. I have nothing else to do anyway," I say to her and she smiles happily at me.

Half an hour later, we sit in a small booth that serves amazing coffee.

"This is really good," Nina says for the hundredth time and I nod in approval.

"So how's everything?" Nina asks me.

"Fine. I don't really know," I say with a sigh.

"Why did you and Nick break up?"

Well, you know, he tried to kill me at least 5 times and his beloved brother died saving me and he blames me for his death. Also, everything was a game to him.

"He cheated on me," I prefer to go with that reason which could be true for all I know.

"Suckks," she says and continues sipping her coffee.

Seconds later, a few guys enter the booth and I recognize one of them as--

"Leo?"

"Hey, Nat? What are you doing here?"

"Nothing just having coffee with my friend. Nina, this is Leo, my new neighbor, and Leo, this is Nina, a great friend of mine" I introduce both of them.

"Hi"

"Hi"

"I have some work to do. Bye," he says and goes back to what I presume are his friends.

"He's hot," Nina says.

"I know"

"He looks about our age, why doesn't go to our school?"

"I know, right?"

"Well, do you want him to come?"

"To our school?"

"Yes, where else?"

"Maybe?"

"I smell something fishy--"

"Shut up," I say and we both start laughing.

Leo looks at us and just smiles.
