The night had been amazing so far and every wolf seemed to be enjoying themselves. We all gathered to watch the sunset. Once the sun had disappeared from the horizon everyone else shifted and headed to the woods. Logan kissed my temple "Once you shift you'll be able to join the pack on your first run. I'll be waiting for you." he whispered before taking off and shifting into his large grey wolf, which now seemed about average compared to the other two I had seen. Looking at them all the majority were grey wolves with a couple of brown ones here and there. Some were even a mix of the two to an extent. I watched as they ran deeper into the woods howling.
I bathed in the moonlight waiting for the changes to start happening. I stood there for an hour and nothing. Melly had said my first shift may take hours once it started, but nothing had happened yet. I reached out to Cinder hoping she would know. I was taken aback when she growled [Not yet.] was all she cared to say. What does she mean not yet? Then when? Was I not going to shift today? I looked up at the moon confused. I finally sat in the grass dejected as small tears ran down my cheeks. After a few hours, a few of the wolves came to check on me. They had shifted back to their human forms and were wearing different clothes. I looked up and saw Melly. I just shook my head upset "Awe sweety it's okay. It happens to some wolves. You just need a little more time but it will happen soon I promise." she comforted me. I sighed "But everyone was so excited... I feel like a failure." I whispered.
I felt a pair of strong arms pick me up. I looked up and saw Logan was carrying me. He kissed the top of my head "Let's get you to bed angel, you're probably exhausted." he commented. I was indeed tired. I was too tired to even change myself out of my dress. Logan pulled out some pajama bottoms and a t-shirt for me to change in. When I didn't make a move to change he began doing it himself. I became irritated "Logan I'm not a pup I can change myself!" I snapped. Logan frowned "I'm just trying to help Eva." he scolded me. I glared at him ripping the shirt from his hands and putting it on "There happy?" I asked sarcastically. It didn't feel like I was the one talking. I jumped when he snarled at me his eyes glowing a golden yellow "You will not bark at me she-wolf." he ordered.
I whimpered "I'm sorry I don't know what came over me." I murmured [I did.] confessed Cinder. Logan's facial features quickly softened "I'm sorry Eva I would never talk to you like that. My wolf just kind of jumped out when yours did." he explained. I nodded "Let's just go to bed okay?" I suggested. Logan nodded and went to shower and change as I curled up in bed. The last thing that came to my mind was those beautiful dark blue eyes. That night I dreamed of wolves playing in the clearing, yet when I tried to focus on them they became blurry.
When I woke up Logan was still sound asleep in the bed next to me. I decided it was best not to wake him, he had been having a rough time lately. I was too lazy this morning so I kept my shirt and changed into some sweatpants. I made my way downstairs to the kitchen where I could hear the ever-familiar sound of Melly giggling. I closed my eyes jokingly as I walked in "You guys better be dressed other people eat here you know." I teased. I could hear Danny's deep laugh. I could also tell that Melly was most likely blushing from her silence. I opened my eyes to see them snuggled together as little Liam was eating his breakfast. I made my way over to the fridge for some orange juice just as Danny spoke "Hey you doing okay Eva? I know you didn't shift last night." he asked like the concerned big brother he is. I nodded "Doing better this morning besides Melly told me I'm not the first wolf it's happened to so it might just take me a little longer is all." I answered as I poured myself a glass of juice.
I chugged it back then looked at Melly "You, me shopping in town for dresses today." I told her. She nodded before preceding to give Danny her best puppy dog eyes. Danny groaned "Goddess damn it, woman, just take my fucking wallet, you're too beautiful to say no to here." he joked as he shoved his wallet into her hands. We laughed as he picked up Liam "Alright little man guess it's a boy's day for us." he told him as they left. Melly watched them leave with so much love in her eyes. I bit my lip "Hey Melly this might be too nosy but why aren't you with Liam's father?" I asked my curiosity getting the better of me.
Melly gave me a sad smile "His dad was my best friend, also Liam isn't mine. He calls me mama but his mom died in that arena. Liam's dad kept me safe until he lost. In return, I've taken Liam as my own." she admitted. I suddenly felt bad for asking. We both took a deep breath at the same time and then headed out to Danny's car. Melly was driving since I didn't have my license and wasn't risking messing Danny's car. I watched out the window as we drove into town.
We had maybe a forty-five-minute drive until we arrived at Melly's chosen boutique. We went inside looking at all our options. We took our time trying on different dresses for fun. Melly had fallen in love with a wine red dress that hugged her body beautifully yet was also very classy. This woman could make anything work I swear. I was still looking around when it jumped out to me. Yes, this was the perfect dress for the ball.
