Doubt Brings About A Chasm

Two years later, Helen moved into a bigger apartment. She was always so busy that she never had time to hang out with Laura.

Laura being fed up with Helen's work and attitude one day approached her_

"come on girl, take a break. I work too but i know when to relax and you are exaggerating. I am bored with this new new attitude of yours so this weekend we are going out and I won't take no for an answer nor excuses"

On Saturday they went outing and as Helen drove, she remembered something_

"hey Laura, I have an old friend around this neighborhood. What if we go and visit him, what do you think?"

"Alright then, but in one condition"

"Which?"

"I hope he's not as boring as you?"

"Girl like seriously? So now I'm boring huh?"

"Of course you are. All you talk about is work, work, work. Nothing interesting or funny!"

"Wow!! That means I'm really boring, but not to worry, you will enjoy Ken's company"

"I hope so"

Helen pulled over_ "This is Ken's house. Are you coming or not?"

"Sure I am"

Ken was happy and surprised seeing Helen after a long time_

"Helen? So you still know my house?"

"Yeah I do! unlike you who has forgotten about mine"

"Common Helen, don't talk like that. I lost your number that's why I never called"

"You always have excuses. Tell me that you lost my address too"

"Oh no, she will never stop"

"Hey guys, I am here!"

"Oh, so sorry Laura. Ken, meet my best friend Laura_ Laura, meet my crazy friend Ken"

"Come on Helen, don't make your friend have a bad impression of me. Laura you are beautiful, nice meeting you. Please don't listen to Helen"

"Sure! Nice meeting you too Ken"

As they discussed, made jokes and laughed, the bell rang and it was Ken's friend_

"Girls meet Mike. Mike, meet Laura and Helen"

"Ken be careful, why did you call Laura's name before mine? I just introduced her to you, I hope you are not....."

"Hey Helen, you are giving Laura a bad image of me"

"Relax Ken, don't mind my friend Helen. She's always good at teasing others. I must tell, coming here was a good idea because Helen was so boring and all she could talk about was work but Mike with you around, the atmosphere is lively"

"Oh no, here she comes again"

"Thank you for telling me this Laura, meaning I am Helen's catalyst"

"Yes Ken, you can say that again. When next she gets so boring, I will drag her to your place"

"Mike, why the silence? Are you the neutral one? Don't tell me you won't pity and side with me. Look, they are gagging up against me"

"Ken and Laura, stop accusing Helen, its not fair"

Hours of fun and discussion was over so Ken whispered to Helen_ " I think I like your friend. Can I have a private chat with her?"

"I knew it. You taking sides with her proves it all and now you are asking for my permission to court her? Hmm Ken, good luck"

"Helen, you will never change. Excuse me guys, I want to have a talk with this beautiful damsel. Laura, please can we?"

"Sure"

Helen and Mike were silently watching a movie the whole time and the living room was almost as quiet as a grave yard, except for the noise of the TV"

Mike finally decided to break the long silence_

"This lady will definitely fall for this guy's words, no doubt about it"

"No way! it can't happen. If she falls for ordinary words then she is not well"

Mike smiled at Helen's comment that lead to a discussion and they ended up exchanging numbers"

"Wow, Mike and Laura, we can see you guys are having fun. We could here you laugh from the balcony"

"Mike you see, Ken has come again with his exaggeration"

"No Helen, Ken is right"

"And my best friend is supporting him. Ken, what have you done to Laura?"

"Helen, forget about Ken and Laura, probably they are jealous for we had a great time than them"

It was late so Helen and Laura said goodbye and drove home.

A week letter, Mike began Texting Helen and slowly they became acquainted to each other and became friends. They enjoyed chatting with one another because they got along so well .

One Sunday, Mike invited Helen over and they spent time conversing; they enjoyed each other's company and laughed at each other's jokes. Mike began developing feelings for Helen and one day he finally opened up. Helen was scared to get into a new relationship even though she too had feelings for Mike_ she was scared to accept those feelings and admit she's in love. Mike noticed her fears and this got him a little upset in one of their conversations. This little quarrel made them ignore each other for two weeks_ no call nor text. Helen was the one at fault; she always checked her phone if Mike had messaged or called but none_

"What's happening to me? Am I really in love with him? Why do I always expect his calls or text? Why do i miss him and wish he could break the silence? No Helen, you can't repeat the same mistake of falling in love. But wait a second:0 mistake? you aren't making a mistake; remember you gave Kay a chance without loving him and you fell in love with him with time, that was the mistake you did; but it is not the case with Mike; you share the same feeling, you didn't have to make any effort to love him. Be careful girl, you may lose him with this repulsive attitude of yours. Think and decide like the mature girl that you are"

Helen's phone rang and woke her up from her day dream.

Two days passed and Helen decided to break the long silence with the text_ "Hello Mike, how are you?"

"Hi Helen, I am okay"

"Okay? then why the long silence? Did I hurt you in anyway?"

"Well if you want us to talk about it, come to my place tomorrow maybe after work"

The next day, Helen stopped by Mike's place on her way home and they sorted out their issue_

"Helen, i will ask you for the last time and if you say no, I will stop disturbing you and let you be. I love you, and I wish you be my girlfriend"

"Mike I am sorry for turning you around but the truth is, I too am madly in love with you. I thought I will ignore it but I can't because you have taken the best part of my thought and heart and i can't hold back anymore"

"So do i take that for a yes?"

"Of course"

Mike was everything Helen needed in a man; he was caring, loving, romantic, good looking, name it! They were so in love and supported each other, made time for one another and made each other happy. At times, they had misunderstandings; spent weeks without talking and when they missed each other, one of them will break the silence and it was always Mike.

Seven months Later, Helen had to go for a five months business trip. Actually, she had the choice of going or appointing someone else which she wanted to do but Mike encouraged her to go_

"Sweetheart this business trip will make you a whole new person. You will learn new things and you might even get a promotion if it turns out to be successful which i know it will. I know you will miss me and I will miss you too but I can't let you throw away your dreams and this great opportunity, if i don't support you then who will? So my Princess, don't be sad okay"

"Having an Angel like you, tell me how can i be sad? Thank you so much for being a great support. I love you"

"Love you too dearie"

Weeks later, Helen travelled and she could only keep her relationship going through communication which she did as well as Mike. They talked via calls and messages and not even distance could stand as a barrier to their love. Oh so they thought!"

By and by and this love birds began having clueless misunderstandings_ Due to Helen's busy schedule, there was no time to spend talking for hours with her lover so she explained everything to Mike who seemed to understand in the beginning but later made a strange story out of it. He thought Helen was cheating on him since she was a fair and well mannered girl that every man will want_ that guys will be after her and she will be unable to resist their advances for long and this made him insecure, greatly affecting his trust for Helen.

One day, Helen texted him in an happy mood thinking she will have a great chat with him since she had less work to do but Mike's response was strange and rude.

"Honey what's the problem? Are you okay?"

"How can i be okay when you have no time for me lately and pretend its all about your work? Who knows if it is only your work keeping you busy or some other guy?"

"I beg your pardon?"

"Oh yes, you heard me right and stop pretending"

"You don't trust me anymore and you say you love me? What love when there's no trust? You now think I am cheating on you? Mike, I didn't expect you to say such or even think about such, you disappoint me"

"You know what? Good night. You can go spend time with your lovers there"

This attitude of Mike made Helen so angry and restless. After days of silence, Mike ended up admitting his wrong and apologized to Helen. Everything seemed okay but Mike hadn't gotten rid of the doubt and this made him feel inferior. This brought up another serious aguement and again they ignored each other for Months.

During this period, both thought they will find a better replacement. Helen got a new guy; he was good looking, rich loving and caring. Helen learned to love Angelo but he had this proud attitude that caused him to look down on others, talk too much and act rude. This attitude of him made them constantly have problems but Helen persevered, thinking one day he will change because no one is perfect but no, he got worst. Each time Angelo misbehave, he will return with apologies, gift and money to flatter Helen who soon understood his tricks. She tried tolerating Angelo's nasty behavior but each time his pride made things worst. Surprised, Helen discovered another part of Angelo that made her take a discission on breaking up; she discovered he was a jerk and flirt who went about deceiving girls, giving them fake promises.

Mike on his own part met a beautiful lady by name Flora; she was loving, caring, kind and gentle. They began dating and Mike loved Flora so much. Their relationship was peaceful and this made Mike love her more. The relationship was so sweet until one day_ Mike discovered Flora wasn't the sweet lady he thought she was. This young lady was unfaithful, seeing another guy. Mike decided to confront and ask her about it_ "Yes Mike, it is true. I am seeing another man but I am not ashamed, neither am i sorry about it. The truth is that, i don't love you anymore, you are too boring for my liking and I want to break up with you"

Her words break Mike, he was perplexed and devastated. It took him some time to recover but he got passed it.

Helen one day decided to break the long, long silence by texting Mike. Well, she didn't text him because she wanted to get back with him, she texted because he had an important message from Mike's company since they tried severally to get to him but to no avail and Helen's number was the emergency number he put in his files.

Mike was surprised seeing a text from Helen and all their lovely memory came back like a quick flash of light. Helen's intension was to deliver the message and stop texting but Mike wanted to talk some more. They had some catch up conversation but this time like ordinary friends. Mike was ashamed and scared, he thought of how he's going to tell Helen he still love her and what will be her reaction? They went on as friends for three months and one day, Mike decided to burst out his feeling_

"Helen, I can't hold back anymore, i am suffocating. The truth is, i still love you so very much"

"Mike if you knew what i have been up to, your feelings will disappear"

"Trust me Helen, it won't. Tell me"

"Mike, I got into a relationship when we stopped talking to each other but it didn't turn out well"

"Helen, you see why i say we are like two sides on ONE coin? I too got into a relationship which ended up hurting me"

"Wow!!!! what a coincidence"

"Let's just forget about the past and build a great future, what do you think?

"You're right"
