Chapter 44

Saad's pov:

I woke up choking, unable to breath. Nor could I see anything, everything was dark and it seemed like someone was pushing something on me, on my face. I struggled to free myself, to move my head around but couldn't do that. My mind was hazy, my breath was getting shorter. I moved my hands around, trying to push the thing which was being pushed on my face.

"Help! Someone came into my room. It's an intruder. Help!" A voice shouted, making me confused. Ya Allah! Not again! Furious, before she could shout more, I covered her mouth with my hand. Holding her with the other hand, I rolled us around and the pillow loosened, giving me space to finally breath. I moved my head back and tried taking deep breaths. Squeezing my eyes shut, I tried to calm my racing heart beat.

Not removing my hand from her face, I turned on the bedside lamp. Her eyes snapped to look at me as I glared at her furiously. Her hairs devilished as she struggled to free herself from my grip before stilling completely when she saw me. Her chocolate brown eyes were wide, still in shock. Her lips were slightly parted under my hand as she stared at me. She looked so scared that for a moment I just felt like...

What? No, I should be concentrating on the matter at hand, not thinking about how beautiful she was looking. She frowned as she saw me. Forget about her beauty, was this girl for real? Does she not remember me?

"This is the second time within twenty four hours that you deemed me as a kidnapper or an intruder. Do I look like one or are you just trying to get on my nerves? Or better, you had a memory loss and can't actually remember me?" Taking a deep breath and clenching my jaw I uttered furiously as I removed my hand and sat up.

"Oh, so it wasn't actually a dream." That was all she could get out in a low voice.

My gaze snapped to her again as I continued to glare at her furiously. "Are you serious right now?" I asked her through clenched jaw. I couldn't even believe that girl! Ya Allah, give me patience to deal with that woman! I prayed internally.

I was sleepy after fajr but couldn't sleep well. I kept waking up every once in a while, scared of the girl sleeping beside me. I didn't trust her. She had already tried to kill me and I couldn't take the risk again.

Finally after tossing and turning for a while, and managing to get half sleep, I decided it's just better to stay awake. I could sleep early at night. Getting freshened up, I searched for my clothes. They were in my bag, it must have been somewhere around here. After Isha yesterday, I went to my hotel room with bhai and brought our stuff here after checking out from that hotel.

Frowning, I thought about where I must have left it yesterday. I found it on the floor beside the couch, leaning on it. Grabbing it, I was about to stand up when my eyes caught something. It was a gift bag kept beside the table, behind the couch.

Squinting my eyes at it, I grabbed it before standing up and placing it on the table. I took a peek in it and immediately the sweet aroma of the cake hit my nose, making me realise how hungry I was. My stomach growled, as if sensing that I found something to quench its hunger. Hoping it didn't belong to anyone, I sat on the couch comfortably, crossing one leg over the other, before opening the box and taking a big piece out of it.

I devoured it without any care before realising we still had some cake left and I could share it with others too. I would have finished it myself but I still had to do breakfast and I didn't want to skip it which might raise questions from others.

Keeping aside the box, I took out my clothes before heading to have a long relaxing shower.

"Bhai can I get some more?" Alayna asked, making a cute face.

"No, you already have one piece. And you have been having lots of sweets since we came here." I replied sternly. She pouted before folding her arms and looking away angrily.

"Bhaijaan, Can I get some more?" This time it was Amira.

Smiling slightly, I nodded. "Yeah sure. Here you go." She extended her plate and I kept a piece on her plate. Giggling, she peeked at me from under her lashes before nudging Alayna. I raised my brow, what was happening here?

"Look, I got this cake for both of us." Amira whispered, making me glare at her.

Before I could protest, aunty interrupted. "Kya mujhe bhi thoda mil sakta hai?"

(Can I get some too?)

"Oh, jee aunty. Here you go." I extended her a new plate which she took with a smile. I returned the gesture. I saw, horrified, as she made her way to Alayna and handed her the plate. Alayna smiled brightly before showing me her tongue. It seemed like everyone was going to oppose me for her.

(Yeah sure)

"Let her enjoy Saad. It isn't everyday that you get to have so many sweets." She told me as she ran her hand through Alayna's hair, a small smile playing on her lips as she gazed at them.

"But she has a cavity!" I tried to protest but of course, it was in vain.

"Oh it's okay, almost every kid has it. It's not something to fret over." She waved my protest off like a speck of dust, leaving me tongue tied. "And where did you get this cake from anyways?" She looked up at me questioningly.

"I found it in your daughter's room." I replied nonchalantly.

She looked stunned for a moment before muttering something under her breath. "All the best." Composing herself, she told me with an extra sweet smile, making me confused.

"Ammi baithiye na." Before I could ask her anything, Amira pulled at her hand, making her bend down.

(Sit down.)

"Kaha baithu mai?" She asked her amused, making her smile sheepishly.

(Where should I sit?)

"Accha ye lein." She extended her spoon towards her mom, making aunty smile as she ate from her hands.

(Okay, take this.)

"Mere bhi haath se." Alayna added and I saw her extending her hand. I smiled at their little moment and saw bhai bhabi coming here.

(From my hands too.)

"Assalamualikum everyone." Bhabi greeted cheerfully while taking a seat. Bhai sat beside her.

"Walikumussalam." We replied, turning our attention to them.

"Kya ho raha hai hamare bina?" Bhai inquired teasingly.

(What is happening here without us?)

"You guys are enjoying without us?" Bhabi added, making a sad face.

"Nahi bhabi, aapke liye bhi cake hai." Alayna replied quickly as she pointed to the box kept in front of me.

(No, there is cake for you too.)

"Accha, sirf apni bhabi ke liye hai, mere liye nahi?" Bhai teased, looking at her sadly. Fake sadness. Thank God I was not involved in any such thing!

(Oh, there is cake only for your sister-in-law and not your brother?)

"Aapke liye bhi hai naa." Amira replied with a giggle.

(There is cake for you too.)

"Accha Saad, can you please go and turn off Atifa's alarm? We don't want her to wake up early." Bhabi requested, making me confused. Why? And why this special treatment to her?

(Oh yeah)

I wanted to question but keeping in mind the fact that her mom was standing right here, I decided against it. "Jee theek hai." Nodding my head, I stood up before making my way upstairs.

(Okay.)

I entered the room to see the sun rays fighting to get through the heavy curtains. A light streak of ray here and there illuminated the room, giving it a light golden glow. Making my way towards her side of the bed, I realised I was just in time. The shrill tone of the alarm had just started ringing, startling me, and I quickly turned it off, thankful that she didn't wake up. I didn't want to be a victim of bhabi.

My eyes flickered in her direction and my gaze stopped on her innocent face. Her features glowed lightly, making her look like an angel. Just like yesterday. The difference was just that she looked even more real today. I wonder how could she manage to look so innocent in her sleep because in reality, she could kill me. And with this face of hers, she could get away with it too.

Her luscious curls were sprawled behind her on the pillow. They didn't seem too long, maybe reaching her mid-back. A few strands of her hair rested on her forehead, disturbing her sleep and trying to hide her face from my gaze. I saw my hand moving ahead to tuck them behind her ears, like they had a mind of their own. Moving them away from her face, my fingers lingered there for a while, - not exactly touching her face so as to not wake her up - before I quickly pulled it away.

Not wanting the repeat of yesterday's, or for that fact, today's incident, I quickly shook myself out of my thoughts before moving away from her. It would be better if I stayed away from her.
