Chapter 48

Margret giggled to herself, she was thinking of her plan. She stood up and yelled from her room, "Happy Birthday Scarlett!" Anastasia popped her head from the bathroom. She took out the brush from her mouth and with a mouth full of foam, she said "what?"

Scarlett jumped from the sudden 'happy birthday' and smiled "thank you, Margie!"

"Wait, it's Scarlett's birthday!?!" Anastasia inaudibly gasped and went on with rinsing her mouth.

When she came out of the bathroom, she saw her brother and her best friend having something behind their backs, coupons. Her brother gave them first to Scarlett. This! Is! BETRAYAL!

Hunter had probably been here like for 3 months or something, yet he's-he's- he knows when Scarlett's birthday was and he never told her! Including Margret! These two have betrayed her so badly!

Anastasia scratched her head and smiled guilty "oh, happy birthday Scarlett." The short friend smiled "thanks. Even though it's my birthday, I got school. Bye~!" They all waved at Scarlett and she shut the door.

Anastasia glared at the couple in the room. They kept giggling and whispered among each other. "Why didn't you tell me today's Scarlett's birthday?" They kept giggling and ignored her. Margret whispered something in her boyfriend's ear and he nodded. He patted his sister's shoulder and said "you're on your own now." They walked past her and left, leaving Anastasia confused.

What was that supposed to mean?

------------

She found out what her brother meant. Him and his girlfriend were going on a date again, she had to handle the cafe by herself. They abandoned her. Meh, typical Tuesday.

Anastasia had thought long and hard about what to give Scarlett as a birthday gift. Mortals give their loved or close ones gifts that can be simple, in another place or even things like a cruise ship, or a yacht. She was broke, she can't afford that, right now.

She thought they'll go to a place for amusement. After searching the nearest places on Margret's tab (she didn't put a password on it). This one place caught her attention. She didn't go there, probably Scarlett had gone here. Yup, birthday gift confirmed.

-------------

Scarlett was in a happy mood. There was no reason, she was just happy.

Manchu had, surprisingly, gave her cookies. They were not so close, but she accepted them. Who would not accept free food?

Michael had gave her a bunch of bucks he saved. She didn't want it but he insisted. He told her forgot her birthday was today. Weird, but okay.

Margret and her boyfriend gave her coupons. More weird but okay.

Anastasia didn't give her anything, it was okay. When Anastasia found out it was Scarlett's birthday, her expression said clueless, shook, kind of betrayed and guilty. Nobody told her nor she asked them. So it was okay.

When she reached the cafe, a sign was hung: sorry! We're closed today! She tried to open the doors. It was locked, no sign of anyone inside.

She bit her lip and furrowed her eyebrows, debating if she should call them or not.

She heard a glass bottle break at the very end. Like at dumpster behind the cafe. She looked around to see if someone heard that too. People around her showed no reaction and went on with their business.

Scarlett took a deep breathe frustratedly before going through the small gap between the buildings.

When she was at the end and about to turn to the dumpster, someone's arm grabbed her.

Scarlett was going to crack the person's nose but relaxed. The person was Anastasia.

Anastasia's eyes unexpectedly glowed in the dark, she furrowed her eyebrows at Scarlett. "What are you doing here?"

Scarlett sweated a little and made up a lie. "Nothing. Just checking if you were here." Anastasia didn't buy it. She rolled her eyes and grabbed Scarlett's hand to lead her out. "Why would I be here?" She paused and continued. "We're going somewhere by the way."

Scarlett scrunched her face in confusion. "Huh? Where?" Anastasia side glanced at her and smiled. "Birthday gift."
