Chapter 50

*Sponge Bob narrator* a few weeks later.

Scarlett took a deep breath and opened the door of the storage room. When she did, Anastasia and Margret surrounded her. "So what were you going to announce before?"

"I'm graduating high school in a few months." Anastasia nodded. "That's a good thing, what are you going to do next?"

"I'll have applied for college at the start of the year," Margret spoke next. "Where will the college be then?" What Scarlett said next was shocking for them, but normal for us. "In another city." Then came dead silence (I like drama, but I can't make drama). Even though the cafe was full, they felt it was dead silent.

Anastasia broke the silence by coughing. (we need to yeet them into quarantine) "That's good! Good for you! So what are you going to do then?" She patted Scarlett on the shoulder, making her relax. They baffled Scarlett, she thought they'll be mad or something. She felt a small pang when Anastasia said it was good for her. Whatever, she thought.

"Probably surgery." Margret laughed and made a terrible joke. "I guess knowing about the human body so well, you could pass all the exams." Anastasia and Scarlett cringed at her.

"Were you thinking that as a joke?" Margret shrugged as if saying 'duh!'. "You just stated a fact!" Scarlett waved her hands, disagreeing with Anastasia. "No. It won't be that easy. If I get grades high enough, I'll be able to enroll in the best ones."

Margret and Anastasia gasped. Margret patted Scarlett's head and hugged her. "Honey, you get the highest grades. You'll be able to get into the best colleges. If they reject you, we'll murder the guy who has the college under his name."

Scarlett laughed. "Thanks. Don't murder him." Anastasia tapped her chin multiple times. "Yes, you're right. Let's not just murder him. Let's make him beg for his life then sell his soul to Satan." Scarlett rolled her eyes and went on with studying.

Scarlett had a real-life cheat that I seriously want. She had a fast reading speed and once she read a book, it would imprint itself in her mind. But she read it again when she was bored or the memory was hazy.

Scarlett was reading one of her science books when she heard a tapping noise from the side of the table. She looked up and saw Daphne sitting down.

Daphne smiled. "Heard you're going to college in a few months." Scarlett returned the smile. "Yes, ma'am. I applied for it at the start of my senior year."

"Don't call me ma'am, you could call me grandma or aunty would be nice." Scarlett nodded and went back to reading. She heard Daphne sigh when she was in the last paragraph of the chapter. "Would you like me to pay for your fees for college?"

"Pardon?"

"Do you want to have that scholarship from the toothpaste company?" Scarlett bit her tongue. She had won it but never said yes or no to them. "But grandma I wou-" Daphne put her hand up in mid-sentence. "I'm having billions in my account, even if you don't believe. It will not run out easily. So I would really like to pay for your fees."

Scarlett bit the inside of her cheek while thinking. It would feel like using grandma for money. "But I would feel like using you for money." Daphne kept that same smile reassuring her. "It's okay. I want to do something good."

Scarlett furrowed her eyebrows at her sentence. Grandma was a good person. Why was she talking as if she was a villain? After a few minutes of negotiations, Scarlett sighed in defeat. "Okay. But when I get my first salary for any job, I'll pay you back! Deal?"

Daphne gave her the same toothy grin. "Then it's settled!"
